Exemplar QuestionsIn this section you need to write about your work for the Foundation Portfolio and Advanced Portfolio units. You must answer 1(a) and 1(b)

1 (a) ‘Digital technology turns media consumers into media producers.’ In your own experience, how has your creativity developed through using digital technology to complete your coursework productions?

(b) ‘Media texts rely on cultural experiences in order for audiences to easily make sense of narratives’. Explain how you used conventional and/or experimental narrative approaches in one of your production pieces.

Candidates answer two compulsory questions. The first requires them to describe and evaluate their skills development over the course of their production work, from Foundation Portfolio to Advanced Portfolio. The second asks them to identify one production and evaluate it in relation to one theoretical concept.

Pixels & Resolution

The more pixels used to represent an image, the closer the result can resemble the original. The number of pixels in an image is sometimes called the resolution, though resolution has a more specific definition. Pixel counts can be expressed as a single number, as in a "three-megapixel" digital camera, which has a nominal three million pixels, or as a pair of numbers, as in a "640 by 480 display", which has 640 pixels from side to side and 480 from top to bottom (as in a VGA display), and therefore has a total number of 640 × 480 = 307,200 pixels or 0.3 megapixels.
