Facts About Your Money

• U.S. paper money is not paper at all: It’s 75% cotton and 25% linen. In Benjamin

Franklin’s day, people repaired torn bills with a needle and thread.

• Every month, 16 tons of old, cut-up cash goes to an energy-from-waste plant in

Chester, PA to be burned; the resulting steam produces electricity to power homes

throughout the Delaware Valley.

• With a life span of about 4 1/2 years, the $10 bill is our shortest-lived note. Our longest-living the $100 bill,

lasts only 15 years.

• It takes about 4,000 double folds (first forward, then backward) before a bill will tear. It takes far fewer folds

for a snooty vending machine to reject your bill-but you can fix that by popping your Washington in the mi-

crowave for 20 seconds.

• The U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing prints 32.2 million currency notes each day, with a face value of

approximately $907.8 million.

• Two dollar bills are seen as a rarity, but there are more than 1.1 billion of them in circulation. You can find

them at most local banks.

• The largest note ever made was the $100,000 Gold Certificate (printed Dec 1934 through Jan 1935). The bills

were used only in transactions between Federal Reserve banks and the U.S. Treasury.

• A quarter has 119 grooves around its edge; a dime has 118. The grooves were added to make it difficult for

people to file down the edges and sell the shavings as precious metals.

• Benjamin Franklin reportedly designed the first U.S. penny, in 1787. Instead of “E Pluribus Unum,” it

proudly stated, “Mind Your Business.”

• It costs more than a penny to make a penny. According to the U.S Mint, it costs roughly 1.7 cents per coin.

• The bald eagle on your money may have a name. From 1830 to 1836, a certain bird swooped into Philadel-

phia’s US Mint building so often that workers named him Peter the Mint Eagle, cared for him, and allegedly

used him as a model for coin engravings for years after.

• There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar. Go on—try to find them all

Page 5 Updates at the IPS/WRAP/PSR corner:

IPS News-

The Employment Specialists, Meredith Grant and Karla Anderson continue to get job starts for the

persons served in the IPS program. They got 3 more starts this month with several other persons

served doing interviews. Way to go ladies! The team also prepares for Fidelity Review this month.

IPS is an evidence-based program that promotes employment as a crucial part of one’s recovery.

Anyone interested in working is eligible. If you know of a person served that could benefit from the

program and would like employment, please complete a referral form and submit to Aimee Unakis.

WRAP News

The WRAP group started on February 24 and is held on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. and is going very well.

We currently have 7 participants in the 12 week course. We hope to be able to launch a WRAP for

WORK Group in the evenings soon.

WRAP is voluntary and can be self-referred or referred by a service provider. WRAP is an evidence-

based program and can be beneficial when added to other forms of treatment. WRAP puts the Recov-

ery in the person’s hands. It is a self-guided foundation that assists persons served with creating

their own recovery plan. Recovery has NO limits and NO boundaries! If you know of a person served

that could benefit from the program, please complete a referral form and submit to Aimee Unakis.

PSR News -

PSR will be starting a new quarter and the team will be submitting a list of items for donation to as-

sist the new curriculums. Keep watching for the items needed and we’ll help you Spring Clean your

house!

PSR teaches or re-teaches living skills an individual may have lost or never learned during their men-

tal illness recovery. These skills help individuals through group and individual settings to learn to be-

come more independent and to realize their highest potential for a productive life.

If you know of a person served that could benefit from the program, please complete a referral form

and submit to Aimee Unakis.

There are some popcorn bags left from when the

Employee Recognition Committee passed out pop-

corn on Popcorn Lovers Day. If you would like a

bag of popcorn come to Human Resources and

pick up a bag.

Thought for the Month

It’s only when we truly know and understand that

we have a limited time on earth — and that we

have no way of knowing when our own time is up

— that we will begin to live each day to the fullest,

as if it was the only one we had.
