◦ PTA Membership Dues--$7 PER PERSON—we haven’t raised these dues in Years
◦ Fundraisers: Smencils, Dine Out Events, etc.
◦ Food & Event revenue◦ ABOVE ALL—MANPOWER: VOLUNTEERS,
VOLUNTEERS, VOLUNTEERS! We can only offer programs that have volunteers chairing and /or helping. Any programs without volunteers will not be offered.

We use Traits writing which focus’s on 6 plus 1 components of successful writing.

Poetry FolderPoetry FolderPlease read the new poem every
other Thursday and return signed Poetry Folder comment sheet on Friday.
Children will practice the week’s poem with their peers to strengthen their reading fluency.

Take-Home FolderTake-Home FolderCheck your child’s take home folder
daily for any homework assignments, daily behavior, and any reminders.
Books from reading envelope, repeated reading passage, poems or books read at home can be recorded on reading log.
Poetry Folders will be sent home every other Thursday.
Data BindersData BindersStudents will be bringing home
data binders (may be weekly or bi-weekly depending on assessment calendar).
Binders will be sent home on the last day of the week.
We ask that you look over your child’s work, sign it and then return it, the following school day.

Keeping Dirksen SafeKeeping Dirksen SafeStudents should arrive at school between
8:25 – 8:35 AM. Adult supervision will begin outside at 8:25.
The parking lot will close from 8:20-8:45 and
2:50-3:10 after school.
In the morning, the area to the west of the parking lot exit is a drop-off only zone.
For families that would like to park and walk their child to school, you may park on Hickory, Sumac, or Beech street to the east of the parking lot entrance.
Important Reminders for Important Reminders for SafetySafety Please cross students at the crosswalk with the crossing guard.
Please be courteous of the neighbors who live next to Dirksen.
Do not block their driveways or use their driveways to drop off students or to turn your car around.
Please use the area to the right of the parking lot
exit on Beech Drive as a drop off area only.
Please pull your car into the drop-off zone and stay in your car. Children should exit the car on the passenger’s side.
We appreciate your help in dropping your child off in a quick and safe manner to keep the flow of traffic moving.

Conference Schedule/Party Sign-up in hallway
Please send a note with your child if he/she will depart from school different from his/her normal routine.
Children will have snack daily. Please make sure it is a healthy snack and a list will be provided for you.
Lunch is now from 12:00-12:45. If you need to drop off a lunch, please drop off by 12:00, as the children eat first then go outside for recess.
