SHUL SECURITY

Thank you to all the people that participated in the

recent CSS presentation. The number of people that

attended was impressive. YIEB wants to thank Bruce

Schlanger, our former member, for his presentation.

In order to go forward with the CSS program, we need

to have commitments from a core group of people

that are willing to complete the training. If you are

interested, please email Zvi Herskovits at

[email protected] so that we will be able to go to the

next step. Thank you.

SHUL PARKING LOT

Please do not park nor stand in Fire

Lanes. It is essential we allow for

passage of emergency vehicles. ____________________________________________________________________________________________

COMMUNITY SECURITY SERVICE

For those still interested, it is not too late to sign up

for CSS training. In addition to an opportunity to help

to protect our community, it's a chance to learn self

defense and Israeli-style facility security from

qualified security experts. Training will even include

some Krav Maga. You will learn something useful and

it might be fun. Any shul member can apply and we

encourage women to participate. A very basic level of

physical fitness is required. The more applicants /

trainees we have, the more coverage we can provide

without over burdening our team. If interested please

email [email protected] AND follow the

instructions below. To sign up for this class, each

member should access this site:

http://css.memberlodge.org/

Hit the link on the left to "Cadet Application" and fill in

the prompted information to submit the application.

For the full class (10 - 12 weeks) we are looking at

two classes, one in Bergen County (likely near Frisch),

and one in NYC very close to Penn Station. They will

start mid-May and be on Tuesday Nights (8 pm sharp

to 10:10 pm).

The family of our dear friend and Highland Park resident

Howard Beyer, Z"L has created The Howard L. Beyer Memorial Fund at ELEM/Youth and Distress in Israel,

connecting Howard's dedication to issues of troubled

youth and his abiding commitment to Israel. ELEM/Youth

in Distress in Israel is the country’s leading nonprofit

organization serving 20,000 troubled young people and

an additional 100,000 youth who use ELEM online

annually. These teens face tremendous challenges including domestic violence, drug and alcohol addiction,

neglect, bullying, homelessness and prostitution, in

addition to the stressors of living in Israel. ELEM's

programs, located in 40 cities, provide a safe space for

Israeli youth and help them to recover, reinvigorate, and

reimagine a positive future for themselves, their family

and their country. All gifts in Howard's memory will be acknowledged both by ELEM and the Beyer family.

EMUNAH

There are, B"H, many new residents in our community

(and even long-timers) who are not aware that they can

do a double chesed almost effortlessly. By ordering a Mother's Day gift basket (usually around $60) for

someone (in the continental US) you want to delight, you

can both brighten someone's day (and if it's your mom,

you can add that to your kibbud em efforts) as well as

send much needed tzedakah to EMUNAH, which supports

senior and day care centers in Eretz Yisrael. EMUNAH is a

particularly worthy tzedakah because it keeps its overhead low with a cadre on committed volunteers, so

the lion's share of donations reach their intended

recipients. If you would like to participate in this

wonderful chesed, send an inquiry to Barbara Kessel at

[email protected] or call Pauline Mykoff at 732 572

0457. Nizkeh lemitzvot!
