ALGEBRA: How Will We Learn It?

• Cooperative learning strategies• Real world applications• Solving problems• Using technology, including blogging• Review games• Most Importantly: through YOUR HARD WORK

(I can’t learn it for you. Sorry. )

Standards Based Grading

• It’s a good thing! Your grade is based on what you know.

• You get to keep working on the things that are hard for you until you have mastered them.

• You will keep track of your score (1-4) on each target on a sheet of paper that I give you.

• A 4 means you have mastered the skill (an expert)

Page 23: WELCOME to ALGEBRA 1, PART A Mrs. Hall Room 535 1 st Period 4 th Period Mrs. Hall Room 535 1 st Period 4 th Period

• A 3 means you are almost an expert.• A 2 means you have a little more work to do• A 1 means that this is an area in which you can

grow

• *Lets look at an example target and the sheet that you will use to keep track of your scores

Cooperative Learning

• What does it mean?

• We will be learning together and interacting with each other: tell a friend, round robin, quiz quiz trade

Page 25: WELCOME to ALGEBRA 1, PART A Mrs. Hall Room 535 1 st Period 4 th Period Mrs. Hall Room 535 1 st Period 4 th Period

• We will not all always be doing the same thing. Everyone learns at a different pace and in different ways. I respect your individuality. I expect you all to respect each other’s differences, too.

What if you need help or have a question???

• Never be afraid to ask questions. Before class, during class, and after class are all appropriate times to ask questions. The worst thing you can do is not ask if you don’t understand.

• I am here for you. You may visit me in the morning (if I don’t have duty), in the afternoon, or during my 3rd period planning time (with your 3rd period teacher’s permission and a note).
