MEN’S SOCCER Cleveland State returns to action on Wednesday (Sept. 26) when the Vikings head to Cincinnati for a 7:00 p.m. con-test. CSU enters the match at 4-4 this season after splitting two matches last week. The Vikings earned a 2-0 win at Duquesne on Wednes-day, using a pair of late goals by Aaron Adkins and Zach Ellis-Hayden to earn the win. CSU then dropped its Horizon League opener at Detroit, 3-1, on Saturday (Sept. 22). Admir Suljevic scored on a pen-alty kick late in the match. Ellis-Hayden’s goal on Wednesday allowed him to take over the team lead in points with six. He is tied for the team-lead with two goals with Suljevic and Adkins. Eight different players have scored a goal for CSU this year, while seven dif-ferent players have assists.

Volleyball Returns Home for Two Matches The Vikings will return to the Woodling Gymnasium for just their second homestand of the season this weekend, hosting Loyola and UIC in Horizon League action. CSU will host the Ramblers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 28) and will then face the Flames at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 29). CSU opened league play last weekend, posting victories at Green Bay and at Mil-waukee. Saturday’s win at Milwaukee snapped a 26-match Horizon League win streak for the Panthers, while it also marked the first win over UWM for Cleveland State since the 2009 season. In the two matches last weekend, Kara Koch had a team-high 36 kills, while Marie Frease was close behind with 30. Koch also notched 34 digs on the weekend, posting her sixth and seventh double-doubles on the season. Frease has now recorded double-digit kills in seven straight matches, and leads the league with a .338 hitting percentage on the season.

MEN’S TENNIS CSU will participate in its final fall tournament before the ITA Midwest Regional next weekend, taking part in the Ball State Invitational. The BSU Invite is a three-day tournament with action running from Friday (Sept. 28) through Sunday (Sept. 30). The Vikings were led by strong doubles play last weekend at the Purdue Invita-tional, as Ali Shabib and Niklas Jonsson claimed the championship in Flight A action, and Jorg van der Vloet and Matt Kuelker earned the title in the Flight B draw. Shabib and Jonsson are now a perfect 7-0 on the season, while Kuelker and van der Vloet extended their undefeated streak to five matches. The trio of Joe VanMeter, Matt Ford and Nolan Marks each picked up two singles wins over the weekend, as Ford now leads the Vikings with a 6-1 mark on the season and VanMeter has a 5-2 overall record.

WOMEN’S TENNIS The Vikings will take a week off from competition this weekend, and will return to the courts on Friday, Oct. 5 at the Michigan State Invitational. The MSU Invite will be the final fall tournament for CSU before the Vikings take part in the ITA Midwest Regional. Kara Sherwood and Ellen Folkers each won their re-spective singles flights at the BGSU Invitational last weekend, posting 3-0 records in singles play. Sherwood won the title in the Flight 4 draw, while Folkers picked up her championship in the Flight 5 bracket. The duo also teamed up to play No. 2 doubles for the Vikings, reaching the championship match be-fore losing their first contest. Folkers and Sherwood lead the Vikings with four wins each on the young season, while they are one of two Viking doubles teams to have two wins on the year – joined by Folkers and Mengdi Liu.

SWIMMING & DIVING The Cleveland State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host their Intersquad Alumni/Splash Bash on Saturday at Busbey Natatorium. Action is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. Both the men’s and women’s teams will open its season at the Dennis Stark Relays at Notre Dame on Oct. 12 at 5:00 p.m. w

WOMEN’S SOCCER CSU returns home to host Valparaiso in the Vikings first league contest at Krenzler Field on Friday (Sept. 28) at 7:00 p.m. The Vikings dropped two matches last weekend, fall-ing at Loyola (1-0) on Friday and dropping a 2-1 decision at Duquesne on Sunday. Vickie Havas scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season at Duquesne and now leads the team with 12 points, which also ranks second in the Horizon League.

WOMEN’S GOLF CSU returns to action on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 24-25) when the Vikings host the CSU Invitational at Pine Hills G.C. The Vikings finished fourth at the Chicago State Invita-tional on Sept. 17-18, carding rounds of 316 and 321. Shelly Ford finished tied for ninth after rounds of 80 and 76 for a 36-hole total of 156. The 76 was a career low.

CROSS COUNTRY Cleveland State will return to Cedarville, Ohio this weekend for the All-Ohio Championship on Saturday, Sept. 29. The women’s championship 5K race will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course. Last weekend the Vikings placed fourth as a team at the Otterbein Invitational, as three runners recorded personal-best times. Katie Webb was among the runners that set career-bests, finishing in a time of 19:53, the first sub 20-minute 5K of her career. Maddie Korak (20:52) and Amanda Kalain (22:13) also recorded personal-best times, while Tori Holt led CSU with an eighth place overall finish (19:23) and earned Horizon League Runner of the Week honors.

MEN’S GOLF The Vikings are back in action next Monday and Tues-day (Oct. 1-2) when CSU hosts its own invitational at Canter-bury G.C. CSU was last in action when the Vikings won the John Piper Invitational on Sept. 17-18, carding rounds of 296-291-299 (886) to defeat Oakland by five shots. Andrew Bailey finished third overall with rounds of 73-74-72 (219), while Michael Klaric was one shot back at 220, firing rounds of 79-71-70. It was CSU’s first tournament title since the 2011 Horizon League Championship.

laSt WeekKoch led the Vikings to a pair of road wins to open Horizon League play over the weekend, notching double-doubles in both matches - her sixth and seventh of the season. In Friday’s four-set win at Green Bay, Koch recorded 19 kills and 24 digs and came back with 17 kills and 10 digs in Saturday’s sweep at preseason favorite Milwaukee. The win snapped UWM’s 26-match win streak against Horizon League foes. Koch leads the team with 269 kills this year, an average of 4.89 per set.
