Principal News It’s been a very busy first few weeks of Term 3, with lots happening in and around the school. Here’s a few snippets of what has been happening: PFA Barbecue Last Thursday the PFA held a very successful Market Day barbecue at Toora Foodworks. I walked down with Grade 6 students Scarlet and Mackenzie, who spent a couple of hours assisting with cooking, serving, money handling and cleaning up while I slacked off chatting to community members. PARENT OPINION SURVEY 2017 We are conducting a survey to find out what you think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is conducted annually by the Department Of Education and Training amongst a sample of randomly selected parents (in large schools) and every family (in small schools) at every school in Victoria. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey helps our school gain an understanding of how you view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships. Our school will use the results to inform school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes approx. 15 minutes to complete. It can be accessed from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August. The survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindu. Results will be sent back to our school at the end of September. For further information, please speak to you child’s teacher or visit: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/management/improvement/Pages/performsurveyparent.aspx School computers are available for those families needing to access from school. Please contact Di in the office if you wish to complete your Parent Opinion Survey at school.

This Term we began our gardening club thanks to Kerry Duroux and Juneen Schultz. In small group students have enjoyed going out and getting their hands dirty. Potting seedlings, tidying garden beds and getting ready to plant vegetables. Thank you to Troy Allott for the donation of old hay for mulching our garden beds. Next week the senior grade will start adding some muscle work to our vegetable garden. Writing - We have been learning to write “How To” texts (Procedural Text) below are some great examples from our students. In investigation we have been learning about Minibeasts and all sorts of bugs, insects and other creepy crawlies. Quiz your kids on their knowledge - you may be surprised that they know what Metamorphosis is! Next week I am away for 10 days returning on Thursday 17th August, in my absence our class will be in the capable hands of Ms Zeb Brierley - feel free to pop in and say hello, I’m sure Zeb would appreciate the same assistance you give me. Pete Snell has been coming into our classroom on a fortnightly basis to impart his musical prowess upon us. Students have been really enjoying these sessions and are currently making musical instruments. Watch this space fur-ther into the Term, I’m sure we will witness some AWESOME stuff at assemblies over coming weeks. YEAR 6 STUDENTS VISIT PROM COUNTRY AGED CARE AS PART OF FOSTERING THEIR LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance of Mrs Jenni Delaney, our Year 6 students have been involved in visits to the Prom Country Aged Care facility in Foster. For many of the residents at PCAC a visit from our students has been the highlight of their day. Even residents with serious memory loss or cognitive limitations have enjoyed the visits, even if they don’t remember it later. For our students, it has been a valuable opportunity to make a difference in an older persons life. Our students have had to learn how to interact with people different than themselves and they learn responsibility. With the ongoing visits happening each fortnight it allows for understanding and trust to develop which is essential for a real connection between people of any age.

Scarlet - We engaged with the residents of PCAC by using Balloon Therapy. Mackenzie - Most of the residents were happy with Brodie, Scarlet and myself visiting. Brodie - Amused the residents with his cartoonish dance moves. (had them in fits of laughter)
