Allow me to share withyou a "glory sighting." Ifyou haven't heard thisterm before, it simply is atestimony to howsomeone has seen God atwork in the events ofeveryday life. On Mondayof this week, Nancy sentan email to thecongregation regarding aperson in the communitywho was struggling withthe heat and in need of awindow unit airconditioner. Within 24hours of that email, an airconditioner (brand new,not used!) was sitting inthe church. A very shorttime after that, the airconditioner was at theperson's home andhelping to bring relief

from the summer heat. Iwas blessed to watch it all

On Sunday, September 14, join us in welcoming David Carroll, ChiefOperations O cer for Gospel For Asia. David will be sharing with usthe mission and e orts of this organization during both worshipservices that morning. We wanted to let you get to know a littlemore about David himself and how he began with Gospel For Asia: When David and his wife, Debi, rst heard of the ministry of Gospel

for Asia, they immediately began sponsoring a national missionaryand praying for the ministry. In January 1992, after learning of the need for sta in GFAs homeo ce, David and Debi sold their CPA practice and moved their familyto Carrollton, Texas, to serve with GFA.David works in several capacities, but his primary responsibility is forthe overall operation of the U.S. headquarters. He also presents thework and vision of GFA to churches and ministries across America.David has been to the mission elds of Asia and has seen rst handthe work of GFAs national missionaries. His heart is truly brokenwith the reality that half of the world has not yet heard the preciousname of Jesus Christ. Thats why he passionately challenges Godspeople in America to become radically involved in winning Asia toChrist.I have seen the work God is doing in the lives of thousands of hope-lessly lost and perishing people, David reports. I was gripped bythe faces of the people whose eyes told of their su ering and des-pair. I can still see them clearly in my mind, making their way to localtemples to worship hideous and hateful idols. Most of these peoplehave never heard of Jesus love or forgiveness. My heart burns within me to send them the Gospel and allow themto experience the joy of knowing Jesus.

come together, clearly convinced that God was at work to meet a needthrough His people called the Church.

Why do I consider this an occasion for praise? First, because someone not only saw the need, butwent the next step in opening the doors of possibility in hope that the need would be met. Oftenthe needs of those around us are obvious, yet we may not actually give thought to the possibilityof doing something about those needs. God is the author of endless possibilities. We just need tokeep those doors open to see how God might work. Secondly, I consider this an occasion forpraise because someone actually took the opportunity to respond. In our society we are inundatedwith opportunities to help worthy causes. The term "compassion fatigue" is a fairly new concept inour culture. So often we respond to invitations to help with the attitude of "I just can't help witheverything." While for most of us that is true, it is also true that from time to time God puts anopportunity right in front of us. In this case, someone essentially said, "I can help with that." And,might I say, they helped with generosity. Lastly, I am quick to give praise because I had theprivilege of seeing the joy in the person receiving the air conditioner. I'm not much of a cryingperson, but I feel a tear while writing this as I remember the smile I saw (and the big hug that Ireceived) in response to this compassionate act. When a life is touched in such a basic yetmeaningful way, how could we not o er praise for the way God is at work through ourcongregation?

In Matthew 14 we read the familiar account of the Feeding of the Five Thousand. There is a verse inthat account that I have long considered a powerful reminder of God's purpose for the Church.Seeing the large crowd and perceiving the great need, the disciples wanted Jesus to dismiss thecrowd so they could go fend for themselves regarding their evening meal. Jesus' response in verse16 was clear: "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." You give them something

to eat. I'm sure we can appreciate how the disciples felt in response to that statement. There is somuch need; how can we make a di erence? It may be true that we cannot solve every problem inour community. We may not be able to meet every need. But let us be reminded that God is asource of abundant resources. Because of that truth, we can do much more than we often thinkwe can do. So continue to think extravagantly about how we are called to serve our community. There are so many more glory sightings yet to come. Let's keep the doors of possibility open.

    Grace and peace,

    Pastor Dave=
