he University of Ilorin campus will be literally set aglow throughout this week

(Monday, October19, 2015 – Friday, October 23, 2015) as the institution's

t h s t4 0 a n n i v e r s a r y a n d 3 1 Convocation ceremonies get underway.

A city-wide road show heralded the commencement of the celebrations last Thursday (October 15, 2015) as students and staff members of the University drove in a procession round Ilorin town in a carnival-like fashion.

Already, the entire campus is wearing a new look for the twin events during which the University will play host to important personalities from within and outside the country. Notable among the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion are President Muhammadu Buhari; the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama; the Emir of Katsina, HRH (Dr.) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, who will be formally installed the Chancellor of the University and conferred with the H o n o r a r y D o c t o r o f L a w (LL.D)Degree of the University; the immediate past Chancellor, HRH (Dr.) Benjamin Ikenchuku, the Dein of Agbor; Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, some other state governors who are likely to accompany President Buhari as well as the Emir of Ilorin, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu Gambari.

This week's edition of your darling Unilorin Bulletin can be aptly described as the “Anniversary Edition”. An unusual column, 'SPECIAL SPOTLIGHT ON

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI', is published in a four-page pull-out (pp5-8) as part of the total package for the celebration of this epochal landmark. Even though the list of featured alumni is not mutually exclusive, it is a fair representation of some of the products of this University that are making the institution proud in their chosen careers.

In line with this, Town & Gown, this week, focuses on two of our shining stars: the hard-working Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulfattah Ahmed; and the Midas at the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), Mr. Babs Omotowa. The two are very distinguished alumni of this great citadel of learning and they are really making the University proud. Indeed, they are worthy ambassadors of their alma mater.
