Construction Project Will Improve Pedestrian Access: To install new sidewalks before the next school year, we will begin construction mid-June to improve safety for people walking and biking in your community.

Locations of Improvements: This project will improve walking conditions at the following locations:

section of sidewalk on the east side of 118th Avenue SE, south of Main Street.

B. 128th Avenue SE/NE: Construct a sidewalk on the west side of 128th Ave SE/NE from the International School (SE 6th Place) to NE 2nd Street; add curb bump outs at SE 4th Place, SE 3rd Street,

C. NE 2nd Street: Construct a sidewalk on the

north side of NE 2nd Street between 124th Avenue NE and 128th Avenue NE; raise

the NE 2nd Street / 126th Avenue NE intersection; remove the centerline

striping on NE 2nd Street between 124th Avenue NE and 128th Avenue NE, and

install bicycle shared-lane markings (sharrows) from 124th Avenue NE to 128th

Avenue NE.

D. Main Street Trail: Remove and reconstruct the existing six-foot wide and 420-foot-long

asphalt trail running east to west on the south side of Main Street, located

just west of 124th Avenue NE (in front of the Wilburton Instructional

Service Center).

E. Decorative Intersection Treatments: Apply decorative leaf patterns at three locations (See dark blue circles on the maps):

1) 128th Avenue SE at SE 4th Place (replacing the circular brick pavers) 2) 128th Avenue NE at NE 2nd Street 3) NE 2nd Street at 126th Avenue NE

Decorative intersections help to create community identity, encourage slower speeds and more attentive driving through intersections. The design concepts were shared at an Open House where residents chose a leaf

pattern. These will be applied in hot plastic (like a big sticker) and are approximately 12 feet in diameter.

Project Funding: The project is funded by the Neighborhood Sidewalks Program, the Safety, Connectivity and Congestion Levy Program, the Major Maintenance Program, the Neighborhood Traffic Safety Program and the Parks Renovation & Refurbishment Program. The Bellevue School District is providing funding to

support construction of the pedestrian improvements as park of the new Wilburton Elementary School. The total funding amount is $2.2 million.

Construction Schedule & Impacts: Construction is expected to begin the third week of June. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The work will require occasional lane closures to

complete the work safely. Pedestrian and driveway access will be maintained at all times.

Project locations A, C and D are expected to be complete by the end of August in advance of the 2018-2019 school year. Project location “B” is expected to be completed by the end of November.

When biking, driving or walking in the area, please be extra cautious and watch for lane or walkway closures. Please obey construction flaggers and posted construction signage. Safety is our main goal throughout this construction project.
