Warwick Central State School Newsletter Principal’s Message 10th October 2017 Central SS Bucket Fillers: Well done to everyone who participated whole-heartedly in our first two days of swimming lessons last week! Learning to swim is critically important for everyone, particularly children, as Australia, sadly, has significantly high numbers of drownings each year, which is a tragedy! Let’s hope we have 100% participation in lessons again this week! Swimming Lessons Swimming is a compulsory part of the school curriculum and vitally important for all children to learn. We have the good fortune of an indoor heated pool here in Warwick so that students can swim in any and all types of weather, with trained instructors at WIRAC. Group numbers are excellent at around seven students per instructor, which is ideal for progress to occur. Students not participating in swimming will remain at school in buddy classrooms, completing class work. Attendance – Every Day Counts! It is vitally important that children attend school every day they possibly can, unless they are unwell. Our school day begins at 8:50am each day, and finishes at 3pm. While our overall attendance rate has improved in 2017, there are still a significant number of children who either arrive late or leave early. Students need to be present for the whole school day, every day. It is also very difficult for our administration staff when parents and carers ring in the afternoon session before 3pm wanting messages delivered to their children to change the afternoon’s arrangements, or to leave early. The busiest times of the day in the office are between 8am and 9am, and 2.30pm and 3.30pm. Your understanding and assistance are very much appreciated. Parenting Ideas Insights Article: How to Get Kids off to School on Time! This week’s article focuses on getting our children to school on time without yelling, whining or constantly reminding! My experience was one child who was early ready and wanting to be at school early and the other constantly finding excuses to stay in bed, drag the chain, and generally delay leaving until the last possible moment!! Pupil Free Day NEXT Monday, October 16th Next Monday, October 16 th is a pupil free day for the purposes of verification and moderation of student samples of work across all schools in Queensland, particularly important for Year 12 students who are aiming for an OP to attend university. Learning to swim is critically important for everyone, particularly children, as Australia, sadly, has significantly high numbers of drownings each year, which is a tragedy! Let’s hope we have 100% participation in lessons again this week!
