The Tara Vati Ram Gopal Mehra Foundation was founded by late Ram Gopal Mehra on the demise of his wife, late Tara Vati Mehra in 1968. The forming of the Foundation was the beginning of the fulfillment of a dream of a family, displaced from Pakistan during the days of the partition, to serve the community in which they lived. Shri Ram Gopal Mehra, his son, Lalit Mehra, and his daughter-in-law, Renu Mehra were partners in this dream. Their children, Priya Khanna and Pran Mehra are now part of this dream.

THE FOUNDATION RUNS:

A spacious Medical Centre in a needy and congested part of New Delhi, with a full time charitable OPD providing the services of General Physicians, Homeopath, Ayurveda, Yoga, Cardiology, Orthapaedic, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Surgery, ENT, Eye Surgeon, Psychiatrist and Dentistry; and equipped with an X-Ray unit, Ultrasound & ECG facility, Computerised Pathology Laboratory and a Physiotherapy Unit, with a Minor Operation theatre to be added shortly.

Two charitable Homeopathic Dispensaries in New Delhi. A Primary School with a feeder Nursery Class having a strength of over 430

children in the heart of New Delhi. Vocational training classes for Stitching & Sewing; Beauty Culture and Computer Training are also offered.

Now that the Tara Vati Ram Gopal Mehra Foundation has established itself and its activities, and developed a significant corpus through the efforts of the Founder's Family, it is time to look outward to involve others in the community and those all around the world wishing to help the underprivileged by furthering the activity of the Foundation.

SOME HISTORY:

Since the demise of Shri Ram Gopal Mehra in 1980, Lalit Mehra and Renu Mehra dedicated themselves to fulfilling this shared family dream and converting it into ground reality. They added to the Corpus of the Foundation each year from their

business and personal incomes. In recent years some close family and friends have joined them. This dedicated and consistent effort has resulted in the raising of the Corpus of the Foundation beyond any expectation they had of themselves and their capacity. Both Lalit Mehra and Renu Mehra have distinguished themselves in service to and through Rotary and Inner Wheel respectively.

Having served as the President of the Rotary Club of Delhi South in 1977-78, Lalit Mehra served as District Governor of Rotary International's District 3010 (comprising Clubs in Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Sonepat) in 1984-85. He then had the singular distinction of being invited to train incoming District Governors at the Rotary International Assemblies in 1985 and 1986. He was Chairman of the Polioplus Campaign Committee for India, Sri Lanka and Nepal when he was responsible for raising the region's share of contribution of funds for the purchase of Oral Polio Vaccine. Under his leadership, the region surpassed its target of USD 4.2 million during 1987-88 when Rotary International raised USD 220 million globally. He has also been responsible for the formation of the Rotary Foundation (India) in order to channel contributions from Indian Rotarians. In addition to his Rotary Activity, Lalit Mehra has also been responsible for establishing the Alwar Public School.

Renu Mehra served as President of the Inner Wheel Club of Delhi South in 1979-80 and then as District Chairman of Inner Wheel District 301, before serving as President of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India in 1984-85. She has distinguished herself in service to the community and is looked upon as a person to turn to for help by all those, especially the needy, who come to her for help.
