IN ST EDWARD CHAPELby Rev. Robin Hatzenbuehler, Chaplain

As I write this article there is a crispness in the air which I hope doesn’t abate! It’s fun to contemplate the fall weather and the new “goings on” at Trezevant in our Chapels.Next up is our October Spiritual Speaker, Professor Steve Haynes who is the Albert Bruce Curry Professor of Religious Studies at Rhodes College. He will be hosted by resident Bill Butler on Tuesday, October 2. I asked him to speak – as I have asked all this year’s speakers -- on a topic that inspires and “jazzes” him up. The title of his talk is “The Battle for Bon-hoeffer: Debating Discipleship in the Age of Trump.” Bonhoeffer is a faith hero of mine, so I am especially looking forward to this evening. Please come that evening at 7:15 – and bring a friend! The October Chaplain’s Class has a slight change in time to accommodate our next teacher’s schedule. It will be from 3:15 until 4:15 and begins Wednesday, October 3 in our Chapel and continues all month. The teach-er is Professor Steve McKenzie, Professor of Hebrew Scripture at Rhodes College. The class is “How to Read the Bible: History, Prophecy, Literature – Why Modern Readers Need to Know the Difference and What It Means for Faith Today.” It should be very interesting and educational – after all, Professor McKenzie literally wrote the book on that topic.DON’T FORGET: On the weekly chapel schedule, you will always be able to avail yourself of Guided Meditation on Wednesdays from 2:15 until 2:40 in our Chapel. The meditation is ably led by resident Spiritual Direc-tor, Linda Douty Mischke. Meditation is good for your mind, body, and soul – science can prove it -- and it is a wonderful spiritual practice.Last, but not least, now being held on Thursday afternoons at 3pm is the popular story time with Dina Smith. Held in the Gallery Parlor, different stories/books with spiritual interest are read by Dina and enjoyed by all. Need time with the Chaplain? The Rev. Julie and I are always glad to meet individually with you, so just give us a call. God’s blessings on each of you!!PS. Here's a Memorial Opportunity! We have a need in Little Chapel at the Allen Morgan Center for a donation that you might consider either as a memorial or as an honorarium. It is for two beautiful brass candlesticks with oil candles and brass candle lighter with wood handle. Please give me a call in my office at 251-9208 if you are interested. Many thanks!
