WHY SET GOALS?“I AM THOROUGHLY CONVINCED THAT IF WE DON’T SET GOALS IN OUR LIFE AND LEARN TO MASTER THE TECHNIQUES OF LIVING TO REACH OUR GOALS, WE CAN REACH A RIPE OLD AGE AND LOOK BACK ON OUR LIFE ONLY TO SEE THAT WE HAVE REACHED BUT A SMALL PART OF OUR POTENTIAL. WHEN ONE LEARNS TO MASTER THE PRINCIPLES OF SETTING A GOAL, HE WILL THEN BE ABLE TO MAKE A GREAT DIFFRENECE IN THE RESULTS HE ATTAINS IN THIS LIFE” - Elder M. Russell Ballard

BELIEVE IT’S POSSIBLE

“Before setting any goal you must first believe in yourself. This belief in yourself will help you to set goals that will stretch

you and help you to grow.”

“Be not afraid, only believe” -Mark 5:36

YOU GET WHAT YOU EXPECT

“Remember what you think about most is what you will most likely get. Make sure you always think about and expect to

reach your goals, this will go a long way in achieving all that you desire”

Page 6: Creating your own success session 2

The Comfort Zone

“Learn to get outside your comfort zone. When you get outside your comfort zone you will learn and expand more quickly

and see quicker results.”

HOW TO SET GOALS

“Carefully considered goals will give you clear direction and will help you fill your days with opportunities to strengthen

yourself and those around you.”

-Preach My Gospel

Page 9: Creating your own success session 2

HOW TO SET GOALSIs the goal specific? Is the goal realistic?Does the goal make you stretch? Are you committed to this goal?

Page 10: Creating your own success session 2

Specific Goals When making a goal you need to be as specific as possible.

Example 1: I want to own my own home

Example 2: I will own my own home by July 7th 2015.

Page 11: Creating your own success session 2

Realistic Goals Don’t set a goal that is impossible to achieve.

If you want to purchase a house but you have no money or plans to buy one, it would be unrealistic to make a goal to buy a house in one month.

Goals That Make Us Stretch

“shoot for the moon, and even if you miss you will land amongst the stars”

“The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is to high and we miss it, but

that it is too low and we reach it”-Michelangelo

Page 13: Creating your own success session 2

Being Committed When setting a goal you must be committed to seeing it through.

“And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize;

therefore, all things must be done in wisdom and order.”

- Mosiah 4:27

“All victory is brought to pass unto you through your diligence, faithfulness, and prayers of faith”

D&C 103:36

Mapping your GoalsAfter making a goal we must map out how we will reach it. When we map out our goals it helps them to be more easily achievable. We can visualize them and take them one piece at a time by making many smaller goals.

“By small and simple things are great things brought to pass”

-Alma 37:6

Page 15: Creating your own success session 2

Mapping your goals activityTake a few minutes to draw out a map of everything that must go into reaching your goal. And then create goals for each section.

Page 16: Creating your own success session 2

Measure Your Progress Look back often at how far you have come. By seeing your progress from

where you started from it will serve as a motivator to help you to keep pursuing

your goals.

Page 17: Creating your own success session 2

BEING ACCOUNTABLE

“When performance is measured, performance improves. When performance is measured and

reported, the rate of improvement accelerates”

-President Thomas S. Monson
