Going: Soft

Left handed, galloping. Nine fences to a circuit again now, though the four in the home straight have been switched to the inside of the hurdles track after problems caused by the realignment of the nearby A1. The signs are the fences still punish those who aren’t accurate. It’s a very fair test for any horse but is ideal for the free-running, long-striding sort.

Pace Information: Uncontested

1 HELLO BOB (18) (D) h 551-50804 5 11-12 | 75.3kg Samuel Drinkwater Richard Patrick Looked useful when scoring readily on Musselburgh bumper debut last March. Well held in novice/maiden hurdles for new yard this season, but better expected now switching to a handicap.

2 VICKY CRISTINA (IRE) (13) 81067 5 11-0 | 69.9kg John Holt Lewis Stones (3lb/1kg) Poor Flat maiden who has been soundly beaten all 3 starts over hurdles, but at least gets a crack at handicaps now.

3 OCEANUS (IRE) (124) 983/5-63776 6 10-12 | 68.9kg Dianne Sayer Danny McMenamin Fair on Flat and back on track over hurdles when third at Cartmel in June. Has failed to back that up in 3 subsequent starts, but mark has fallen and could have benefited from a break.

4 FLANAGANS FIELD (IRE) (13) (D) b 10051207331 12 10-11 | 68.5kg Bernard Llewellyn Charlie Price Veteran who confirmed the promise of his last run to win for a second time this season in 2m selling handicap at Catterick 13 days ago. Should remain competitive.

5 FIRST OF NEVER (IRE) (40) (CD) 99F721-6599 14 10-4 | 65.3kg Lynn Siddall Blair Campbell Weak finisher but actually managed to win twice last season, including over C&D. Little impact this term, but did hint at a revival at Doncaster last time and is now 5 lb lower.

6 KISUMU (42) s+t 9348824455 8 10-0(9-11) | 63.5kg (62.1kg) Micky Hammond Emma Smith-Chaston (6lb/3kg) Long-standing maiden who posted another creditable effort from out of the weights when fifth at Sedgefield (19.8f) last month, though isn’t really one to go overboard about. Back down in trip here.

6 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:7-4 Flanagans Field, 7-2 Hello Bob, 9-2 Oceanus, 13-2 Kisumu, 9-1 First of Never, 20-1 Vicky Cristina

TIMEFORM VIEW:There should be better to come from HELLO BOB now venturing into handicaps, so she’s put forward as the answer in what looks a very winnable race. Catterick-scorer Flanagans Field is holding his form well at present, so should remain competitive, while Oceanus could well have benefited from a break and is another to consider.

1 RAASHDY (IRE) (45) 81213537 7 11-7 | 73.0kg Sam England Jonathan England Won 2m Hexham maiden hurdle in September and ran well in Newcastle handicap at the turn of the year. Probably vulnerable under his penalty up in trip.

2 COEUR SEREIN (IRE) (18) 903373 6 11-1 | 70.3kg Jonjo O’Neill Jonjo O’Neill Jr. Much improved under a considerate ride when third in deep Newbury novice hurdle (20.5f) last month, never nearer. Capable of better still and leading claims here.

3 DEVOUR (IRE) (91) 778 7 11-1 | 70.3kg Susan Corbett Nathan Moscrop (3lb/1kg) Bred for the jumping game and placed both starts in Irish points, but looked one for later on when well held on Catterick (19.3f) hurdling bow in December.

4 EAGLE DE GUYE (FR) 79 6 11-1 | 70.3kg Rose Dobbin Craig Nichol Half-brother to temperamental but fair chaser Albatros de Guye (2½m winner). Cost a bit at £66,000 but not seen since finishing third on point debut back in May 2018.

5 GLOBAL FAME (IRE) (81) t 10012 6 11-1 | 70.3kg Fergal O’Brien Connor Brace (3lb/1kg) Successful Rules debut in Southwell bumper in December and made a bright start over hurdles when splitting a useful pair at Chepstow over this trip at Christmas. Tongue tie on and sure to do better.

6 MR WIGGINS 60 8 11-1 | 70.3kg Tina Jackson Ross Chapman Alflora gelding. Dam point winner. Last of 3 finishers sole completed start in points (April 2018).

7 ROBIN DES CHAPP (IRE) 80 5 11-1 | 70.3kg Philip Kirby Thomas Dowson Half-brother to stable star Lady Buttons who made a successful debut in all 3 NH disciplines. Should attract plenty of interest but taking on a couple of promising experienced ones. Has had a wind op.

8 MOROZOV COCKTAIL (IRE) (27) 750 4 10-7 | 66.7kg Tim Easterby Jamie Hamilton Morozov gelding out of a fair 2½m hurdle winner. Well beaten in Doncaster novice hurdle on debut last month.

8 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:11-10 Global Fame, 5-2 Coeur Serein, 10-1 Raashdy, 12-1 Robin Des Chapp, 16-1 Eagle De Guye, 66-1 bar

TIMEFORM VIEW:Bumper-winner GLOBAL FAME split a useful pair on his debut over hurdles at Chepstow at Christmas and seems sure to do better. He gets the vote over Coeur Serein. There will be plenty of local interest in newcomer Robin des Chapp, who is a half-brother to Lady Buttons.

Pace Information: Weak

1 ROXBORO ROAD (IRE) (10) s 831-6P9SF4P 7 11-13 | 75.7kg Ben Haslam Richie McLernon Shaped much better than result when fourth at Punchestown earlier this year, a bad mistake 2 out ending all chance. However, ran no sort of race on debut for this yard at Ayr. Headgear refitted.

2 WELL SMITTEN (IRE) (15) (D) s 96U-24U71P5 8 11-12 | 75.3kg Sam England Jonathan England Rejuvenated by new stable to capitalise on a reduced mark at Doncaster in December. Reportedly suffered an overreach there next time but ran poorly back here 2 weeks ago.

3 LADY MASTER (20) (CD) 954232-P313 7 11-7 | 73.0kg Caroline Bailey James Bowen Proved better than ever when winning at Market Rasen (19f) last month but a 7 lb rise seemed to find her out when a respectable third there since.

4 SHOW AND GO (IRE) (18) s+t 950-464845P 11 11-6 | 72.6kg Chris Grant Miss Charlotte Crane (7lb/3kg) Won twice over fences for Henry de Bromhead last year but well below form since, including for this yard.

5 KING GOLAN (IRE) (13) b+t 100646466P5 9 11-1 | 70.3kg Kenny Johnson Sean Quinlan Dual 3m chase winner last summer and back on a good mark. Return to further here will suit and of interest.

6 FRANKIE BALLOU (IRE) (15) v+t 97PF343322 11 10-4 | 65.3kg Joanne Foster Danny Cook Three-time winner at Sedgefield in 2018 and arrives in good heart, placed last 4 starts, close second from out of the handicap in this headgear over C&D 2 weeks ago. Big player off 1 lb lower.

6 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:5-2 Frankie Ballou, 7-2 King Golan, 9-2 Lady Master, 5-1 Roxboro Road, 13-2 Well Smitten, 33-1 Show And Go

TIMEFORM VIEW:KING GOLAN is in better heart than recent form figures suggest and he can take advantage of his current mark back over an adequate trip. Frankie Ballou responded well to a visor when a close second over C&D 2 weeks ago and is the obvious threat.

TIMEFORM 1-2-3:1. KING GOLAN (IRE) 2. FRANKIE BALLOU (IRE) 3. LADY MASTER

Pace Information: Very Weak

1 GENNADY (IRE) (15) (D) 9065414319 6 11-13 | 75.7kg Sam England Jonathan England Impressive when landing a gamble on handicap debut at Kelso in October and doubled career tally at Newcastle in January. Well below form on first outing since leaving Keith Dalgleish, though.

2 LASKADINE (FR) (26) (D) 94115-P66 5 11-12 | 75.3kg Ben Haslam Richie McLernon Listed winner in France who didn’t kick on in trio of starts for Nicky Henderson and has also proved disappointing for current yard. Has big questions to answer.

3 PRESENT FROM DUBAI (IRE) (62) (D) h 10002/24-16 7 11-10 | 74.4kg Richard Phillips Daniel Hiskett (3lb/1kg) Well prepared following 11 months off when making second handicap start a winning one at Uttoxeter in December. No impact at Newbury subsequently but remains with potential after a break. Hood on.

4 FAZAYTE (FR) (29) 954333-43 5 11-5 | 72.1kg Tom Symonds Ben Poste In frame all 4 starts in France, including on hurdling debut. Improved from stable debut when strong-travelling third in a novice at Carlisle last time and form has been boosted since.

5 HALF BOLLY (17) 9515P 4 11-2 | 70.8kg Mark Walford Jamie Hamilton Modest Flat maiden who opened his account at first time of asking over hurdles at Market Rasen. Pulled up at Kelso following a 120-day absence, so something to prove.

6 MCGARRY (IRE) (15) 985504 6 10-13 | 69.4kg Philip Kirby Thomas Dowson Irish point winner who has races in him in this sphere judged some of his showings under Rules and switch to handicaps makes him all the more appealing now.

7 BOBNDAVE (IRE) (228) 996743-3424 8 10-10 | 68.0kg

Sue Smith Sam Coltherd (3lb/1kg) Lightly-raced sort who showed more when hitting the frame twice in handicaps towards the end of last summer but hasn’t been seen since. Not discounted.

8 LUCOU (FR) (14) 962-4266864 4 10-0(9-8) | 63.5kg (60.8kg) Micky Hammond Miss Becky Smith (3lb/1kg) Has some fair form from France, including when second in a claiming hurdle at Compiegne in May. Made a quiet start to life in Britain, though.

8 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:7-2 Fazayte, 4-1 Bobndave, 5-1 Mcgarry, 11-2 Present From Dubai, 11-1 Gennady, 12-1 Lucou, 14-1 Half Bolly, 16-1 Laskadine

TIMEFORM VIEW:FAZAYTE shaped encouragingly (travelled with purpose) when third in a novice at Carlisle last time so, with the form having been boosted, he makes plenty of appeal now embarking on handicaps. Bobndave is a danger if fit and Present From Dubai is still on the radar despite a poor run at Newbury a couple of months ago.

Pace Information: Very Weak

1 BOBO MAC (IRE) (19) s 1002085-1272 9 11-3 | 71.2kg Tom Symonds A. P. Heskin Winning hurdler/chaser who arrives on the back of another good second at Ludlow (23.8f) last month. No reason why he won’t go well again despite conceding weight all round.

2 COMMODORE BARRY (IRE) (80) (D) s+t 992113-22R4 7 10-12 | 68.9kg

Kim Bailey David Bass Did well over hurdles last term, winning 4 times. Definite encouragement over fences this time around, finding 22f an insufficient test at Newbury in December. Cheekpieces go on and yard in form.

3 COOLE HALL (IRE) (13) s+t 99116/P-3222 8 10-12 | 68.9kg Rose Dobbin Craig Nichol Useful novice hurdler in 2017/18 season. Similar level over fences this term, albeit without looking straightforward, runner-up at Catterick (25f) 2 weeks ago. Tongue tie added to cheekpieces now.

3 DECLARED RUNNERS

BETTING FORECAST:5-4 Bobo Mac, 7-4 Commodore Barry, 7-2 Coole Hall

TIMEFORM VIEW:COMMODORE BARRY was strictly below his best when fourth at Newbury in December, yet it’s likely he was faced with an insufficient test of stamina that day and, returning with his yard in good order, he could well be the answer to this small-field puzzle. Bobo Mac is proving largely consistent and rates the chief danger.

1 THE VERY THING (IRE) (42) h 891d537-43PP 6 11-12 | 75.3kg Micky Hammond Alain Cawley Some promise for Olly Murphy last term, first past post (demoted) in 2m Fakenham handicap. Has shown little in 3 starts for current trainer, though.

2 POND ROAD (FR) (26) s 10034583-4P4 6 11-10 | 74.4kg

Kim Bailey David Bass Signs of ability in bumpers/hurdles but hasn’t yet made necessary improvement in handicaps. 3m will suit and represents an in-form yard, so a bigger run could well be forthcoming.

3 SKYLANNA BREEZE (IRE) (26) b 9007886 5 11-9 | 73.9kg Jonjo O’Neill Jonjo O’Neill Jr. Showed a bit in his 3 qualifying runs in November/December and caught the eye on handicap debut at Huntingdon last month. Should have more to offer but stamina for 3m is an unknown. Blinkers on.

4 BEE CROSSING (11) s 9527/53-669P 9 11-5 | 72.1kg Michael Scudamore Brendan Powell Point winner who showed fair form over hurdles in 2017/18 but has struggled in light career since, beaten a long way all 3 chase starts. Down in the weights but has a lot to prove.

5 ON WE GO (IRE) (14) s 9806451069 7 11-2 | 70.8kg Kenny Johnson Sean Quinlan Maiden in points who confirmed previous hurdles promise when scoring from 2 lb lower mark at Ayr (21.4f) in January. Hasn’t threatened since.

6 INCERTAINE (54) b+t 9469060-166 7 11-2 | 70.8kg Tom Gretton Brian Hughes Much improved when opening her account under this pilot at Market Rasen (23f) in November. Hasn’t gone on from that, sixth of 12 over this C&D in January. Blinkers replace cheekpieces.

7 BLACK OPIUM (54) 776-7647 6 11-0 | 69.9kg Tina Jackson Ross Chapman Well held in bumpers and no impact in novice hurdles. Opening handicap mark is too high.

8 ESPOIR MORIVIERE (FR) (26) 997370-32P4 6 10-3 | 64.9kg Rose Dobbin Craig Nichol Found some improvement when placed in heavy-ground handicaps on first 2 outings this term. Also ran respectably when fourth at Sedgefield a month ago. Not taken lightly.

BETTING FORECAST:5-2 Pond Road, 10-3 Espoir Moriviere, 5-1 Skylanna Breeze, 9-1 Incertaine, 12-1 Bee Crossing, 16-1 On We Go, 16-1 The Very Thing, 28-1 Black Opium

TIMEFORM VIEW:A thorough test of stamina is exactly what POND ROAD needs and with his yard in excellent order, he could be the way to go. Espoir Moriviere ought to make his presence felt, while Skylanna Breeze is the potential improver in the race.

2 CAROLE’S TEMPLER (46) 867 5 11-0 | 69.9kg Amy Murphy Jack Quinlan Yard knows the family well but this one looked badly in need of the experience first time up at Chepstow 7 weeks ago, pulling hard and soon beaten from the turn.

4 GLENCASSLEY (IRE) (38) 10055 5 11-0 | 69.9kg Charlie Longsdon Aidan Coleman Half-brother to a bumper winner and has shown fairly useful form in a couple of decent events this term, chasing home a couple who ran in the Champion Bumper at Newbury last time. Sets the standard.

5 HIGH MOON (20) 885 5 11-0 | 69.9kg Tim Easterby Jamie Hamilton Half-brother to bumper winner/useful staying jumper No Comment. Hinted at ability on debut at Market Rasen 3 weeks ago, plugging on, and is entitled to progress.

6 PARTY FUZZ (62) 9320 5 11-0 | 69.9kg

Kim Bailey David Bass Cost plenty and shaped well on debut at Hereford in November. Poor in stronger race at Newbury since but retains potential for in-form yard.

7 NO ANXIETY (IRE) 92 4 10-7 | 66.7kg Jamie Snowden Daryl Jacob Presenting gelding. Dam bumper/2m-19f hurdle winner (stayed 21f). Plenty to like on paper.
