It has been determined that approximately 95% of Robeson County residents are eligible to participate in this program.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR FREE OF CHARGE SPAY & NEUTER – Proof of income and/or identifications that you are on any of the following assistance programs: HEALTH CHOICE; MEDICAID; FOOD STAMPS; WORK FIRST; SPECIAL ASSISTANCE.

Sasha (2004)

Locked in a bathroom with a large iguana Paws were pinned down so the iguana could eat her House of Horror - Baby sat on the floor chewing on

feces When the bathroom door was opened, the iguana

shot out and escaped through a window Sasha was hairless, emaciated, weak, and weighed

only 1.5 lbs After 9 months of rehabilitation, placed with her

forever family Iguana also found a new home and child

services intervened to care for the baby

Pal (2005)

Cold January morning found laying in a horse stall

Nearly frozen and very cold, thought to be dead

No top or bottom front teeth, canine teeth were each broken in half

Estimated to be 8-9 years old and had a severe case of heartworms

After 8 months of recovery, he was placed with a loving family

Dirt Road Seven (2005)

Seven kittens were left to die on the dirt road

They were being eaten alive by red fire ants

The ants had eaten the nipples off their bellies and had attacked their noses

Due to swelling it took a month before their sexes could be determined

After recovering and learning how to socialize, they all found good homes

Sarge (2006-passed in 2012)

Sarge (a purebred boxer) was found laying almost dead in a soy bean field

At only 32 pounds, bones and spine

protruded through his skin Estimated to be 3-5 years old and

Heartworm positive Single most expensive rescue ($1,300) Expenses were covered by private donors,

Thundering Paws, and the Robeson County Humane Society

After 11 months of treatment, rehabilitation and socializing, he got his forever family

Enjoyed a relaxed life and even got to travel to his family’s beach home

Leo and His Babies (2007)

Litter dumped with DAD (Leo) With no milk, he had to hunt to

feed him and seven babies After being rescued, he continued

to play and care for the babies Tried to place Leo three times, but

couldn’t adjust to new environments

Permanently lives with the Gables His son Milo is still available for

adoption

Honey Bear and Smiley (2008)

A malnourished female German shepherd started showing up in the field across from the Gable’s ranch

She came for months to eat, but wouldn’t allow the Gable’s to bring for home…then she stopped coming

A couple of months later she showed up for food again, this time with three puppies in tow

The next day there were only twopuppies, which she left before sheran off…never to be seen again

Didn’t take long for these two to find loving homes

The Peachy Grey and Black Kittens (2008)

Several kittens were spotted on the dirt road Although some had already been ran-over,

there four peachy gray kittens and four black kittens

Four days later one of the kittens had kittens All of the kittens were

placed in good homes Trevor recovered from

the stress of kitten birth

Roxanne (2008)

Purebred Main Coone Original owner paid $650 for her and got

her fixed, shots, and declawed Lacked breed knowledge

Resulted in bad behavior Was headed for the pound

Loving family drove fromGeorgia to adopt ‘Roxy’

Batman (2008)

Batman (a purebred Shitzu), less than a year old

A single mother of a mentally challenged teenage boy surrendered Batman

Son was abusing Batman and he had became very scared of people

Now lives happily with his sister (a Shitzu) and his new mom and dad

Rosemary (2008-passed in 2012)

Rosemary was a classic case of owner neglect and abuse

Dumped in the middle of winter Most of her teeth were gone or broken Had an embedded collar injury She was middle-aged, tested positive for

heartworms, and had cancer She went through heartworm treatment

but remained too weak for cancer treatment Due to the type of care she required, she

remained in our care until she passed in 2012

Boda and Red (2009)

Elderly gentleman moved out of a century old farmhouse acres behind the Gable’s place

Abandoned his two dogs when he left About a month later, a gorgeous purebred

German shepherd (Boda) and a handsome red hound (Red) started showing up looking for food

Covered in ticks and very thin, they were very friendly

After gaining weight and being treated for heartworms, they each went to live with new loving families

Sugar (2009) a.k.a. Wednesday

A very pregnant tree-walker waddled down the dirt road right before a storm

Within a week she gave birth to 11 puppies(nine survived)

Sugar and all her babies (5 girls and 4 boys) havebeen placed in their forever homes

Lady (2009)

Attacked by a dog Internal organs could be seen Ligaments and hip bones were bare After removing maggots from her

wound and treating her with medicineand antibiotics, the vet asked us forrehabilitation help

Eighteen months later, she was still recovering (gradually developed new layers of skin and fur)

Lady passed away in January 2011 due to a genetic defect in her bowels (not related to her injury).

Bordeaux Cats (2010-2012)

The Bordeaux shopping area Cat overpopulation problem

Removed 65 stray cats from a 1 mile radius 10 euthanized due to sickness12 placed on farms43 placed in homes

We use our humane trap, provide

medical attention, and work with socializing those that are adoptable

Buddy Buttercup (2013- 2014)

Oct 2013 - Rescued from dirt road; vetted, then placed in foster home. Escaped after 2 days

December 2014 - Lady found Buddy, took him to the vet who checked for a microchip. The woman called us and then adopted Buddy.

Two weeks later Buddy was reunited with the family that took care of him while missing (found via poster at apt complex. He’s now called Charlie. The lady who called us and originally adopted Buddy lives in the same apt complex and cat-sits for Buddy when needed.
