Defining a Research Chair
• A Chair will → conduct and supervise research→ mentor young academics→ foster cross–disciplinary relationships→ facilitate research and training.
• A Chair includes→ A team of 10 – 15 people→ lead by a senior researcher (Professor)→ supported by 2 – 3 Post Doctoral Students (PhD)→ train 10 – 12 post-graduate students→ who all do research on a sub-topic of the ‘Chair’
• i.e. ‘Chair for African Financial Markets’

Research Chair Needs
• Clear Vision Increased African economic growththrough an improved mathematical and analytical understanding of African financial markets.
• Part of a dynamic academic environment→ SU’s Department of Mathematical Sciences→ offer Honours program in Math. Finance→ Department has strong links with AIMS→ for which it hosts masters + doctoral students→ from all over Africa
• A long term commitment→ Have a 5 – 10 years plan→ Available funding of EUR 440’000 p.a.→ Possibility to work trans-disciplinary
