VCAL Projects

O ver recent months Jack Trewick, LachlanTrewick, Dylan McWhinney and Ryan Hall from the Year 11 VCAL class have been constructing a cubbyhouse for

OLSH (Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) Primary School in Elmore. On Tuesday, Daniel Carmody, Shara Edwards and Julia Rosaia from OLSH travelled to Rochester Secondary College to help the VCAL students paint the completed cubbyhouse ready for delivery to its new home in Elmore. Well done to all of the students that have been involved in this worthwhile pro-ject.

A group of VCAL students have taken on the task of cleaning and painting the large containers which have been placed adjacent to the basketball courts

here at the College. Tekyra Shead, Jasmine McDonald and Karlee Newmann are pictured below preparing the contain-ers for their first coat of paint. These containers have been delivered to the school in preparation for the massive school reno-vation. Mr Cresswell VCAL Teacher

Art Department

T he College Art Department is starting to prepare for our shift into temporary art rooms while the new building project goes ahead towards the end of the

year. Packing up and sorting out our resources and equip-ment is a major job. We have many pieces of student art and design work and visual journals and folios from last year and last semester which have not been collected by students. Artwork and folios etc. have been placed on tables outside the art-rooms for collection.

Congratulations Ella Dobell

E lla Dobell who played in and won the inaugural Un-der 15's BFNL Football Grand Final last weekend. We are very proud of her and the team. A big thank you

to Rochester sporting staff for supporting Ella since starting at Rochester Secondary College. Julie and Damien Dobell

Cows Create Careers

A s part of our Investigative Science class Cows Create Careers Project we were lucky enough to have been able to look after two calves for three weeks. The calves were generously leant to us by Corey Mitchell. During our time working on the Cows Create Careers project we participated in a farm visit, a trip to the Murray Goulburn store, looking after

the calves needs and a visit from a Fonterra employee. As well as working on farm related projects in groups we also entered the Cows Create Careers competition. The reason behind learning about farms is to show us all the different career options in the industry. We have learnt a lot about farming and the dairy industry especially taking care of calves.

Two calves came to school for three weeks for Cows Create Careers. Our class had to feed them twice a day and had to record how much they ate and weighed. Our class named them Barbara and Snoop Cow. Our class went to a farm and looked at how they feed their calves and looked at their dairy.

In Year 10 Investigative Science we have been studying ‘Cows Create Careers’. We were lucky enough to be given two calves Snoop Coww and Barbara, which we looked after for three weeks. There were many things involved in looking after the calves which included making up milk and feeding them two times a day, weighing them, keeping an eye on them and making sure their pens were kept clean. During this time, we had an excursion to a dairy farm and had a man from Fonterra come and talk to us. We all really enjoyed having the calves here and needing to feed them. Snoop Coww Studios

Pre Driver Ed

O ver the last two weeks most of our Year 11's have participated in R.O.A.D.E.C's two day pre-driver education pro-gram. Our students have learnt about handling a car under different emergency situations, road awareness, parallel parking, accident prevention amongst other things. From all reports it has been a very valuable program which eve-

ryone has enjoyed participating in. Thanks must go to the Elmore Charity Ball Committee and the Parents Club for their generous donations that helped keep the costs down for our students. Lauren Pellegrino Pre Driver Ed Organiser

On show will be countless items of sporting memorabilia collected by John Forbes over 24 years. The collection is one of Australia’s finest.

Come and see Adam Gilchrist’s wicket keeping gloves, Dennis Lillee’s famous aluminium bat and Russian athlete Sergei Bubka’s tracksuit.

Local sporting heroes David Williams and Sharelle McMahon have items on show while Rochester’s John Williams played 161 games for Essendon and three years with Collingwood as well as being named All Australian. His jumpers and blazers are part of the collection.

A fifteen minute video is also part of the exhibition.

A small entry fee will go towards the estab-lishment of the permanent Rochester Sports Museum in 2018.
