This power point will tell you all about World War 2

How did this start?

• All of Europe made a deal with Germany that a new law was going to be declared. This was called The Treaty of Versailles and this is what it said:

• Germany had to pay £6,600 million pounds.• Had to repair all the damage caused.• They had land took off them.• They were not allowed a bigger army or navy.

The Blackout

• All houses were covered with black and darkness so they wouldn’t get bombed.

• People were not allowed to leave their homes since they might get bombed.

• If they had to go out in the car they were not allowed to turn their head lights on.

Evacuation

• Children during the war time had to leave their homes and their families because it was too dangerous.

• They had to either leave the country or go to a different city or town.

When it started and ended

• World War 2 started on the 3rd September 1939, and it ended on the 8th May 1945.

• This war lasted for 6 years when most people thought it would last 6 weeks.

• Britain won World War 2.

Shelters

• They used shelters to hide from the air raid and the bombs.

• The best shelter was called the Andersons Shelter.

• The Anderson shelter was built under a hill and the door was made from iron.

• Morrison shelters were built under tables with metal crates on the outside.

Christmas

• Girls and boys did not get hardly any presents for Christmas.

• Boys usually got finger puppets made out of paper and out of a magazine.

• Girls usually got dolls made out of wood that was flat and was made by their grandparents.

• Unusually, they got a box of chocolate from their mother that cost a lot.

Who we were fighting against and why?

• The Nazis were terrible people that were part of the German army.

• We were the Allies with lots of other countries and the Germans and about 5 more were the Axis.

• We started fighting because Britian made an announcement that we declared war with Germany.

• We also started fighting because Britian made a rulebook called The Treaty of Versailles and Germany agreed to sign it. When they signed it they then disagreed and done the opposite of what it said so they didn’t pay £6,600 million pounds and they invaded Poland and made a bigger army.
