To expose yourself as little as possible, follow these guidelines: DON’T use passwords with fewer than six characters. They’re especially easy to break. Your passwords should be at least eight characters long and shouldn’t be recognizable words. DO include letters, numbers, and special characters such as +, #, and $ in your password. DON’T reuse the same password. DO use password-management solutions such as LastPass, KeePass, or RoboForm that help you securely store and use your passwords.
