“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

Nothing is going to get better. It's not.”

― Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

The animal species and human groups who live in areas with a loss of trees, lose their homes and ways of life. There is a loss of protection from trees without the cover of trees and there is less oxygen, and protection from climate change.

Sustainable harvest is the idea in which trees are cut at a rate that allows them to regrow in a given area at the same rate at which they are gathered. This is a form of conservation. Another form of conservation is to stop the cutting down of forests all together such as national parks.

• Deforestation can cause underground wells, under and around the roots of trees, to dry out.

• The loss of habitat has a direct ripple effect on humans (E.g. increase of mosquito population, bats feed on mosquitos but have no habitat).

• Vegetation loss (provides a good filter for pollutants entering groundwater, lakes, rivers, streams, etc.)

• Trees help to moderate temperature, and release oxygen into the atmosphere.
