Introduction..
• Our project is concerned with energy production from Salt Water, by ratio 4:1 (Water : Salt)
Process
• Magnesium + Water+ Salt+ Oxygen=Current
Requirements..• Magnesium Plate• Aluminum Cane• Salt Water• Connecting Wires with clippers• Digital Multi-meter• Electric Bulb• Plastic tub
Why Magnesium And Salt Water?
• Magnesium• Light Metal• High milting point• No corrosion• No CO₂ production
• Salt Water• Alternative source of
fuel• Environmental friendly• No fuel cost• No damming of water
required• Cheap
Basic Concepts??
• In this arrangement Magnesium is used as anode, aluminum is used as cathode and salt water as electrolyte.
• Since during discharging of electricity, the current flows out of cathode terminal. That’s why aluminum is used as cathode in this case.
How Process Occurs??• First of all Salt is dissolved in Water and
“Ionization” occurs.
What Happens Next??• During chemical reaction Mg lose 2 electrons
(Mg⁺²) because Chlorine (Cl) is oxidizing agents since they tend to remove electrons.
• Water dissolves in ions and (OH⁻¹) and (H⁺) is produce. As a result Mg(OH)₂ is produced. While the generated hydrogen ions tends to move toward aluminum Cathode, and due to these motion of ions (electrons + protons) Current is produced.
Reactions Help..
Advantages..• Renewable• Environment friendly• Abundant and widely available• Easily predictable• Less dependency on oil gas etc..• No damage to land
Applications..
• Current storage Cell• Automobiles (Quant e-Sportlimousine Car)• Heavy turbines
