Applications Open for Australia Awards Scholarships

I am pleased to inform you that applications for the Australia Awards Scholarships inthe 2018 selection roundl2019 intake open 1 February and will close on 30 April 2018.The application period is one month longer than in previous years.

Applicants for the Australia Awards Scholarships should apply online at the websitewww.australiaawardsvietnam.org.

Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by theAustralian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development.Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drivechange and help build enduring people-ta-people links with Australia.

Scholarships are available for outstanding Vietnamese candidates for Masters-levelstudy in Australia commencing in 2019. Please note that PhD scholarships will not be

available this round.

Successful candidates will study at a university of their choice in Australia in priorityareas for Vietnam's development: governance and economic growth, transport, waterand sanitation, education, gender equality, agriculture and rural development, regionalstability and human rights, disability, and climate change. The scholarships are for full-

time study.

Applicants with a disability and applicants from disadvantaged rural areas are givenpriority. Out of 60 awards offered in last year's round, two awards were given toapplicants with disabilities and 14 to applicants from disadvantaged rural areas.

Up to 12 months' intensive English training in Vietnam is provided, if required, to help.awardees meet the English language requirements for their chosen course in

Australia.

Australia's international development assistance in Vietnamhelps promote prosperity, reduce poverty, and enhancepolitical stability.Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious internationalawards offered by the Australian Government to the nextgeneration of global leaders for development. Through studyand research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge todrive change and help build enduring people-ta-people linkswith Australia.Applicants are assessed on their professional and personalqualities, academic competence and, most importantly, theirpotential to impact on development challenges in Vietnam.

Applications are strongly encouraged from people withdisability, from disadvantaged rural areas and from ethnicminorities. A support scheme is available to assist equalparticipation for these applicants.

Priority fields of study

The priority areas of study for Vietnam are:

Governance and Economic Growth (economics,competition, international trade, public policy, publicfinance management, corporate finance, law to supporteconomic integration, entrepreneurship and innovation)

Transport (project management and financing, trafficforecasting, transport engineering, social andenvironmental safeguards. urban transport planning andmanagement, transport master planning, public-privatepartnership, transport economics, road safety and audit)

Water and sanitation (water management, waterengineering, water quality and supply systems, waterand waste water) .

Level of study

Australia Awards Scholarships provide citizens of Vietnamwith the opportunity to obtain a postgraduate qualification atan Australian tertiary institution.

Australia Awards will be available in Vietnam for Masterdegrees commencing in 2019. The awards are for centraland provincial agency officials (including massorganisations), staff of NGOs and Vietnamese companies,academics and researchers. Split courses in Internationaland Development Economics, and Environmental andResource Economics are available. Australia Awards benefits

Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for the minimumperiod necessary for the individual to complete theacademic program specified by the Australian educationinstitution, including any preparatory training.

The selection process

Following eligibility checking, applications will beshortlisted. The selection process will also include aninterview in English for all those shortlisted. Applicants willbe assessed against the following criteria:
