HOW TO MANAGE DIABETES AT WORK?

Here are some tips to manage diabetes at work:

Speak to your physician/diabetes educator on how to manage your diet, exercise,medication and self-monitoring at work.

Keep a detailed record — record meals, activities, sleep, work hours, medications,and blood sugar. This will help you spot blood sugar patterns so that you will beable to make adjustments as needed.

Always carry glucometer. Check your blood sugar a few times at work to see ifyou need to raise or lower medication doses. You may need to make changes toyour diet and medication for each shift that you work.

Let your supervisor/ boss know what your needs are to allow time to take a breakto check your blood sugar or to eat a snack.

Carry a planned snack for every shift in order to maintain your blood sugar. Bringalong an extra snack in case your blood sugar drops.

Keep a reminder on the bulletin board in front of your desk about meal timings.

If you are physically active at work be aware of the effect of physical activity onthe blood sugar. Always keep sugar sachets with you while exercising in caseyour blood sugar levels drop.
