Why choose Grand American Adventures?

ARRIVE ON YOUR OWN,TRAVEL AS FRIENDS‘I was a bit nervous of travelling on my own, but our group made the trip. We had such interesting people from around the world; it really was like travelling with a bunch of new found friends’

John Smith, London

No Local PaymentsOur Grand American Adventures tours include all private ground

transportation, all accommodation, entry to all National Parks and

monuments as per the itinerary and all meals whilst camping. A

range of guided walks/hikes and activities are also included in the

tour price; all you need to concentrate on is having a great time.

No Single SupplementsAs many of our customers travel alone, we match single travellers

with others of the same sex with no single supplement; a great way

to travel at an unbeatable price. If you do prefer your own room,

single rooms are often available on request, at an additional cost.

Top Quality Camping EquipmentGrand American Adventures travellers enjoy a comfortable

camping experience with large dome tents, inflatable sleeping

pads, camp chairs and top-of-the-line field kitchens to help make

the preparation of healthy, hearty meals a breeze.

Comfortable Lodging Accommodation Grand American Adventures travellers stay in a range of

comfortable accommodation including National Park lodges,

cowboy ranches and 3-star hotels, chosen for their amenities,

friendly atmosphere and close proximity to the attractions.

Our Fleet of Custom-Built Vehicles Our vehicles make travelling a pleasure, with raised ceilings for

increased headroom, individual captain seats for added comfort

and larger windows for maximum visibility. All luggage and

equipment is secured in a specially designed trailer, ensuring

every group is virtually self-sufficient whilst on the road.

Two Tour Leaders on all Walking ToursYou’ll benefit from the added convenience and support of two tour

leaders on all walking tours. That means you’re able to choose from

a well-paced mix of walks and hikes for all levels of fitness and you’ll

typically have the choice of at least two trail routes on most days.

Adventures for all AgesWhatever stage of life you’re at, there is a Grand American

Adventures tour for you. All our tours offer a variety of included

and optional activities, helping you tailor your tour to your own

desired level of adventure.

Small Group AdventuresWith a maximum group size of just 13 on most tours, it feels more

like travelling with friends than on an organised tour. A smaller

group gives you greater flexibility and lets you get further off the

beaten path for a more intimate travelling experience.

ALASKAThe name Alaska comes from the Aleut word ‘Alyeska’ or ‘great land’ and the 49th State certainly lives up to its name. With glaciers bigger than the whole of Switzerland, the tallest mountain in North America, an abundance of wildlife, unique Native American cultures and endless hiking and sightseeing opportunities, Alaska’s pristine coastline and rugged interior will leave you spellbound.See pages 40-43

Awe-inspiring National Parks let you immerse yourself in the great outdoors, while vibrant Native American cultures instill an almost spiritual beauty upon these immense and dramatic landscapes.See pages 12-39

MEXICOWith such a colourful culture, a wealth of archaeological sites and the beautiful coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico makes for an unforgettable holiday destination. CANADABordered by the Atlantic, Pacifi c and Arctic Oceans, Canada is a land of contrasts. Its modern cities boast some of the highest standards of living in the world, while its 39 national parks and numerous provincial parks are renowned for their natural beauty. NORTH AMERICA

EASTERN USAFrom New York to New Orleans, the east means something different to everyone. To some it’s Boston, Broadway, basketball and blues, to others its history, Harlem and hot Georgia nights. Swathes of mountain forests, soulful Deep Southern Blues, and fantastic cuisine make the East an incredible melting pot of virtually anything and everything.See pages 26-33

COSTA RICA‘Pura Vida’ is every Costa Rican’s favourite expression. It means ‘Pure Life’, and encompasses Costa Rica’s appreciation for nature. In fact, nearly 25% of Costa Rica’s land is protected with over 46 National Parks, private reserves and wildlife refuges. And this natural paradise isn’t short on adventure either, from hiking volcanoes to zip-lining through jungle canopy’s.See pages 48-51

PERUBetween the parched coastal desert and the lush expanse of the Amazon rainforest, Peru is a place in tune with its ancient past and rich colonial tradition. From the ruins of Machu Picchu, voted as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, to snow-capped mountains, brightly hued tropical birds, and vibrant local markets, Peru will overwhelm the senses.See pages 52-55

PATAGONIAPatagonia is an adventure lover’s paradise at the southern tip of South America. Mountains and sea come together like in no other place in the Americas, in what is often described as a place of extremes at the uttermost end of the earth. Powerful glaciers shape the landscape while the towering peaks of Torres del Paine National Park pierce the sky.See pages 57

BRAZILBrazil is the largest and only Portuguese speaking country in South America. The vast expanse of the Amazon, the wilderness of the Pantanal and over 7000km of coastline, mean Brazil boosts some of the richest bio-diversity on the planet. And its cities are no less lively, with music, dance and revelry at the core of the Brazilian way of life.See page 56

Leading the way…

On our Grand American Adventures you’ll benefi t from the fi nest we have to offer and that goes for our tour leaders as well. Hand-picked for their experience, they’ve hiked hundreds of miles of National Park trails, found the best campsites, discovered the most comfortable lodges and tried every activity in town. You’re sure to enjoy a wealth of information and insight from their vast local knowledge and expertise.

“I was asked recently what makes a good tour leader? To me the answer is the same as what makes a good passenger – attitude. Come ready for adventure with a positive attitude and we’ll have the time of our lives! While leading tours is the most demanding job I have ever had, it is without a doubt the most rewarding! I have shared some of the best moments of my life with my passengers, many of whom I now considerclose friends.”Charles Knowlton, Tour leader

Page 9: Trek America Grand American Adventures 2011

CAMPING IN COMFORT…Camping often allows us to stay in the heart of the most

breathtaking natural scenery, and we recognize that comfort is

the key to enjoying an incredible trip. When travelling with Grand

American Adventures, you’ll be provided with only the highest quality

camping gear; from spacious dome tents to fully equipped portable

kitchens. All you need to bring is a warm sleeping bag, as nights can

be cool at different elevations and times of the year.

Nearly all of the campgrounds have the usual modern conveniences,

including hot showers, flush toilets and other basic facilities; whilst

others even have pools, shops and laundrettes. All meals are

included whilst camping, and with our professional guides helping

to prepare healthy and delicious meals, there will certainly be some

fantastic international dinner parties while on the road.

LODGING IN STYLE…Our range of lodging tours offer the same adventure that you’ll

experience on our classic camping itineraries…but with the added

benefit of a comfortable bed and roof over your head at the end of

an eventful day. In North America, accommodation can be as varied

as a rustic wilderness lodge, boutique hotel, or even an authentic

ranch in the Desert Southwest. In Latin America, accommodation is

in clean and comfortable locally owned hotels.

Some of our tours even stay in historic lodges, situated in the

heart of North America’s most spectacular National Parks. Still

operational in all their former glory, these grand lodges are not

just places to stay, but pieces of history - you can almost hear the

pioneering tales of old radiating from their logwood walls.

Naturally responsible... Every Grand American Adventures tour gives you the opportunity to explore America’s stunning National Parks and wilderness regions and we have a strong sense of commitment to our natural surroundings and respect for the local people we encounter along the way. We train our tour leaders and educate our travellers in our ‘Leave No Trace’ philosophy, minimising our impact on the environment and wildlife by keeping to existing trails and campsites, and disposing of waste responsibly.

Grand Canyon VolunteeringWe partner with the US Parks Service to help maintain the National

Parks of the USA. We recently sponsored ten employee volunteers to

assist the Grand Canyon National Park rangers with clearing intrusive

vegetation along the scenic roads, improving visitor experiences and

wildlife viewing opportunities.

Tourism CaresWe are a founding member and partner of Tourism

Cares, a non-profit organisation with a mission to

preserve the travel experience for future generations

to enjoy. We have supported a post Hurricane Katrina

clean up of New Orleans and the revitalization of

Louis Armstrong Park, and the restoration of historic

sites in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

In June 2010, we helped clear and restore

recreational areas and trails through Angel Island

in San Francisco Bay.

Thames Clean Up ChallengeIn August 2010, some of our UK Sales team

volunteered with an environmental charity to clean-

up the banks of the River Thames, to benefit the local

environment where they live and work in London.

American Hiking SocietyWe are a proud supporter of the

American Hiking Society, championing

conservation issues in the United States

and representing millions of hikers, who are committed to

preserving beautiful hiking trails and the surrounding ecosystems.

Please go to www.grandamericanadventures.com/rt to learn more about

our responsible tourism policies.

WE CLEAN UP WELL

VOLUNTOURING IN COSTA RICA...

Give back to the local community and help preserve and protect

the wildlife in Costa Rica, by adding a two week volunteer

experience to the end of your Grand American Adventures tour.

• Experience a homestay with a local

Costa Rican family, while you work

with the community to build homes

for underprivileged families.

• Stay in a tropical forest reserve,

helping conserve the native plants and

wildlife near Montezuma. You’ll also

learn how to surf, supporting the local

surf school business on the nearby

beaches!

• Help safeguard endangered sea turtles

on the Pacifi c or Caribbean coast.

Before you book:We recommend that you carefully read the tour description, general tour concept and the booking conditions as well as the Grand American Adventures Essential Details on this page. Once you have decided on a tour and departure date, you can contact Grand American Adventures either by telephone, email or via the website to check tour availability. We can normally hold an ‘option’ for up to 5 days to give you time to finalise your plans and submit a completed booking form and deposit.

How to book your tour:Submit a completed booking form with your deposit. If paying by cheque or money order, please make payable to Trek America Travel Ltd. We regret that we cannot accept traveller’s cheques for tour payment. Please include information on anything else you may require such as travel insurance or accommodation before and after your tour.

Late bookings:Full payment is due at the time of booking if your trip is less than eight weeks away. Provided that there are still seats available you may book a tour at any time before the date of departure. However you must pay in full before joining the tour, and in case you are booking only a few days before the tour, we will email your travel documents.

Credit Cards/Debit Cards:We accept Visa, MasterCard, Connect, Solo and Switch for all payments. All payments by credit or charge card will be subject to a surcharge of 2.5%. Note that we do not apply the surcharge to payments made by debit card.

Passport & Visas:You will need a valid passport, together with visas where necessary for the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central/South American countries. It is important that you apply for visas while in your home country.

Note on US Electronic System for Travel Authority (ESTA):If you are travelling to the USA, the US authorities have introduced a requirement for passengers travelling under the Visa Waiver Programme to register for Electronic Travel Authority. For additional specifics about the VWP please consult the VWP information on the US Embassy London website. http://www.usembassy.org.uk/

Important: If you are refused boarding or denied admission at the US port of entry you will still be subject to our cancellation charges in accordance with the terms of our contract with you.

The US Government has recently announced that there will be a fee of $14 for all ESTA applications after 8th September 2010. You should apply for an ESTA at least 72 hours before travelling. We recommend that you carry your ESTA approval with you when you travel. For further information regarding this requirement, queries should be addressed to the US Embassy Consular department.

Grand American Adventures Tour Vouchers:Tour and Accommodation Vouchers will be emailed to you after final payment along with our pre-departure information; including practical guidance on what to pack, visas, finances, departure points, hotel transfers, etc. For those without access to email we will post your documents on request.

Transport to Gateway Hotels:Most Grand American Adventures passengers self-transfer/taxi to our gateway hotels. You will find detailed instructions on how to get to our hotels in your pre-departure information.

Gateway Hotels:We can pre-book additional nights before and after the trip in twin-share accommodation (or single rooms upon request). We encourage you to make your hotel requests at the time of booking. Hotels cancelled within 30 days of the tour departure are non-refundable. Feel free to contact our sales team with any questions.

Language:Although passengers come from many countries around the world, Grand American Adventures tours are conducted in English.

Itinerary:Our routes have been carefully chosen to include the best night stops and highlights. However, because operational conditions may vary and unforeseen circumstances can arise, we reserve the right to make itinerary changes when necessary.

Guided Day Hikes:Our leaders enjoy spending as much time as possible on the trail with their groups. As interests and capabilities do vary, our leaders will typically guide day hikes according to each group’s needs and the difficulty of the hike. On walking tours with two leaders, they will either guide separate hikes or offer additional activities and support. It will not always be possible for every hiker to be accompanied by a guide when groups divide up to explore different trails. N.B. Grand Canyon/Grand Teton National Park regulations limit group size and do not allow guided hikes.

Group Size:Grand American Adventures maintain a maximum group size of 13 people on most tours in North America (12 on Walking Tours) with travellers from all over the world sharing the common desire to experience and explore the great outdoors. Group sizes vary on some tours in Central and South America, with an average of 14 people.

Hotel Accommodation En Route (H):Grand American Adventures arranges comfortable 3 star hotels and lodges that are ideally located close to the National Parks. Some tours might feature a cowboy ranch or a historic lodge inside a National Park; most of our hotels in Costa Rica have swimming pools.

Providing more comfort, our National Park Lodges and Northwest Park Lodges tours stay in the historic National Park lodges and nearby resorts that offer exceptional atmosphere and comfort.

Lodging accommodation is always included in the tour price as indicated by (H) in the itinerary.

Abbreviations Used:NM = National Monument NP = National ParkSP = State Park NF = National ForestPP = Provincial Park

Camping Accommodation:Camping within and alongside the National Parks is an ideal way to access nature’s beautiful trails. Grand American Adventures uses high quality camp tents, field kitchens and camp chairs so you can comfortably relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. Our leaders help to prepare delicious meals (included in the price while camping) so you can eat fresh, hearty meals on the road.

Camp Duties:Tour leaders will organise food shopping, meal preparation and clean up on camping based tours. With instruction from the tour leader, passengers will set up, pack their tents/kitchen and assist leaders as requested. Typically it takes only 15 minutes to set up the tents and camp kitchen.

Spending Money:It is essential that you carry local currency or US dollars on tour for optional activities, souvenirs or restaurant meals. Cash points may not be readily available, and credit cards will often not be accepted for local activities. You should also bring some USD traveller’s cheques to be sure that you may access funds during your trip.

Tour Departures and Finish:Grand American Adventures tours begin and end at our gateway hotels. The group will usually meet at 7.30am on day one, but times may vary so check your tour voucher/itinerary for exact details. On the final day your tour will usually end upon arrival at the hotel at approximately 5.00pm. However, some tours vary from these times - please check specific itineraries. If you require hotel accommodation this night, you must buy an accommodation voucher at the time of booking. Please do not book a flight on the last day of your tour that departs prior to 9pm for international flights.

Sleeping Bags:Grand American Adventures supplies all camping equipment needed EXCEPT a sleeping bag. If pre-requested, a good quality sleeping bag can be purchased for tours departing Los Angeles, Seattle or the New York area. Standard summer bags are $45 with warmer bags for early and late season trips available for $80.

Luggage:All luggage is carried in trailers or inside the vehicle, so please don’t bring more than one medium sized suitcase or rucksack (maximum 20kg) and your sleeping bag. Your suitcase/rucksack may get some rough handling, so make sure it’s a tough one. Small hand baggage may also be carried inside the vehicle.

Climate & Clothes:Climate varies sometimes dramatically, in the regions and altitudes we pass through, but temperatures will generally be hot during June, July, August and early September and warm at other times. For early and late season tours, we strongly recommend that you bring a warmer sleeping bag and jacket, as temperatures fall at night - especially in mountainous areas and in the north. While you will mainly wear casual, light clothing on your tour, you will certainly need a warm sweater, and something smarter for evening wear when we are closer to the big city night life. Hikers and walkers need to bring adequate footwear. For further information please refer to the tour’s trip dossier and/or see our website.

Local Operators:Grand American Adventures utilises well established local tour operators in Central & South America and for other specialised itineraries. These companies and their tour leaders were carefully selected for their professionalism and knowledge of the region. They maintain our philosophy of running friendly tours that offer a personal local perspective and unbeatable value for money.

Vehicle:Our private vehicles are customised to ensure your comfort whilst on tour. With a fleet of Ford vans in North America and a variety of Mercedes/Toyota and other vehicles in Latin America, all luggage, camping equipment and other necessities are secured in a specially designed trailer or storage area. Vehicles are equipped with large windows and stereo systems so you’ll be cruising down the road in style, and every group is virtually self-sufficient and able to explore where the crowds can’t go. It may be necessary from time to time to utilise an alternative vehicle from the one described in the brochure hereto, or in some cases to utilise complementary public transportation (including trains/airplanes/ferries/buses), as local operating conditions permit.

Medical:Illness or dental trouble can spoil your holiday, so it’s always wise to have a thorough check-up before you leave home. You should also consult your doctor concerning which inoculations are advisable and necessary for specific areas.

Age Limits:Grand American Adventures Camping, Lodging and Walking Tours are designed for adults over 18 years old. While most passengers are 25-55, we get many people both above and below this range who prefer to travel in a small group unrestricted by age.

On our Family Discovery Tours the average age of children is 13 years old and the minimum age is 8 years old (accompanied by their parents).

For safety reasons, travellers over 55 will be asked to complete a self-declaration of fitness, although experience has shown us that our senior travellers are often in the best shape!

When To Travel:While many clients must travel at a certain time of the year, those that have a choice often ask us ‘When is the best time to travel?’. As any experienced traveller will tell you, they prefer early or late in the season when many of the tourists have gone home and the National Park hiking trails, beaches and attractions are uncrowded. This holds especially true for an experience like a Grand American Adventures tour. We encourage our more flexible passengers to take advantage of this by offering lower prices for our tours ‘off-peak’.

Passengers travelling ‘off-peak’ (reflected by the lowest price for each tour) should keep in mind that part of the adventure is that the weather is very changeable and sometimes inclement. While it depends on the particular tour, we recommend a good three season sleeping bag for camping tours, warm clothes (lots of wool) and rain gear (particularly for Northwest USA and Canada). For further information please refer to the tour’s trip dossier and/or see our website.

We believe that safety and holiday enjoyment are equally important. Travel insurance, therefore, is a must whenever you travel abroad. It is a common mistake to think ‘it will never happen to me’.

It is a condition of joining any of our tours that you must

be insured against medical and personal accident risks (to

include repatriation costs, air ambulance, and helicopter

rescue service). Please note you will be asked to provide

details of your insurance policy before you embark on your

trip. We have been working with the same reputable Insurance

Broker for many years, Campbell Irvine, who have specifically

designed our policy to cover the many optional activities

offered on our holidays. So whether you’re scuba diving, horse

riding, canoeing or mountain biking you can rest assured

that you are covered when travelling with us. With the Grand

American Adventures policy there are other specialised

features, such as cover for additional transport charges, if you

are delayed in joining a trip due to airline delay.

completed Booking Form, a copy of Exhibit “A”

signed and dated by all members of your party

or by parents/guardians if any of the customers

are under 18 years of age, and a non-refundable

deposit. You will need to pay a non-refundable

deposit of 10% of your selected travel arrangement

or UK£125/EUR150/USD200/AUD225/NZD275

whichever is greatest. We will then invoice you for

the remainder of the cost, which you must pay not

later than 8 weeks before departure. If you book

less than 8 weeks before departure, full payment

must be made on booking. The booking is not

accepted and no contract shall exist between us

until the date shown on the confirmation issued

by the Company. Notification of cancellation must

be made to the Company in writing and will be

effective on receipt.

2) Bookings made direct over the telephone,

by email/ website, more than 8 weeks before

departure will not be deemed accepted until

we have received a signed booking form or a

completed online booking form, and a copy of

Exhibit “A” signed and dated by all members

of your party or by parents/guardians if any

of the customers are under 18 years of age

and we have issued a confirmation. If a signed

booking form and all copies of Exhibit “A” are

not received within 10 days of the direct booking

being made, we will assume you do not wish to

continue with your booking and your booking

reservation will be released, your deposit

refunded and the place will be released for

resale. Direct bookings made less than 8 weeks

before departure (i.e. when full payment is due

on booking) will be subject to the cancellation

conditions in clause 5 below regardless of

whether a booking form and all copies of Exhibit

“A” have been received in our office.

3) If you cancel your booking more than 8 weeks

before departure you may transfer your deposit

and travel insurance to another holiday in our

current programme (provided you are not already

booked on it) on payment of a transfer fee of

UK£50/EUR60/USD80/AUD90/NZD110, subject

to you notifying us in writing within two weeks of

your cancellation, telling us which holiday you wish

to transfer to and paying the transfer fee. If you

subsequently cancel the holiday to which you have

transferred, we will retain your full original deposit

and transfer fee.

4) It is recommended that reservations for pre

and post tour accommodation are made at least

one month before the departure date of the tour.

If you cancel a hotel reservation that has been

confirmed after final payment has been made, and

is between 8 weeks and 30 days of departure, then

an amendment fee will be charged. These rates

are: UK£25/EUR30/USD40/AUD45/NZD55. If a hotel

is cancelled within 30 days of departure then the

hotel becomes 100% non refundable.

5) If you cancel your booking after you have paid in

full the following cancellation charges will be made

in addition to the deposit:

• between 43 and 56 days before departure:

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50% of the holiday cost

• between 31 and 42 days before departure:

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 75% of the holiday cost

• 30 days or less before departure (or fail to join

the holiday) . . . . . . . . 100% of the holiday cost

These dates refer to the date we receive written

notification of your cancellation. We strongly advise

you to take out insurance against irrecoverable

cancellation costs.

6) If you are prevented from travelling, you may

transfer your booking to another person provided

they meet all the requirements relating to that

holiday. A transfer fee of UK£100/EUR120/USD160/

AUD180/NZD220 will be payable, and the tour must

be paid in full at the time of the change. Additional

costs such as airline tickets may also be payable.

Should you transfer your booking to another

person, you will both be jointly and severally

liable for payment of the holiday price and other

associated expenses.

7) If you do not pay the balance of your holiday cost

within 8 weeks of departure your booking will be

terminated and you will lose your deposit.

8) We will let you know as soon as we can if we are

forced to significantly alter or cancel your holiday.

In these circumstances you can choose one of the

following options:

a) accept our offer of a replacement holiday of

lower cost (if available) and we will refund the

difference in cost; or

b) accept our offer of a replacement holiday of

equivalent or higher cost (if available); or

c) ask us for a refund of the money you have paid.

Please note if you book on a departure that is

“guaranteed”, in rare instances your tour may run

with less than 5 passengers and there will be no

forced cancellations.

Your decision about which alternative you accept

must be made as soon as possible after we notify

you. If appropriate we will also compensate you

for the inconvenience unless the alteration or

cancellation is because there are insufficient

numbers to run the holiday, minimum of 5

passengers, in which event we shall inform you

at least 8 weeks prior to departure, or if the

alteration or cancellation has come about because

of unavoidable, unusual and unforeseeable

circumstances beyond our control. If we cancel

your holiday, insurance premiums paid to us will be

refunded, except in the case of annual insurance

that has already covered a risk. We strongly advise

you not to incur any non-refundable incidental

expenses, e.g. for visas or flights, before we

confirm your tour (8 weeks before departure).

9) All prices featured in this brochure are

correct at time of print and subject to change.

Before booking and not less than 30 days prior

to departure the prices featured may change. We

reserve the right to impose surcharges once you

have booked but no surcharges will be imposed

within 30 days of departure and any downward

revision in the price will be refunded to you.

Surcharges will only be imposed for significant

variations in:

a) transport costs, including the cost of fuel.

b) dues, taxes or fees chargeable for services such

as landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation

fees at ports and airports; or

c) the exchange rates applied to the booking.

Price increases and surcharges will be calculated

according to the full extra cost compared to the

costs obtained when this brochure was produced

and using an exchange rate of £1=USD1.55. In

any event we shall absorb the first 2% of any such

surcharge. Any increase to the price that exceeds

10% of the total holiday cost will entitle you to the

options outlined in clause 8 above.

10) A general indication is provided in this

brochure of the itinerary for each holiday, the type

of accommodation used, what is included in the

price, passport and visa requirements. Changes in

all of these items may be made at any time. The

final decisions on itinerary, accommodation and

conduct of the tour will be taken by the tour leader

appointed by the Company.

11) Any information or advice provided by the

Company on matters such as permits, visas,

vaccinations, climate, clothing, baggage, special

equipment, etc. is given in good faith but without

responsibility on the part of the Company, and the

passenger accepts responsibility for obtaining any

necessary visas and travel documents required for

the holiday.

When travelling to the US you must have the

correct passport to travel on the Visa Waiver

Programme or have obtained the correct visa, valid

for your stay. Each person wishing to visit the US

must have either

a) an e-passport (if your passport is issued after

26 October 2006), or a machine readable passport

(containing a digital photograph if your passport is

issued after the 26 October 2005) and an Electronic

System for Travel Authority (ESTA) (for information

visit http://www.usembassy.org.uk)

b) a valid passport and a valid visa which must be

obtained before travel from the US authorities.

Children and minors wanting to travel to the US

must hold their own machine readable passport or

e-passport. Please note that the nationals of some

countries can only travel to the US if they have a

valid visa as they are not eligible for an ESTA.

12) If any significant changes to the holiday have to

be made before departure, we undertake to inform

you, and you are entitled to the options detailed in

clause 8 above. A ‘significant change’ is a change

of more than 24 hours (12 hours for holidays of 10

days’ duration or less) in departure or return timings

or other such change to itinerary and services that

would reasonably be considered significant.

13) Your booking is accepted on the understanding

that you realise the hazards involved in this kind of

holiday, including injury, disease, loss or damage

to property, inconvenience and discomfort. The

whole philosophy of this type of travel is one that

allows alternatives and a substantial degree of

on-trip flexibility. The outline itineraries given

for each holiday must therefore be taken as an

indication of what each group should accomplish.

Changes in itinerary may be caused by local

political conditions, flight cancellations, mechanical

breakdown, weather, border restrictions, sickness,

or other unforeseeable circumstances. No

refunds will be given for services not utilised.

It is a fundamental condition of joining any of

the holidays described in this brochure that

you accept this flexibility, and acknowledge that

delays and alterations and their results, such as

inconvenience, discomfort, or disappointment,

are possible. If we are unable to complete the

proposed itinerary owing to the reasons stated

above, we will either transport you to the end

point of the itinerary, or return you to the starting

point, or provide an agreed alternative itinerary,

and pay compensation for the uncompleted part

of the itinerary if appropriate. If a passenger

is unable, or does not choose, to complete an

itinerary outlined for a holiday, the Company is not

liable to supply alternative itineraries, excursions,

accommodations, services or staff for the period

when the client is not present with the group.

14) On an active group holiday if you participate in

the activities it is necessary that you abide by the

authority of the tour leader. The tour leader is not

an employee of the Company, however, they are

appointed by the Company to guide your tour. The

tour leader is not responsible for any activity which

you undertake, because you are in the best position

to know your own individual competence with

respect to any activity you engage in. Completing

and signing our booking form and Exhibit “A”

signifies your agreement to this, and if you commit

any illegal act when on the trip or if in the opinion

of the tour leader your behaviour is causing or

likely to cause danger, distress or annoyance to

others we may terminate your travel arrangements

without any liability on our part. If you are affected

by any condition, medical or otherwise, that might

affect your or other people’s enjoyment of the trip,

you must advise us of this at the time of booking.

15) Before you begin the holiday you must be

covered by insurance, which must include adequate

cover for baggage, medical expenses and the

cost of repatriation, should you become too ill

to continue, including helicopter rescue and air

ambulance. We recommend an insurance scheme

specifically designed for this kind of travel, and

we strongly recommend you to use it. Any claims

concerning matters for which you are insured must

be directed to your insurers.

16) If you have any complaint about the holiday,

you must make it known at the earliest opportunity

to the tour leader and/or the local representative,

who will normally be able to take appropriate

action. If you are not satisfied with their response

and you feel your enjoyment of the holiday is likely

to be significantly affected, you should notify our

respective local operations office by phone, and

we will do our best to resolve the problem. Please

refer to your pre-departure information which you

will receive with your booking confirmation for all

necessary contact numbers in case of emergency

or complaint. If at the end of the holiday, you feel

your complaint has not been properly dealt with,

we shall try and agree a settlement with you, but

you must first notify us of your complaint in writing

within a reasonable period of time, normally within

but not necessarily limited to 30 days after your

tour’s completion.

We can usually sort out any complaints you may

have, but if we cannot agree you can take the

matter to arbitration administered by IDRS, part of

the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Details and

application forms are available from ABTA Ltd, 30

Park Street, London, SE1 9EQ, www.abta.com. The

arbitrator will only deal with your complaint if it

relates to a tour and:

• you are claiming up to £5,000 for each person or

£25,000 for each booking;

• you contact them within 9 months of the end of

your tour; and

• your complaint does not involve major physical

injury or illness in excess of £1,000.

This is a cheap and simple way of sorting out

complaints and there are limits on the costs you

might have to pay. You do not have to appear in

person, but can send documents to explain your

complaint. If you would like more details please ask

our customer service staff. If you prefer, you can

take your complaint to the County Court or another

suitable court. Information regarding complaints

may be shared with other tour operators.

17) In any event, you are strongly advised to insure

yourself against any possible risk that may occur

and in particular to ensure that you have sufficient

insurance in respect of dependent relatives. You

are required to carry proof of insurance with

you and produce it if reasonably requested by

company employees or suppliers. Passengers

travelling on vehicles owned by the Company

are covered by passenger liability insurance

up to a maximum of £3 million per group per

incident, and by completing our Booking Form

you acknowledge that the Company has taken all

reasonable steps to safeguard its liability in this

respect. Except in instances of personal injury or

death, where the Company is found to be liable for

damages in respect of its failure to carry out the

contract, the maximum amount of such damages,

compensation and loss of enjoyment will normally,

but not necessarily, be limited to three times the

basic holiday price shown on the invoice. Where

the damages relate to the provision of transport

by air, sea or rail, or hotel accommodation, any

compensation payable will be further limited

by the EU Charter of Passengers Rights, the

Warsaw Convention as amended by the Hague

Protocol (air), the Athens Convention 1974 (sea),

the Berne Convention 1961 (rail), and the Paris

Convention 1962 (hotel accommodation), or any

such statute or regulation as may from time to

time amend or supersede any of the above. Copies

of the conditions of carriage and any conventions

which may apply are available on request. Any

independent arrangements that you make which

are not part of the holiday are entirely at your

own risk.

18) Any flights forming part of the holiday

arrangements are subject to the conditions of

the carrying airline, which in most cases limit the

airline’s liability to the passenger in accordance

with International Law and conventions. Copies

of the conditions of carriage and any conventions

which may apply are available on request.

When you buy an ATOL protected air package or

flight from us you will receive a confirmation invoice

from us (or via our authorised agent through which

you booked) confirming your arrangements and

your protection under our Air Travel Organiser’s

License number 6576. In the unlikely event of our

insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not

stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any

money you have paid to us for an advance booking.

For further information visit the ATOL website at

www.atol.org.uk.

The price of your holiday includes the amount of

£2.50 per person as part of the ATOL Protection

Contribution (APC) we pay to the CAA. This

charge is included in our advertised prices. For

package holidays that do not include travel by

air we provide this security by way of a bond held

by ABTA If you book arrangements other than a

package holiday the financial protection referred

to above does not apply. We are a Member of

ABTA, membership number Y0696. We are

obliged to maintain a high standard of service to

you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct.

In June 2010 the UK Government announced a

consultation into replacing Air Passenger Duty

on flights departing from UK airports with a Per

Plane Duty (PPD). Indications are that this could

be launched in Autumn 2010. At this time we are

not aware of the final details of the new Duty, and

prices have therefore been calculated as if Air

Passenger Duty continues to be in effect. In the

event that our costs increase as a result of the

change, we reserve the right to adjust the prices

shown to reflect those changes in costs.

19) Bookings cannot be accepted from persons

under the age of 18 years at the date of the

departure unless prior written consent is granted

by the Company to the applicant for inclusion in the

tour. The Company reserves the right to refuse an

application made by a minor without the written

consent of a parent or legal guardian having first

been obtained, and the Company further reserves

the right to refuse bookings from minors solely on

account of their age.

20) Any likeness or image of you secured or taken

on any of our holidays may be used by the Company

without charge in all media (whether now existing

or in the future invented) for bona fide promotional

or marketing purposes, including without limitation

promotional materials of any kind, such as

brochures, slides, video shows and the internet.

21) You must carry your proper identification/

proof of citizenship for travel. You should consult

your consulate for I.D. or visa requirements.

It is your sole responsibility to obtain proper

identification/ proof of citizenship required by

the destination to which you are travelling.

Airlines require all passengers to provide birth

date, country of citizenship, form of I.D. that

will be used for travel, and emergency contact

information. This information must be provided

to the Company with your initial reservation or

by accessing your account on our website. In all

cases, this information must be provided to us no

later than 14 days prior to departure or you are

subject to cancellation without refund. Citizenship

documentation requirements and airline-required

information vary by destination/carrier and are

subject to change without notice; the Company

assumes no responsibility for such changes

or notifying Trip participants of such changes.

Passengers who are denied boarding or entry for

23) In the United States, the legal drinking age

is 21. The Company does not condone the use of

alcohol by those under the legal drinking age and

in no way condones or encourages intoxication

or the use of illegal drugs. If you are over the

legal drinking age and you choose to drink, we

urge you to do so responsibly and ask that you

remember that the excessive use of alcohol or any

use of illegal drugs can result in severely impaired

judgment, injury, and/or death. You should also

know that the underage use of alcohol or any use of

illegal drugs can result in imprisonment.

24) To ensure that your holiday runs smoothly,

we need to use information such as your name

and address, special needs, dietary requirements

etc. We will apply appropriate security measures

to protect this data. However, we must pass it to

suppliers of your travel arrangements including

airlines, hotels and transport companies. We

may also supply it to security or credit checking

companies, and to public authorities such as

customs and immigration. If your holiday is outside

the European Economic Area (EEA), controls on

data protection in your destination may not be as

strict as in the UK. We will only pass data, including

sensitive information regarding disabilities or

dietary and religious requirements, to people

responsible for your holiday arrangements. If

we cannot pass this information to the relevant

suppliers, whether in the EEA or not, we cannot

provide your booking. When you make this booking,

you consent to this information being passed to

the relevant people. We can supply you with a copy

loss or damage to property, inconvenience and

acknowledging that you have read and understood

this document and agree to assume all risks

associated with the tour to the maximum extent

permitted by law.

Day 1/2 Las Vegas > Zion National

Park (H) Zion National Park mixes

peaceful beauty with powerful

landscapes. The tree-lined Virgin

River supports fragile flora and

fauna as it meanders below massive,

cathedral-like sandstone walls,

soaring several thousand feet into

the sky. Zion National Park has a

wide variety of trails to choose from,

to let you explore its high cliffs and

cascading waterfalls. If you are

feeling ambitious, enjoy the park’s

most famous challenge - Angels

Landing - and be rewarded with one

of the most breathtaking panoramas

you will ever lay eyes on.

Day 3 Bryce Canyon National Park (H)

‘Mysterious’ and ‘out of this world’,

are just a couple of descriptions

offered by past visitors enchanted by

Bryce Canyon National Park. With

plenty of time to take advantage of

the park’s incredible system of trails,

you will encounter a kaleidoscope

of colours and a fantasyland of rock

spires, that will leave you searching

for your own description for this

bizzare landscape.

Day 4 Monument Valley (H)

Home of the Navajo community, this

special place is a perfect setting for

incredible sunsets and sunrises. Opt

to take a Navajo-guided backroads

tour off the beaten track and

experience the rich Native American

culture of this tribe and an incredible

array of rock formations.

Day 5-6 Grand Canyon National

Park (H) No introduction is required

here, but a two-night stop certainly

is! This national landmark is 18

miles wide, 277 miles long and over

a mile deep, making it one of the

largest canyon systems in the world.

Stroll the meandering South Rim

Trail, hike your way down to Plateau

Point, opt for a scenic flight or simply

relax at the canyon’s edge and enjoy

a spectacular sunset over one the

world’s natural wonders.

Canyon National Park The Grand

Canyon offers the most spectacular

geological extravaganza on earth.

Despite being a desert setting, plants

and wildlife thrive. Cacti, wild flowers,

Bighorn sheep, mule deer, coyotes

and ringtail cats may be seen along

the banks, while overhead many

species of birds may be observed,

including hawks, golden eagles,

falcons, great blue herons and egrets.

You will have the opportunity to hike

and swim in side canyons, as well as

running class IV whitewater rapids.

Due to the length of river covered on

this tour, specially crafted motorised

rafts are used for safety and comfort.

These allow ample supplies to be

carried for the entire journey and are

roomier and more stable than rowed

boats, so travellers of all fitness levels

can enjoy this incredible experience.

You can travel light - the climate is

mild, and just a few changes of clothes

are needed. We supply waterproof river

bags and camera boxes, so that you

can focus on enjoying the sights and

sounds of the river, its hidden trails,

secluded riverside campsites and

stunning canyon sunrises and sunsets.

Churchill Polar Bear Experience6 Day Lodging Tour

Venture north to Canada’s arctic tundra for this once in a lifetime experience

viewing wild polar bears in their natural habitat. Explore historic Churchill

before a tour of Cape Merry and a visit to the famous Polar Bear Jail.

CANADA

Day 1 Winnipeg (H) Arrive in Winnipeg

and check in to our conveniently located

hotel at your leisure.

Day 2 Winnipeg > Churchill (H) Catch

an early morning flight to Churchill

and transfer to the Arctic lodge. This

renowned family-owned lodge has been

hand-crafted from local materials, with

charming log buildings and décor to

match the personal friendly service.

Day 3 / 4 Churchill (H) Spend two full

days exploring the tundra and boreal

forest of the Hudson Bay coastline in

search of the majestic polar bear. Our

driver/guide will lead expeditions to

designated wildlife viewing areas where

it is not uncommon to see arctic fox and

hare, camouflaged ptarmigan and - if

you are lucky - the snowy owl.

Day 5 Churchill > Winnipeg (H) On

a cultural and heritage tour, visit

the historic Cape Merry, where the

Churchill River spills into the bay, and

several other sites with short hikes

along the coastline. Then it’s on to the

‘Polar Bear Jail’. One way the citizens

of Churchill care for their polar bear

friends is to put them in ‘jail.’ When

someone spots a polar bear too close to

town, they call a special phone number,

and the bear is humanely trapped

and placed in jail until it can be safely

transported back to the wild. There will

also be time for an exhilarating dog

sled tour or a scenic helicopter flight

over the nearby Hudson Bay and Cape

Churchill, before your return flight to

Winnipeg.

Day 6 Winnipeg Take time to explore

Winnipeg, home to the world’s largest

collection of Inuit art, before preparing

for your return flight home.

Please note: One day will be spent on a large and comfortable tundra vehicle with the other on a more nimble Wildlife Viewing Bus. Both vehicles are custom built and equipped with a propane furnace, toilet facilities, and a rear viewing deck for safe photography outside the vehicle. Although the vehicles can accommodate up to 40 passengers, group sizes are limited to a maximum of 25 for comfort and convenience. A hearty packed lunch, hot drinks and snacks are included.

Chilca, follow the Urubamba River before

a gentle climb to a pleasant campsite

at Llactapata (2,850m). Continue along

the Cusichaca River, ascending a broad
