Tip sheet for staff – PebblePad Feedback Templates

PebblePad Feedback Templates

Feedback templates can be used in a PebblePad workspace to provide structure to feedback about submitted work,

and they can include rubrics.

Feedback templates are created in Pebble+ and added to the workspace through ATLAS. This document describes

how to create a feedback template with a rubric

how to add the feedback template to the workspace

how to mark using the feedback template

how to copy and share feedback templates

Further information can be found at PebblePad help at the following Custom Templates link:

https://help.pebblepad.com:443/helpfile.aspx?t=1&vn=5.0&v=16&tg=3bf540bf-f5a7-4714-a00e-bca93111676b&f=250

How to Create a Feedback Template containing a Rubric

1. Open PebblePad, either from the ‘Learning Portfolio’ Easy Login on your Staff Portal, from a link in a unit, or

via this link:

https://v3.pebblepad.com.au/login/ecu/

Your name

If you are ECU Staff and require support/training please contact Learning Technologies Support Officers, e: [email protected] | p: 6304 2255 2

2. On the PebblePad home page, click on the ‘burger’ menu at the top left.

3. Choose ‘Get creative/Portfolios and pages’.

4. Then choose ‘Create a template’

5. Open the ‘Properties’ menu on the right and choose ‘TEMPLATE’

6. From the ‘Select a category’ drop-down menu,

7. Choose ‘Feedback’

8. The next step is to create the rubric using the ‘+ADD CONTENT’ button.

9. Choose the ‘RUBRICS’ element, and then the ‘Rubric Table’.

10. Edit the rubric table to include your required content. You can add, or delete, rows or columns using the cog

symbols. Cells can have scores associated with them which will collate when selected. NB: The score added

against each scale item will apply to each criterion cell under that scale. For example: you have an

assignment with a maximum mark of 60 points. If you wish to mark a High Distinction as 51 points (85%) and

you have three criteria, you will need to divide 51 by 3 and enter 17 as the number of points for an HD. Please

note: whole numbers only, no decimals.

If you are ECU Staff and require support/training please contact Learning Technologies Support Officers, e: [email protected] | p: 6304 2255 4

Alternatively, you can set the number of points to zero for each scale and use the rubric as a qualitative type

with no marks.

11. Use ‘+ ADD CONTENT’ and ‘POPULAR’ to include a multi-line comment box for additional feedback on the

template.

The Multi line text area automatically resizes as more text is entered. There is no limit on the size of the text

area.

12. The ‘Save as…’ block can’t be deleted. You will be using it to add a title for the feedback when marking.

13. The first time you save the template you will be

prompted to select a category (feedback) and enter a

title for the template.

14. The template is saved as a Resource in your RESOURCE Store. You can edit the template by finding it in

your Resource Store from the ‘burger’ menu at the top left, or from the Pebble+ menu

15. Click on the required template and choose Edit resource.

How to add the template to the workspace

Templates categorised as Feedback can be added to ATLAS workspaces to ‘scaffold’ assessor feedback.

How to mark using the feedback template

1. To use this feedback template, open a submission and click on the blue feedback icon. It is suggested you

leave feedback for the main asset rather than for the page.

2. The feedback panel will open. Select ‘Add feedback’ and then ‘Use feedback template’

3. The feedback template will open

and can then be completed.

Include a title under ‘save as…’.

Click on ‘Create’ at the bottom to

include a link to the completed

template in the feedback panel.

4. Either click on ‘Save & close’ in the feedback panel to

attach the feedback or click on ‘Save & add grade’ to

attach the feedback and add a grade. If you have

added points in the rubric they will not be added

automatically as a grade, you will have to

manually enter them using ‘Add grade’.

Please note: If you are using a ‘Scorecard’ instead of

‘Traditional grading’, the grades are entered using the

scorecard instead of ‘Add grade’.

How to Release feedback

1. If you wish, you can check ‘Feedback settings’ to specify how feedback is released to students.

2. Feedback and grades are released to students from the Submissions page. The tiny yellow exclamation

mark icon indicates which marks and feedback have not been released. A green arrow means they have been

released.

3. For the feedback that you wish to release, select the students using the check box next to their name, or the

check box next to Submission details to select all submissions.

4. Click on Manage feedback. You will be given the option to either release the feedback or recall previously

released feedback. Choose your option and click on Continue

Release feedback to release the feedback to the selected students. Students will receive an email from

PebblePad letting them know they have feedback.

WARNING ABOUT EDITING TEMPLATES!!

A Template is permanently linked to any Assets created from it, so any changes you make to a template Resource will change any Assets already created from it.

How to copy and share feedback templates

If you want to make changes to an asset-linked template Resource you will need to make a copy of the template first

so that you will be editing a different version. Ensure you re-name the copy so that you can keep track of the different

versions.

You can only edit templates that you own. Templates that have been shared with you must be copied before you can

edit them. However, the person sharing the template with you must give you Copy Permission (see Sharing

Templates below).

1. To copy a template, click on the icon to the left of the required template in your Resource list.

2. A tick indicates that the resource has been selected.

3. Click on the ‘I want to ...’ button which appears in the bottom

right hand corner of the screen and choose Copy.

If you are ECU Staff and require support/training please contact Learning Technologies Support Officers, e: [email protected] | p: 6304 2255 12

4. Choose to either rename the copy or have it appear in your Resource list with the original title followed by the

word copy. Click on Take a copy. This copy is now owned by you and it is separate from any Assets

associated with the original template. Any changes you now make to the copy will not flow through to the

Assets linked to the original template.

Sharing Templates

You can share a template with a small number of people

(e.g. your colleagues).

1. Select the required template in your Resource list

(click on the icon to the left of the title).

2. Click on the ‘I want to ...’ button which appears in

the bottom right hand corner of the screen and

choose Share.

3. Select I would like to share this .... With people

4. Enter the email addresses of people to share the

template with (you might need to ‘Look for other

PebblePad users’).

5. Choose the permissions you would like the

recipient(s) to have:

Page 13: Tip sheet for staff PebblePad Feedback Templates

If you are ECU Staff and require support/training please contact Learning Technologies Support Officers, e: [email protected] | p: 6304 2255 13

Allow recipients to leave a comment: recipients can view the template and provide you with feedback.

Allow recipients to take a copy: recipients can copy your template and then edit their copy.

Collaboration: recipients become co-owners of the template and you can build and edit the template together. All co-

owners have exactly the same ownership permissions over the resource. (NB: Once collaboration has been accepted

it cannot be removed - all collaborators have full ownership permissions and cannot remove other collaborators)

For all permissions (except Collaboration) you can also select View for a specified amount of time to set a time limit

on the availability of the template to the recipients.

If you do not choose any permissions the recipients can only open the template in response mode and create an

Asset from it.
