The Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is a majestic copper sculpture that towers above Liberty Island at
the entrance of New York Harbor in Upper New York Bay.
The Statue of Liberty was built in New York City, in 1886 to remind us of our freedom in the United States.
The Statue of Liberty stands about 151 ft. from the base to the torch. Miss Liberty stands proudly on top of a 65 ft. tall
foundation.
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French Government to the United States to honor the
ideals of freedom and independence.
French citizens donated money to build the statue, and the people of the United States
raised the funds to construct the foundation and the base.
The Statue of Liberty has become a symbol of the United States and an expression of
freedom of people throughout the world.
