MAKE ADIffERENCE…

GreeTinGs FrienDs oF THe ymCa,

Many times, our busy lives distract us fromthanking and appreciating others for all they doto enrich our lives. At the Y, lives are changedevery day - through acts of giving and caringby our staff, members, volunteers, friends andmembers.

Our Annual Campaign ensures that no person isdenied YMCA services or membership based onfinancial limitations. every act of support forthe Y, big or small, impacts a life forever.

Throughout our community, members arequietly giving thanks for support from theannual Campaign:

· The mom who receives financial assistancefrom the Y to get active and reduce her bloodpressure.

· The parents who hug their daughter just a bittighter because she knew how to float on herback after being swept away in a stream.

According to theAmerican Council on

exercise, water buoyancy reducesthe “weight” of a person to 90%. Thisreduces the burden on stress-bearingjoints and muscles. For this reason, water aerobics will less likely causeinjury and muscle soreness. if you arehaving difficulty performing certainbody movements on land, you mayfind relief when performing themunderwater. That is why wateraerobics is excellent for those witharthritic joints or those recoveringfrom painful injuries.

Both Jered and i started our Y journey ata young age. My mom worked at the Y, soi was involved in programs like swimminglessons, dance, and camp from a youngage. Jered started his journey at the Y atage 11 with the Kids Can Weight TrainToo program. Because of this greatprogram, he continued to weight train atthe Y throughout high school to conditionhimself for football. We both createdlasting relationships with staff andmembers and that is why we ourselvesare now employees of the Y, teachinggroup fitness classes at the Downtown Y.

Because of the wonderful experienceswe had growing up, the extensive list ofprograms offered for all ages, and theprinciples that the Y stands for we arenow getting our children involved in ourlove for the Y. They have already attendedprograms like swimming lessons, WeeSoccer, and Summer Camp, and ouryoungest attends daycare at the20th Ave location.

We will always have a passion for the Yand for helping others and we want toinstill that in our children. That is why wecontinue to donate to Strong Kids, why ivolunteered to organize a raffle for theday care to help raise money for updatesin technology in their facilities, and whywe teach group fitness to the members. There is nothing more satisfying orrewarding than helping others and makingan impact on someone’s life. That is whatwe love most about the Y.
