What is it?Mediation is a voluntary and confidential problem solving process designed to help two or more people work out their concerns and conflicts in a safe and neutral setting. The mediators listen to all parties, help them find common ground and work towards a solution that everyone can agree upon. Mediators do not take sides and all decisions are made by the parties themselves.

Common types of conflicts resolved in mediation include rumors/gossip,

communicating threats, fights, property crimes, parent/child conflicts,

simple assaults, and district court charges.

Who does it serve?

• We provide services to youth in the community, in the schools, and youth involved with the juvenile justice system. Referrals to the program come from schools, the Division of Juvenile Justice, law enforcement, school resource officers, social workers, mental health professionals, attorneys and the youth/families themselves.

What types of services do they provide?

• The Youth Mediation Program works with school aged youth (ages 5-18) by teaching young people how to resolve conflicts in productive and non-violent ways. Mediation is offered at no charge.

What other services do they offer?

• The Family Visitation Program supports children so they can maintain relationships with both parents. They provide safe, supervised visits in comfortable rooms filled with toys and games.. This is also the place where safe child exchanges happen for families that share custody.
