ENTRY INFORULES & REGULATIONS - ENTRIES

All entries and booth setups will be received in the exhibit hallSunday, September 23, from 1 to 4 pm and Monday, September 24,10 am to 6 pm.

All entries must be received by 6:00 PM on Monday, September 24All booth exhibits are to be completed by 6:00 PM on Monday,September 24.

All entries, contests, and activities are open to anyone interested inparticipating. No entry fee is charged in any department.

Articles must be entered in the name of the person producing orowning them.

Each exhibitor may make only one entry under one premium num-ber. (A premium number is the letter-number combination [example:D-23] listed beside each entry description.)

Adults are not permitted to exhibit their work under the name of ajunior. However, a youth may exhibit in an adult category.A young person's exhibit should be the young person's work.

Non-compete policy for children: Any items exhibited by youthunder 9 years of age should be entered in the appropriate juniordivision category but will receive a ribbon and $1.00 cash award forparticipation. Age of exhibitor is their age on September 25, 2012.Where two or more exhibits appear to be identical, only one will beconsidered for prizes.

Any article previously exhibited will not be eligible.Only articles listed in this catalog may be entered for prizes.

Premiums will be paid for cut flowers and potted plants grown byamateurs. Professionals will not be allowed to exhibit in horticulture or arrangements.

All exhibits, individual and booth, are to be removed on Sunday,September 30 between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM and Monday, October1 between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The removal of any exhibits priorto October 1 will result in the forfeiture of any premium payment andmay prohibit participation in future fairs.

Premium awards on individual and booth exhibits will be paid fromthe manager's window in the exhibit hall during these times.The Faircannot provide protection for any exhibits not removed by 2:00 PMon October 1, 2012.

Every reasonable care will be taken by the officials of the fair forprotection of the property on exhibition from loss or damage.However, the fair will not be responsible in the case of loss or damage to exhibits from any cause; and upon this condition only areentries received. The fair will not be responsible for any accident ordamage that might occur to person or property.

The decision of the awarding judges shall be final. The exhibit hallwill be closed to visitors during judging.

Articles will be judged by merit. Premiums will not be awarded toany article because of its mere presence. Unless it is premium quality, no premium will be awarded.

Premiums will be paid on the basis of the records of judges and noton ribbons in case ribbons are misplaced. An infraction of rules willincur forfeiture of the prize awarded to the exhibitor.

All officers and employees will be properly badged and will bepassed on their badges; all others must have tickets or passes andrespect the gatekeeper and officers.

No pedaling, hawking, vending or distributing of advertising matteror side shows will be allowed on the grounds at any time except by special license from the manager.

How can I participate as an exhibitor in the Vance County Regional Fair? Entering items in the fair is easy and fun. It is also a great way to join your friendsand neighbors in a demonstration of support for North Carolina agriculture.

So what can I enter?Simply browse through this exhibitor guide and identify items that interest you.Perhaps you have a garden in the backyard and would like to enter some squashor corn. How about registering one of your favorite jams or jellies. Do you have anamateur artist or photographer in the family? Do you enjoy knitting or making yourown clothes? We have categories for these and many more.

How do I register?Bring your entries to the fairgrounds on the dates designated in the rules and regulations. Making a list of the category numbers and names will save time at registration.

What else do I need to know?The rules and regulations on this page will provide you with additional details regarding exhibitor entry as well as general fair policies.

Wild World of Animals has appeared on national television shows such as David

Letterman, Fox, and Good Morning America. The show is a fast-paced, entertaining,

and amazing educational program that features a variety of reptiles, birds, and

mammals. Incredible animals such as the American alligator, alligator snapping turtle,

albino monocle cobra, reticulated python, European eagle owl, blue and gold macaw,

opossum, binturong, spot-nose guenon (monkey) and African spotted leopard are a

part of this fantastic show. 02

General Show Rules & Regulations1. Exhibitors must be ages 5*-18 years of age as of January 1, 2012.Each youth must be able to handle their animal in the show ring. Noadults are allowed in the show ring. *Youth ages 5-8 years will not par-ticipate in peer to peer competition. Therefore youth ages 5-8 years willonly participate in showmanship classes. Each will receive a participa-tion ribbon plus $5.00. 2. Animals must be owned by the exhibitor by August 11, 2012. (This is60 days before the NC State Fair. In order for participants to show at theState Fair and to sell animals at State Fair, animal projects must beginby this date.) 3. All animals exhibited must meet NC Health requirements. Exhibitorsare responsible for obtaining health papers and should have them avail-able for inspection. 4. If participant has more than one animal in a class, the second animalmust be shown by a participant approved by the show officials.5. All animals will be checked-in on September 29th, between noon and1:00 PM. Market animals will be weighed at this time. 6. Major fitting should be done prior to arrival at fair. No wash facilitiesare available. No animal pens are available. 7. All animals must be halter broken. Animals that are unruly mayendanger the safety of exhibitors and may be asked to leave the ring. 8. Closing date for entries shall be September 14, 2012. Each entrymust have approval and signature of county 4-H agent, livestock agent,or high school Vo-Ag teacher in the participant'shome county. Entries must be mailed to Vance County 4-H Agent, 305Young Street, Henderson, NC 27536, and received no later thanSeptember 14, 2012.9. Exhibitors are solely responsible for feed and care of animals duringfair. Each exhibitor assumes all liabilities in case of sickness, death, orinjury to his/her animals. The management, exhibitors, and ownersassume no liability for injury from any case to individuals or property.(There is no policy for compensation to loss of any animal on the farm.) 10. In cases where questions arise that are not specifically covered bythese rules, decisions of the show committee are final. 11. Animals must be in good condition and free of disease. Junior Market Lamb Show Rules & Regulations1. Wethers (castrated male) of any meat breed may be shown. (Noteonly wethers will be allowed in this class at the NC State Fair.) 2. Poultry Show Rules and Regulations1. All poultry exhibited at the Vance County Fair shall have been in thepossession of the exhibitor for sixty days or more prior to the date of theFair and must have been acquired through the area 4-H Pullet Chainproject in 2012.2. All chickens for exhibition at the fair will originate from U.S. pullorum-typhoid clean or equivalent flocks or have a negative pullorum-typhoidtest within 90 days of admission to the Fair, or the test requirements maybe satisfied by a negative test conducted by an official state tester at thetime the birds are brought to the Fair.3. No poultry shall have received a live virus vaccine within 30 days priorto the fair poultry show.4. All birds must be identified with tamperproof bands. Bands placed onbirds tested at the Fairgrounds by state testers will satisfy this require-ment.5. Poultry entered at the Fair are subject to examination (including bloodtest and swabs) by a representative of the N. C. Department ofAgriculture.6. Birds will not be accepted which are infected with, or showing any clin-ical signs of, an infectious or communicable disease, or are infested withlice and/or mites.7. Participants in the area 4-H Pullet Chain will present three birds perbreed.8. Awards will be presented at the Poultry Show for the chickens pos-sessing the most desirable production characteristics.9. There will be a showmanship contest during which the youth will bejudged on their knowledge of poultry production and their familiarity withtheir flock.10. There will be no sale associated with this show.11. The exhibitor will provide any feed and water necessary the day ofthe show.12. A limited number of cages will be provided. If you wish to reserve acage, you must indicate this on your entry form. Otherwise, provide yourown cage.
