Well we say goodbye to flaming June and hello to July and as usual Ecton willbe alive with events for you to enjoy.

Firstly the great news that during the Summer period, the Three Horseshoeswill be open early evening at 5.30pm during the week on Wednesdays,Thursdays and on Fridays (when its happy hour from 5.30pm to 7.30pm)

Its also the return of the School Fete on Friday 6th July at 3.30pm, which wasa great success last year, and even more fun things planned this year. TheVillage BBQ on Saturday 21st July promises to be an afternoon of fun andfood and no football!

Just a note to all those who attended and supported the Summer Concert youhelped to raise £1042 - Well done everyone!

Finally, I have had quite a few readers contacting me and complaining about“impolite parking” in both the High Street and West Street. Please can I remind readers that the pavements are for pedestrians and youshould not park on them, blocking access for pushchair's and making lifemore difficult for some of our less mobile residents. There have also been afew instances of people blocking drive ways so please can I ask that whenyou park your car, make sure you are doing so with respect to your fellowvillagers.

Enjoy a peaceful summer - Wendy

Rector’s Letter July 2018

We have been fortunate this year to be able to watch as a pair ofblackbirds built their nest in the honeysuckle just by our patio doors.Once built, and it was amazing the things that went in there, we weretreated, a few weeks later, to the frenzied activity of both parents as theykept up the daily round of feeding their young babies. The mother defended her nest with a determination that had to be seen to bebelieved, seeing off all other birds that dared to venture near the entrance of herwell hidden home.

We think she had two broods but all is quiet now and we trust that the babies havesafely flown, and the parents are having a well-deserved rest.Having watched as the parent blackbirds fed, nurtured and protected their young Iwas reminded of the times that birds are mentioned in the Bible, with them oftenbeing used as an illustration of God’s care for his people:

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the groundoutside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Sodon’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows (Matthew 10:29-31).In the Gospel of Luke Jesus is recorded as saying he often longed to gather his peopletogether, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings (Luke 13:34) an image whichreminds us of the protection God offers to those who turn to him. Although in Jesus’day, as today, many rejected that protection, preferring to fend for themselves. And in the Old Testament the image of an eagle is often used to illustrate God’sprotection with a parent bird flying underneath the fledgling in order to catch it,should it fall (Deuteronomy 32:11).

These are just a few of the images found in the Bible which tell us of God’s love andprotection for us. They have been a help and comfort to me in the past and I hopethey may be a help and comfort to you also.

Yours in Christ,Revd. Jackie Buck

Summer Concert Saturday 2nd June in the Church.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed in any wayto enable us to have yet another successful fundraisingevening here in Ecton. Experiencing fabulous Summersunshine on the day we were able to embrace fully thewonderful hospitality that Ecton is renown for.

Andrew Ingram gave an uplifting recital inthe first half including Bach and Purcellfavourites from his classical repertoire aswell as a selection of popular music froma former life as a keyboard player with severalwell known groups in the 60/70s. Andrew alsocontributed by bringing a cask of his own real alewhich helped the party go with a swing!

Wellingborough Community Gospel Choir entertained us in the second halfand Gareth the charismatic choir master managed to get everyone in theaudience on their feet and singing. The choir is developing wonderfully welland at full strength has over one hundred members who regularly giveconcerts which help local churches and communities raise funds for theirprojects. We meet in the chapel at Wellingborough School each Tuesdayevening at 7.30pm in school term time. Do let me know if you would like tojoin with the other eight people who are regular members in Ecton. Noauditions, no reading music. Just fun and laughter for a couple of hours, what's not to like!

There are so many people to thank. You know who you are, bar tenders, flower arrangers, PA system setter uppers, shortbread makers, raffle prizegivers and a couple of very generous donation providers from outside ourvillage now, but who are always ready to support our village and it'sbeautiful church.

Together we were able to raise £1042 whilst enjoying a great evening.Brilliant!Sheila Ingram
