Although the Gabbaiim consult the chiyuv list each week to

help arrange aliyot, we ask that those seeking an aliyah (or

wish to "bench" gomel) contact the Gabbaiim prior to

davening on Shabbat (or even during the week) and indicate

their need for a kibbud. We will do our best to accommodate,

keeping in mind, for example, previously reserved aliyot due

to semachot. Thank you. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

and dignified memorial to loved ones. AT YIEB, now in

its 38th year, we keep the lights lit on either side of

the plaque each year during the full month of the

Yahrtzeit and also when we recite Yizkor on Yom

Kippur, Shemini Atzeret, Pesach and Shavuot. The

cost of a plaque is $360. To purchase, please contact

JENNIFER SCHLOSS IS TRAINING FOR THE

NYC MARATHON TO SUPPORT NEEDY

HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS

As the grandchild of Holocaust survivors, I grew up

hearing stories about what my grandparents had been

through. Hearing those stories of survival has always

made me proud, but also so sad about the suffering

that my family members and so many like them were

forced to endure. Thankfully, my grandparents are

able to support themselves today and are surrounded

by caring family. But some survivors aren't as lucky.

Some can't afford to pay rent or hospital bills. Some

can't afford to buy food or medications. After all

they've been though, these survivors deserve to live

with dignity. The Blue Card Fund directly helps

survivors with these needs and more. Its work began

in the 1930s to help Jews being persecuted by the

Nazis and its mission continues today. My

grandparent's stories were almost always about how

they tried to help others or how others helped them.

With that message in mind, this year I am training for

and running in the NYC Marathon (November 1st!) in

order to raise money to help The Blue Card Fund with

their important work. Any donation at all will be

greatly appreciated! The link to my fundraising page

can be found here.
