    General InformationCongratulations on your choice of aTrane chilled water fancoil system.These systems have been carefullydesigned and manufactured under

    strict Trane Worldwide QualityStandards to provide you with yearsof comfortable, convenient cooling orheating/cooling with a minimum ofservice.

    This Owner Manual is given as a guideto start-up, operation and periodicmaintenance by the user of CFEAchilled water fancoil system. It doesnot contain the full service proceduresnecessary for the continuedsuccessful operation of thisequipment. The services of aqualified service technician shouldbe employed, through themaintenance contract with areputable service company.

    Read it completely before doinganything with your air conditioningsystem.

    About this ManualCautions appear at appropriate placesin this instruction manual. Yourpersonal safety and the properoperation of this machine require thatyou follow them carefully. The TraneCompany assumes no liability for theinappropriate usage of the unit.

    About the UnitThese CFEA units are assembled,pressure tested, dehydrated, chargedand run tested before shipment. Theinformation contained in this manual

    applies to CFEA units are designed tooperate in cooling mode only and incooling or heating modes.

    Trane CFEA series of chilled waterfancoil systems offer three styles ofinstallation: floor, low wall and underceiling with both LCD wireless remotecontrol or wired control. Trane CFEAseries provide flexibility and savings.Note: For model CFEA14, CFEA16and CFEA 20, there are only two stylesof installation: under ceiling and lowwall.

    ReceptionOn arrival, inspect the unit beforesigning the delivery note. Specify any

    damage of the unit on the deliverynote, and send a registered letter ofprotest to the last carrier of the goodswithin 72 hours of delivery. Notify thedealer at the same time.

    The unit should be totally inspectedwithin 7 days of delivery. If anyconcealed damage is discovered,send a registered letter of protest tothe carrier within 7 days of deliveryand notify the dealer.

    situations which, if not avoided,COULD result in death or seriousinjury.

    Control Switch

    Four lamps on the unit show operatingstatus.

    1. FAN LampThis lamp lights when the fan isoperating.

    2. COOLING LampThis lamp lights when the unit is inCOOL or DRY mode of operation.

    3. HEATING LampThis lamp lights when the unit is inHEAT mode of operation, or heaterON in the HEAT mode of AUTOmode (light does not function onunits without electric heat)

    4. TIMER LampThis lamp lights when the systemis being controlled by the timer.

    One Touch Control Switch (A)This button is used for adjusting

    operation without remote control unit.

    This press switch is for selecting thesystem mode of operation FANCOOL DRY (HEAT)(AUTO) OFF (HEAT and AUTOare available only in Cooling/Heating Modes)

    Fan speed will operate in AUTOmode; temperature setpoint will bemaintained at 24

    O

    C.

    Note: This press switch is startedfrom COOL mode (If the system is off)and operated sequencely as above(If the system is on).The One-Touch Control mode iscancelled by the signal of the remotecontrol unit.

    Setting ClockTo set clock, press CLOCK buttonuntil CLOCK symbol is blinking.The current time value can be set bypressing HOUR or MIN (minute)

    button.

    Note : During the clock symbol isblinking (the time valve has not beenchanged), if there are no other buttonspressed within 10 seconds, the LCDdisplay will return to show settingtemperature when the handset isunder POWER ON status, or to showcurrent time value when the handsetis under POWER OFF status.

    Timer OperationOnce you select the timer operation,the settings are saved in the remotecontrol. Thereafter, the air conditionerwill start operating under the sameconditions when you simply push thePOWER button of the remote control.

    Setting STOP TimerYou can set the STOP timer to stopthe unit automatically at any desiredtime up to 24 hour ahead.- Press STOP button to set time to

    turn the unit OFF. The OFF symbolis starting to blink.

    - Press HOUR or MIN buttons tochange the time (pass this step, ifno time change is required).

    At this stage, if there are no otherbuttons pressed within 10 seconds,the LCD display will return to showsetting temperature or current timevalve. No setting is changed.

    - Press SEND or STOP buttonsto transmit the signal to the airconditioner. The set time will stopblinking.

    - The unit will stop automatically atset time of OFF timer.

    - To cancel the STOP timer, pressSTOP button again.

    Setting START TimerYou can set the START timer to startthe unit automatically at any desiredtime up to 24 hour ahead.- Press START button to set time to

    turn the unit ON, the ON symbol isstarting to blink.- Press HOUR or MIN buttons to

    change the time (pass this step, ifno time change is required).

    At this stage, if there are no otherbuttons pressed within 10 seconds,the LCD display will return to showsetting temperature or current timevalve. No setting is changed.

    - Press SEND or START buttons totransmit the signal to the airconditioner. The set time will stopblinking.

    - The unit is now standby for startingautomatically at set time of STARTtimer.

    - To cancel the START timer,press START button again.

    Note : In case of power failure,the START/STOP timer will beautomatically cancelled as there isno electricity in the air-conditioner.(But the set time on the remote unitis still displayed due to the batteries).If any button or the remote unit ispressed when the electricity is backto normal, this feature will bere-activated.

    SLEEP ModeThis feature automatically adjusts thetemperature setting to provideincreased comfort and save energy(The SLEEP display on LCD will

    disappear after 1 hour).

    COOLING Mode- Press SLEEP button, one hour

    after pressing, the air conditionerwill automatically raise the settemperature by 1

    C.

    SWEEP OperationThe SWEEP function will operate ineither cooling or heating mode torapidly distribute conditioned airinto the room.

    - The supply air grille will be fullyclosed when the unit is off.- When the unit is turned on, the

    grille will open to the fully openposition.

    - After the unit has been turned on,pressing the SWEEP button willsweep the supply air grille backand forth to rapidly distribute andcool (or heat) the room.

    - If the unit is in SWEEP mode,pressing the sweep button willreturn the grille to the fully openposition.

    - Press the POWER button while theunit is in operation, will turn off theunit and the supply air grille willautomatically close.

    LOUVER OperationThe direction of the airflow can becontrolled.- Press LOUVER button to adjust the

    angle of the blade to control thedirection of the air flow.

    Note : The sweep and louveroperations are optional functions ofCFEA04-CFEA08. These operationsare not available in the modelsthat have cooling capacity more than24,000 Btu.

    HEATING Mode- Press SLEEP button, one hour

    after pressing, the air conditionerwill automatically reduce the settemperature by 1

    C.(The SLEEP display on LCD willdisappear after 1 hour).

    automatically from high to mediumand low according to the differencebetween room and settingtemperature.

    System Operation

    Notes: If TIMER LED is off, HOUR and

    HOUR button do not function. If TIMER LED is on, pressing

    HOUR and HOUR button

    will change display time setting toshow hour set left with blinkinglight. If press HOURand HOURbutton will change display to newtime setting.

    If the air conditioner stops bypower failure, setting of timer on/offwill be cancelled.

    If POWER button is pressed duringsetting if timer, setting of timeron/off will be cancelled and remotewill turn on/off air conditioner asnormal.

    If TIMER button is pressed againduring setting of time (TIMER LEDis lit), setting time will be cancelled.

    Display Unit

    The following LEDs are used toindicates the status,

    A LED (in Fan Button) shows whenthe fan speed is put in AUTO mode,SLEEP LED shows the system isput in sleep mode,TIMER LED shows when set the timeron/off. FAN/COOL/HEAT LED showsthe operating mode of the airconditioner.

    Temperature Display (7-segmentLED, 2 digits) show- The room temperature.- The setting temperature while

    blinking.- RE, show the room sensor is

    open or short circuit.- FE show the freeze sensor is

    open or short circuit.- HF show the heating system is

    supposed to be fail. (For Cooling/Heating model)

    - Fr show the evaporator coil isfreeze.

    When press the Fan Button to selectthe fan speed. The display show thestatus below.- F3 show the fan speed is high.- F2 show the fan speed is

    medium.- F1 show the fan speed is low.- FA show the fan speed is put inAUTO mode.

    System Features1. Watchdog

    There is a circuit in the system towatch the operation of themicroprocessor.

    2. Non-Volatile Memory(Auto Restart)

    After power interruption, the controlwill resume its operation with samesetting parameters except thoserelated to the time.

    3. Pre-heat/Post-heat (Heat Model)The facility to prevent the fan coilblowing cold draught when theindoor coil temperature is low.

    4. Freeze Function (Optional)The facility to stop the compressorif the indoor coil temperature isbelow 0

    O

    C.

    Operating PrecautionsThis system must be installed properlyby a qualified installer in accordancewith installation instructions.

    Temperature setting is adjustedback and forth.

    ON/OFF switch is turned ONandOFF.

    Room temperature reaches theset point.

    Power failure.

    Once any of the above conditionsoccurs, the anti-recycle timer willstart preventing the operation ofthe outdoor unit for approximately3 minutes.

    Freeze ProtectionThe system is protected against lowindoor coil temperatures. Undercertain conditions, the COOL/DRYLED will blink indicating the protective

    function has been activated. There isno need to adjust the system.

    Stop the air conditioner at onceif any the following occurs:- The power cord is too hot to be

    touched by hand.- The insulation of the power cord is

    exposed at any point- The fuse is blown or circuit breaker

    trips frequently.- The functions of the switches are

    inaccurate.

    Operating air conditioner safety.- Do not insert a bar or similar

    object into the supply air outlet.In particular, advise small childrennot to insert anything in the grille.

    - Do not pour water directly on theair conditioner to clean it. If theair conditioner is operating as wet,grounding may occur, damagingthe unit.

    - Adjust the air flow so it does notblow directly on room occupants.

    - Do not use flammable sprays nearthe air conditioner because ofdanger of fire.

    - Do not use a steel or copper wirein place of fuses.

    Adjust Air Flow Direction- The supply air grille may be

    adjusted left, right, up or downmanually.

    - Adjust the air flow direction

    properly, otherwise, it may causediscomfort and make the roomtemperature uneven.

    Adjust Air Flow Direction(with sweep option)- The sweep motor will sweep the

    supply air grille upward anddownward.

    - For left and right air flow, thesupply air grille can be adjustedmanually.

    - Do not inspect or service theair conditioner while it is operating.Turn off the power supply beforedoing any inspection or servicework.

    - The power cord should be keptaway from furniture with sharpcorners. It may cause fire orelectric shock.

    - When the air conditioner will notused for a long time, be sure to turnOFF the power supply.

    Troubleshooting

    Before calling for service,please check the following.

    The air conditioner does notoperate at all:

    - Check if the control ON/OFFswitch is OFF. Turn the switch toON.

    - Check whether the fuse has beenblown or circuit breaker thrown.Set the ON/OFF Control Switch toOFF, and turn on the circuit breakeror replace to a new fuse.

    - Check whether the power supplyis interrupted. Wait until the poweris resupplied and then operate theair conditioner.

    Cooling is insufficient:- Check whether the air filter is

    clogged. Clean it.- Check whether the thermostat

    setting is too high. Set thethermostat to lower temperature.

    - Check whether windows or doorsare opened. If opened, close them.

    - Check whether there are sourcesof heat in the room, cooling is lesseffective.

    - Check whether the return air grilleor the supply air grille on theindoor unit and outdoor unitare blocked. If they are blocked,remove obstacles to permit air

    passage properly.- Check whether the fan speed is setat low. Set the fan switch fromLOW to MED or HIGH

    Heating is insufficient:- Check to see if the air filters are

    clogged with dust or debris. Cleanthe air filters.

    - Check to see if the thermostatsetting is too low. Set thethermostat a higher temperature.

    - Check to see if windows or doorsare open. If they are open, close.
