A midshot be being used to show all the artist clearly. the mise-en-scene there are three popular artist dressed in black and all looking directly in to the camera. The bright yellow contrasts with the black, this has intertwines with the song Whiz Kalifa is in ‘Black and Yellow’.

The ideology is that these artist are serious about their music and also shows they are down to earth because they are not wearing the typical bulky jewellery to show off their money.

The small names on top of the masthead show the artists featured in this magazine.

Their body language shows intimidation towards the reader and also their is a sense of victory in this image.

The word ‘Pop’ is in big bold yellow letters. This is because pop and music are very closely related. Also yellow represents idealism and optimism.

These are a very stereotypical R&B artists because they are wearing from a black origin which is where the genre of music came from.

Every time you look at the master head the reader then looks at the other pieces of text in yellow because the colour is leading the reader to the other pieces of text.

Also the artist are not wearing much jeweller because they are not trying to show off their wealth. The are trying to send out the right message.

This colour scheme is very masculine but the red heart changes that significantly because of the amount of contrast it has compared to the plain silver colour.

The hand coming out from behind Kanye is suggesting that the reader can not have him... Almost as if his heart (the bright red heart) is taken by a mysterious women , because we cant see her face.

Kanye’s body is representing the bottom part of the ‘V’ of VIBE

The Bright red heart stands out compared to the other colours on the page, this is to show how important love is.

There is a conflict between the typography in the heading and the sub-heading fonts.

The ‘contents’ word is split into three parts to show how there is so much contents they couldn’t fit it onto the same line.

This is a very stereotypical Hip Hop/R&B artist because he is of a black origin.

The target audience for this article are young people who can relate to romance and who are into Hip Hop/ R&B

The contents page has another professional mid shot image of two very popular Rap artist. Which shows the reader that they are the main focus for this issue.

We can see the XXL logo on the top right as well because of the bold typography.

The contents is very clear and it is very clear compared to its competitors (e.g. VIBE).

This magazine appeals to many races all over the world, and the most popular race would be people with a black origin.

It’s more of a male magazine as they are more interested in this kind of music and culture, however this does not mean that women don't read it because there are plenty of women who are interested in this type of music.

The main heading is ‘the A-side’ which is telling the reader that these two artist are superior to others, which is expected in this competitive nature of this music.

The amount of expensive jewellery the artists are wearing shows of their wealth to the reader and makes them look like very stereotypical Rap artist.

There body language shows they are unapproachable and possibly dangerous, also is shows that they are good associates, and 50cent is standing behind Souljaboy which almost gives him the father figure within their relationship

This contents page is dominated by the picture, and the text is included on the side.

Also the serif sans is used in the main heading which contradicts the fashionable font used in the sub titles. This is done to balance the magazine between modern and classy.

There are no vibrant colours used in this contents page, they are uncluttered and mainly black and white.

The heading of ‘contents’ separates itself from the text to show the reader how there is so much contents they couldn’t fit the word on one line.

This is presentation is aimed at young teenagers and young adults, the image is aimed to just getting to the point and so the readers know straight away what they are going to read about (due to the sexual nature of the image).

The colours of this magazine gives an unique impression and sets the mood of the magazine to the target audience of the type of music genre for the magazine.

This magazine uses language to address its target audience it uses sharp and touchy sentences on the contents page which will attract the target audience.

This is a double spread page showing Solange Knowles. It uses a very fundamental colour scheme of complementary colours such as black red and blue.

These colours are prominent and attract the reader’s attention as they go well together and praise the main image because it is the only part on the page with colour.

In addition the main image is slightly on the right of the double spread and the size is very generous compared to the other images, which is drawing the attention of the reader immediately.

The bright blue is used to highlight the most important parts of the article. These are the name of the artist and the

There are seven pictures of her in different positions, which shows the reader she is full of personality.

This is a stereotypical hip hop artist. She is black, and also the position she is standing in is quite sexual mostly because her hands are behind her back and she revealing some flesh.

As you can see the most of the writing is on one the left side of the page because the main image is on the right hand side. This gives the article a sense of balance.

the magazines target audience must be trendy because of the type of the standard of clothing Solange is wearing.

Page 10: Media portfolio

The main concentration of this double spread page is the image. It is clearly aimed at the younger generation because they are familiar with his work, and will be interested.

This magazine follows the conventional C type layout. This is when the main heading is on the top right and the picture is on the middle left side and then finally the writing is on the bottom right side. The effect this has it is very easy on the eye and very clear.

There is use of colloquial language in the main heading of the double page spread ' Over here husltlin' this is slang. The artist also uses words like ‘okay’ and ‘its good’ which is language we hear everyday. This makes the artist more relatable to the reader.

The mode of address is comfortable as the interviewer is addressing the artist as a friend rather than an actual interviewer.

The plain white background creates a simplistic feel. Also it looks good with the artists clothing. A white background is purposely used to attract a mature audience. This is because his fan base is mostly teenagers, and they are trying to promote him (and their magazine) to a more mature audience who are more likely to afford their prices.

There is a drop cap at the start of the article, this is a traditional method used to capture the reader attention. Also the big, bold, black stand out and really is a great finishing touch to the layout of the magazine and the colours used.

The mask on his face automatically catches the readers attention because it is interesting and different. Also it add a sense of mystery to the artiicle. On the other hand the artist is watching straight into the camera which build a bond between the reader and the artist.

The double page spread has a very professional photo of the rappers, and 50cent (left) is standing behind the young rapper soulja boy (right) as the father figure, because he is older in age.

There body language is making them look as though they should not be messed with and are very serious, also they look as if they are welcoming any potential competitors.

The main cover line has lots of swear words which have been blanked out but are still able to read, I think this has been done on purpose as this is the type of language used in this hip hop ‘gangster’ culture and they are using it to represent rappers. Also they are used to show how aggressive and competitive this genre of music is.

A conventional C type layout has been used in this double page spread so that the reader finds it easy to absorb all the information. This also connotes seriousness.

This is a very stereotypical Hip Hop/R&B artist because they are of a black origin.

Also the artist are wearing expensive jewellery and designer clothing which is very common in the rap music culture, because the artists feel as if they have to show off their money in order to put of other artist who compete with them.

Publishing House For my research I found out that I had to create

an attractive magazine it should have interesting images and informative text. Due to IPC’s diversification they are much more open to computerised publications so I don’t have to use traditional methods for my magazine and it can be computerised without risking the IPC’s interest.
