As we head towards Christmas and the New Year it’s a time for celebration, family, friends and community – what better way than to support some of the activities on Warwick Estate than to get involved to help make it a better place to live.

Warwick Ahead has only just started to tap into its £1 million to be spent over the next 10 years and has responded to what people on the estate have said they want. This is including a community transport scheme, a credit union, a new meeting space ‘The Hub’ on Pinewood Place for the Recycled Teenagers group, luncheon Club for older residents, a worker for children and families with Additional Needs, environment projects, youth activities, this newsletter and much more.

Funded by Local Trust, Warwick Ahead – Big Local is here for residents to decide what you want on the estate and how the money can be spent. In order to get involved and have your say you can come to the Warwick Ahead Community Board Meetings or contact the Addy or Community Group. To get all these schemes running we need your help to say how they should be run. Warwick Ahead is for EVERY RESIDENT ON WARWICK ESTATE.

Whatever your interest – transport, socialising, sport, environment, the arts etc we want to hear from you. Warwick Ahead is a great opportunity to make a difference, to make friends, improve your CV and job prospects - it’s the only place in Wakefield that has this funding and is

Warwick Residents Scoop Up Local Awards

The WDH Love Where you Live Awards (East Area heats) were held on 3rd September to celebrate the good work that is happening in our community. The East Area covers; Airedale, Castleford, Knottingley and Pontefract. Several Warwick residents did the estate proud...

3rd Place – Working with Young People Michelle Poxon & Jayne Byford The two first placed categories; Best Neighbourhood and Working with Older People are going through to the grand finale at the Cedar Court hotel Wakefield in November and will be against the 1st place categories from the Central and West teams. Congratulations to some amazing residents!

Warwick Ahead Photo Competition “Now and Then” We are looking for photos under the theme ‘Now and Then’ that sum up the spirit of Warwick Estate, it could be a street party, a community event, landscape, the environment or family. The photo could either be an old picture of the estate or a new recent photo.

There will be a £25 cash prize each for the winner of the Now and Then categories, £15 second place prizes for each category and £10 for the Now and Then in 3rd place.

The best photos will be chosen for an exhibition on the estate in February.

Please either send a copy of your photo on email to info@onetoonedevelopment.org with a description of the picture and your name and contact details, or take a copy of your picture to the Addy and make sure its marked clearly with your name and a contact number.

For nearly 3 years Rebekah Eyles has been a key resident in helping drive Warwick Ahead forward from initial research through to writing the Community Plan, making a Vision for the Estate and setting up a Community Board. Rebekah’s dedication to the community, her practical ‘say it as it is’ approach and infectious sense of humour have led to her representing Warwick Ahead locally and also nationally at events and workshops. Rebekah has served as Chair Person of the Warwick Ahead Community Board for two years and will be affectionately remembered for her ice breaking games, way of involving everyone in meetings and making sure their voice was heard.

Stock up for Christmas

Table top sale on Wednesday 13th November at Pinewood Place between 10am to 1.00pm.

There will be lots of goodies for sale including clothes, cake stall, tombola, bric a brac, jewellery, cards – with tea and coffee on offer as well.

Art and Craft

Every Monday 1.00-3.00pm come and be creative the group is open to everyone and is a chance to make lots of nice things while meeting new people and relaxing.

Diabetic Self-Help Group

If you have diabetes and want some support then call into this friendly group that runs every 2nd Tuesday of the month between 10 am to 12 noon.

Parents of Unique Children

This social group meet every Monday from 10 am till 12 noon.

The group is growing and are planning out activities and things to do and are getting their voice heard through Warwick Ahead.

Are you thinking about getting a mobility scooter or do you have questions to ask about your own mobility scooter?

Then come along to the ‘SafeScoot’ mobility scooter social afternoon at: The Old Quarry Adventure Playground on the 26th of November at 12.00 – 2.00 Being unable to get safely out and about can have a major effect on health and wellbeing and using public transport or a taxi is not always possible or convenient. A mobility scooter if safely used can be the key to independence, especially if you’re just going to the local shops or anywhere that’s a little too far to walk.

This afternoon social event has been arranged in partnership with South West Yorkshire NHS and Tate Care Mobility Centre and will promote safe and courteous use of mobility scooters and highlight common safety risks. Any existing mobility scooter user or anyone considering buying a mobility scooter is welcome to come along. The session will include information on choosing and caring for a scooter, driving demonstrations and top tips and the opportunity to have a go yourself.

Farewell Simon

A sad farewell to PCSO Simon Ragsdale, who is to leave the Pontefract & Knottingley Neighbour-hood Policing Team as he has been successfulin his application to become a Police Officer.

Simon has worked on the NPT for the past 9 years.During this time he has been commended with x 5 divisional Commanders Certificate of Merit.Along with his patrol partner (Aaron Riley) the pair have become a household name in the Knottingley area, more fondly referred to as ‘Max & Paddy’The pair formed their own football & rugby teams and hold regular training sessions with Simon coaching the Paddy’s Predators, of which he very much loved doing and is one of the things he is said to miss the most when he leaves.
