THE CHAPEL: WHAT IS IT FOR?
Why do we have a Chapel in the Inn? I suggest for at least these three reasons:
First because everyone needs to consider even if they cannot answer, the great questions of life, who are we, why are we here, to whom if anyone are we responsible, and so on. What is done in the Chapel may help us to think about these questions, and to point us at least in the direction of answers.
Secondly because the very existence of such a place reminds us, whether or not we believe in God, that there is more to life than work, and more to work than making a living; there is in fact a spiritual (or at least a non-material) dimension to our existence.
Thirdly because we are a community and the Chapel is a worthy place for the prayer and praise of the community to be offered to Almighty God.
Why should the Chapel be a place of Anglican worship, rather than multi-denominational or multi-faith? In what may be called "formal" worship (and I do not mean anything derogatory by that term) it is necessary to use some form or other. The Church of England's form is the one for which the Chapel was built and intended. However, much of what we do is not specifically Anglican, for instance our Bible Readings and Carol Services; and my hope is that all our services, formal and informal, may be found helpful and positive by any believer in God and by any seeker after truth.
While the Chapel is particularly for those who live and work in the Inn, whether as judges, barristers, students, clerks, employees or tenants, it is also open to the public and we are always glad to welcome anyone of whatever faith or none.
The Chapel is open from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Some find it a convenient place for quiet meditation, and the high pews, though they have disadvantages, are well suited to those who wish to pray undisturbed.

Lincoln’s Inn Chapel follows the traditional services of Matins and Eucharist according to the Book of Common Prayer. Orders of Service can be followed on the laminated cards and on page 1 (Matins) and page 236 (Eucharist) of the Book of Common Prayer. The page number of the psalm is noted on the music list. In Eastertide we sing the Easter Anthems in place of the Venite. They can be found on page 128 of the Prayer Book.
Every Sunday after the Service, all members of the congregation are invited to join the Masters of the Bench and Members of the Inn for a brief social gathering in the Crypt of the Old Hall.
Dates and times of all Chapel events in the Chapel in the Hilary Term are set out in the Chapel Calendar or will appear in the Lent Leaflet later in term: both may be found at the back of the Chapel. Please take one.

LUNCHTIME CONCERTS
Our free Lunchtime Concerts are performed by musicians from the Royal College of Music and are open for all to attend. The concerts
begin at 1.05pm and are generally finished by 1.50pm. The dates for the Easter and Trinity terms are:

“Ascension to Trinity - A Trio of Feasts”
The Choir of Lincoln’s Inn presents a concert celebrating three of the most important feasts in the liturgical year. The concert for choir and
organ will include music from across the centuries and feature the first performance of a new work by John Casken, written as part of an
ongoing project to commission works based on John Donne’s Litany.
The performance will begin at 6 pm promptly, and end at approximately 7 pm.
Please note: admission to the concert only is free. Tickets are unnumbered and unreserved. If you wish to attend the concert and reception in the Old Hall after the concert, please contact Member
