Sound:The first step of creating the video after creating a ‘new project’ was to apply the sound onto my project. The song was taken from ITunes and placed onto a memory stick. From here the song was placed onto the video via ‘import’ and this allowed me to store the sound (song) in the box highlighted. Using the select tool I was therefore able to drag the song onto the timeline this then allowing me to edit the video accordingly to the song.

Trim/Positioning clips:Throughout the full process of creating the music video I had to constantly trim and change the position of clips to suit the needs of making a successful music video. When selecting which clip to place onto the timeline next I was able to save time by using Range Selection to grab a certain part of a clip. Once completed I then used the ‘Position’ tool to grab and place the clip onto my timeline this was used instead of ‘Select’ due to it not adjusting the position of any other clips when placed alongside another or when moving a clip. Finally blade/trim were used equally to shorten or lengthen the selected clip into its right length and position.

Video Effects:To make the camera quality better and allow for a easier look for the eyes the effect of ‘Teal & Orange’ was used on all shots to give it more life within each image. On top of this to make the flashback stand out from the present day shots I used the effect ‘Cold Steel’ to make for a gloomy feel to the emotions being felt during and outside of the shot as the male reflects back on these memories. Finally the effect ‘Romantic’ played a part during the visions the male saw of her as it focused on her and slightly blurred out the rest of the images.

Lighting:The color and lighting if certain shots had to be adjusted as the camera quality may have been slightly poor or it was just altered to make greater effect. The shot above is an example of it being marginally adjusted to make the affect and meaning of the shot a lot clearer. Using the ‘Color Board’ I was able to then adjust the exposure of the shot that then ultimately made it brighter or darker dependent to what was required. For example as seen above the shot was made darker around the edges making the male stand out more whilst only slightly the middle main light was increased as it created a much more powerful message with the song.

Slow motion:There was a distinctive use of slow motion during the later part of the video (the bridge) as it allow for a the pace of the narrative to slow don with the pace of the song. The walking through the tunnel whilst the falling of the camera were both slowed down to show the factor of time slowing down as the male is finally made the first step to letting go of the past. Slow motion was performed at different intensity throughout the song and as shown above after entering custom, the speed was easily adjusted to whatever level was required.

Transitions:The use of transitions was limited to create instant cuts from each shot rather than it slowing the pace. Using the transition tab I was able to find the appropriate transition to then drag it into the correct position between shots to create a unique effect between each shot. Firstly the transition of ‘Static’ (Red box) allowed for the opening of the song to be a old style video tape effect that resembled the use of the video camera throughout the video. Then the ‘Flash’ transition was used to during the bridge of the song as he left the tunnel to create a bright light giving the connotation of ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. Also ‘Fade to Colour’ was used to slowly fade out the end shot.
