Artistic TastingsArtistic Tastings was a huge success! The atmosphere was perfect, venue was amazing and all the feedback we have gotten has been terrific. We had 14 artists with work on display, 13 restaurants/beverage vendors and plenty of amazing silent auction items available! The food and drinks around the room were phenomenal and all started with a speciality martini sponsored by Radiance Medspa. We also had Sea Dog Brewing, Barley Mow and St. Pete Brew throughout the room. An added piece this year was the interactive art provided by Canvas Zoo that will be on display at Countryside Mall for the Clearwater Centennial, guests got to add their mark on the piece throughout the night. The room was also filled with wonderful music by Erica DiCeglie.
Thank you to our sponsors: Bright House Networks, Tampa Bay Times, Clearwater Gas System, Radiance Medspa, Solar Sanitation and Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa!
Congratulations!

BIG Win for St. Pete-Clearwater International (PIE)
St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport received 1st place in the annual ACI-NA Excellence in Airport Marketing and Communications Contest for Partnering with Carriers for its partnership with Allegiant Air in co-sponsoring the Tampa Bay Rays professional baseball team for the 2013 season. The promotion featured co-branded advertising in all 81 home games, including “Pop-Fly Fridays”
with a lucky contestant given the opportunity to catch pop-fly balls to win Allegiant Air tickets.
PIE also received a 2nd place award in Newsletters for its bi-annual Fly2PIE News and 3rd place for Websites. PIE debuted its new logo and rebranding in February 2013 and its redesigned Fly2PIE
News published in the spring. A new mobile responsive website launched in October 2013. The airport worked with FKQ Advertising & Marketing on both projects.
ACI-NA revealed the winners in 20 categories at the ACI-NA Marketing & Communications Conference in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This year, 56 airports submitted 287 entries, with 31 North American airports winning awards. ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke said “The results…vividly illustrate the innovation and creativity needed in telling the important story of airports. From our large hubs to our small airports, the imagination and skill on display throughout all the entries of this year’s contest are testament to the commitment airports make to engaging and connecting with
the communities that they connect to the rest of the world.”
Airport Director Noah Lagos said “I am very proud of our airport team and our partnerships. The Allegiant Air/
Tampa Bay Rays promotion was a creative and fun way to feature a leisure service airline at an easy, relaxed airport
with America’s favorite pastime, baseball. Additionally, our website (www.fly2pie.com) and newsletter (Fly2PIE News)
are our primary way to connect with our passengers and our community. Receiving recognition by our peers in the
airport industry is very rewarding.”
The complete list of winning entries is available at http://www.aci-na.org/2014-marcomm-contest-winners.

Yacht StarShip Dining Cruises dedicated its new addition to its fleet of dining yachts serving the Tampa Bay region at a recent ceremony at the Clearwater Municipal Marina. The 92 foot long Yacht Sensation, which can accommodate 128 passengers, will be based out of the Clearwater Municipal Marina.
Yacht Sensation is the latest addition to Yacht StarShip Dining Cruises, making it the largest fleet of luxury dining yachts in Florida according to a press release. The new vessel arrived in Tampa in May 2014 after a 12-day river cruise that originated in La Crosse,
Wisconsin. Yacht Sensation was greeted and escorted into its new homeport with a traditional water cannon display from Tampa’s premier tugboat, Patriot.
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to expand our business with the addition of the Yacht Sensation, allowing us to serve our guests in Clearwater Beach and Pinellas County with luxury yacht charters for private parties on a full-time basis,” said owner Troy Manthey in the press release.
Joining Manthey and the StarShip leadership for the dedication were Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos, Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce Vice President Brooke Boccacino, Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce President Robin Sollie and Liz Lajoy of the Clearwater Beach Chamber of Commerce.
The City of Clearwater was chartered as a municipality on May 27, 1915 and plans are underway to celebrate the city’s centennial, May 27, 2015.
To get everyone to start thinking about the centennial, the city is posting a countdown clock on its website, myclearwater.com and unveiling the centennial logo. A contest was held to design a centennial logo and artist Michael O’Connell was selected as the winner. An historical centennial book will bepublished, and the city will celebrate throughout the year. The centennial events will be posted on thecity’s website and on the Facebook page as they are finalized.

Sparks can fly in any “he said, she said” discussion, but two businesspeople who squared off on the topic of how men and women negotiate were largely in agreement. Being certain of your own position and abilities going into talks, while also being able to learn from turn-downs, are both vital qualities, said Sandy Soto, vice president, executive talent acquisition, at HSN Inc., and T. Gene Evans, senior vice president, retail banking director, Florida Region, USAmeriBank. Soto and Evans talked about each gender’s negotiating styles during an AchieveHERS lunch, in a discussion moderated by Brenda Jacobsen, CEO, Lakeside Occupational Medical Center.
Confidence is key to any “ask”, Soto said. “Confidence is one of the things that women lack most when they go into a negotiation.” A no answer isn’t always bad, if you can learn from it, she said. No answers often eventually will turn into yes responses, Evans said. “You don’t know if you don’t ask,” Evans said.
Men tend to be bigger risk-takers in asking for a promotion, while women aren’t always as willing to step out of their comfort zones, Soto said. While it’s important not to discount success, sometimes men are overconfident of their own abilities, Evans said. One of the toughest things to do is ask for more compensation – whether it’s for salary, benefits or vacation, Jacobsen said.
Soto offered several tips:• Know who you are going to be meeting with, and prepare.• Keep emotion out of it. Talk about factual information that speaks to your accomplishments and how that impacts
the team.• Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Speak to your own merits.• Women often unconsciously apologize, saying “excuse me,” or “I’m sorry.” If you go in with that approach you are not
showing your confidence.• If someone says “I’ll think about it,” follow up with them later. If they say no, ask why so that you can work on those
things and improve yourself so next time they won’t be able to say no.
It’s important not to wait for an annual review to talk about your performance, Evans said. “We go over numbers monthly ... you don’t want to wait for the end of the year when you talk about your performance and look for an increase and be disappointed, because these are things you could have worked on all throughout the year if you get good feed-back,” he said.
Panelists debate how men and women ask for what they want at work
Four dolphins will remain at the Florida Highway Welcome Centers for another year to greet visitors as they enter the state. St. Pete/Clearwater Convention & Visitors Bureau is partnering with Visit Florida and our Chamber to continue this very popular promotion. A new “Winter” dolphin will be regularly appearing at the Welcome Centers too. Thousands of new Dolphin Trail postcards have been provided to the Welcome Centers for distribution.
The dolphins that were residing in Senator Latvala, Representative Hooper and Representative Zimmerman’s offices for the last 2 legislative sessions are now back in Pinellas County. The dolphin “Hunter” that was in Representative Peters office has been moved in Tallahassee to the Visit Florida headquarters office for display for a year.
The enthusiasm for the dolphin project and the Dolphin Trail continues. In June, another 20 dolphins were purchased bringing the total up to 135 in the project. There will be 100 plus dolphins on the Dolphin Trail to help celebrate the 2015 Clearwater Centennial. Another order for 6’ tall dolphins will be placed in August and delivered to Clearwater in September. If you are interested in purchasing a dolphin please ask a Chamber staff member for the purchase form or you can access it on our website.
Dolphin Trail Update
