TODAY’S PROGRAM…

The KEEP Margaret Krasnoff intro-duced Shannan Gibb-Randall and Lindsey Nel-son of Insite Design. They are both landscape archi-tects who have been advis-ing us on the KEEP (Kiwanis Environmental Education Preserve). They have been working with the KEEP Committee and shared some of their ideas and designs which includ-ed slides of the property going back to 1960.

We learned that a river runs through the KEEP, or at least Honey Creek does. The property includes wet lands, invasive species, and lots of deer and mos-quitoes. They said that parts of the KEEP need healing and discussed a preliminary master plan which could include a deer wall, a controlled burn, signage, guardrails, and a classroom area. The KEEP is a great resource with a lot of potential, and we should be able to use it for some of our own uses, like picnics or educational us-es.

ANNOUNCEMENTS...

The Board at its Special Meeting on Monday, March 12 approved a series of motions, as summarized below:

Accepted Gretchen Preston’s resignation from the board and as President, effec-tive March 5, 2018.

Acknowledged and supported President-Elect William Hampton’s succession to the vacant office of Board President pursuant to Article VI, Section 1 of the Foun-dation bylaws effective March 12, 2018, through September 30, 2018.

Due to these changes, a vacancy is now created for the position of President-Elect. The board asked the Nominating Committee to seek candidates and schedule an election within the next 60 days.

Dave Drake announced that the next super-interclub will be on Thursday, March 15th starting at 7:00 at the Whitmore Lake Community Center.

Larry Dittmar informed us that contributions are being raised for a 2018 scholarship in the name of Letitia Byrd. Checks should be given to Eloise Lavin and made payable to the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundation, Inc. The goal is to raise at least $750 which will be matched by the Cross Founda-tion.

The Kiwanis Spring Divisional will be held Saturday, April 7th from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Troy Community Center. Let Kathy Wilder know if you are interested in attending.

President–Elect William Hampton announced that Ann Arbor will be hosting the 2019 Kiwanis Michigan District Conference in 2019 at the Sheraton. More information will be following, and there will be volunteer opportunities.

Larry Dittmar will be the speaker at Ann Arbor Western’s March 20th meeting at the Quarter Bistro.

FINES...

It’s a long invocation-related story but all male members who hadn’t washed dishes in their younger days paid. President-Elect William V. Hampton again volunteered to pay the fine of all women members in hon-or of Women’s History Month. Then everyone else contributed their two bits.

HAPPY DOLLARS...

Claire Dahl marched up to announce that The Marching Rosies will be representing Michigan at the July 4th parade in Washington, D.C.

Larry French sadly reported that his daughter Ann had known two of the VA work-ers recently killed at a Veterans Administration facility.

Sally Lamkin was happy for a great free Dexter orchestra concert and her sorority shopping spree at Kiwanis.

Dick Smit was pleased that Dale Leslie had brought a potential volunteer (Cindy) to Kiwanis.

Ken Hillenburg was happy that he and Alan Burg had a great trip to Mexico.

Dave LaMoreaux was doubly happy that his son and daughter-in-law are buying a house and for a great day of skiing.

In a copycat contribution, Chris Winkler was happy that his daughter is also buying a house (presumably different from the LaMoreaux home) and to be able to root for the Bucknell Bison who are playing MSU in the NCAA tournament.

Gary Donner was very happy that toy companies are fighting over his daughter Wendy’s latest game.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES... Larry Dittmar announced and recommended four upcoming free concerts: U of M

Concert Band at Hill on 3-16 at 8:00, Michigan Youth Choir at Stamps on 3-18 at 4:00, Donald Sinta Sax Quartet Recit-al on 3-19 at Kerrytown Concert House at 8:00 and a Concerto Con-cert with Choir at Pioneer on 3-21 at 7:00.

A Reenactment of a Civil War Sol-dier—Sunday, March 18th, 2pm, Pittsfield Township Administration Building. Sponsored by the Washtenaw County Historical Socie-ty. No charge; public welcome. Dale Leslie will be handling the introduc-tion—after the program. The re-enactor (Rob Stone) wishes to arrive in character and remain that way until the program's conclusion.

Luke Panning will be fiddling around at a March 17th St. Patrick’s Day con-cert at Mac’s Acadian Seafood Shack in Saline.
