Using Facebook Live

Teaching over Facebook is a great way to reach your learners on a platform many of them already use. Facebook has tools you can use for real-time teaching and your learners can use on their own time. One of those tools is Facebook Live.

First, let’s log into Facebook. In your address bar, type www.facebook.com and press Enter on your keyboard.

Never used Facebook before? No problem! Check out our Facebook lesson plan for help.

Real-time teaching with Facebook Live

You can use Facebook Live to stream a live video of your lesson to your learners. With Facebook Live, you can use a webcam or the camera on your phone to film yourself teaching, and broadcast your video live to your learners.

All your learners need is the link to your Facebook Live video. They don’t need a Facebook account. But if your learners have a Facebook account, they can participate in your presentation by posting comments in your Facebook Group.

On the right side of your Facebook Group page, click on the Create Post button.

Then click on the red Live Video button. If you don’t see it, click on the 3 dots on the right to find it.

Alaina MacDonaldAfter you’ve gone live, or scheduled a live video, Facebook will make a post in your group.

When you’re finished entering information, click Schedule Live Video. When you schedule a video, Facebook will post the information in your group. Everyone in your Facebook Group will receive a notification about your post.

Tip: Facebook recommends that you start your live video 20 minutes before your start time to make sure your camera and sound are working.

You need to go live within 10 minutes of the scheduled time or Facebook will cancel your video.

Using polls with Facebook Live

You can use polls when running a Facebook Live video. Everyone in your video stream will receive a poll they can answer immediately.

From your live video streaming page, click on Polls. You can create a question and possible answers. When using polls in a Facebook Live video, you can only add 4 possible answers.

After you’ve typed in your questions and answers, click Save. Then click on Publish Poll.
