Course Description
This course, Applied Sciences Stream Level 1, is a special English language course for students at the
Preparatory Programs Deanship. The focuses on accuracy and fluency in the four language skills
(Listening, speaking, reading and writing) that improve student outcomes by integrating language
instruction into real-life contexts. It maintains a strategy-based curriculum that aims at developing the
all language skills. The textbooks used for this course are characterized by a consistent unit sequence that
includes vocabulary, life stories, grammar, everyday conversation and real-life reading. The content of
each unit is carefully presented to develop learners' other skills in vocabulary and idioms that provide
learners with the tools they need to achieve civic, workplace, life-skills and academic competencies. The
course, through these textbooks, focuses on reading, writing and vocabulary, listening and speaking, and
grammar.

Course Policy
The following course policies and expectations apply to all parts of ENG 046:
Students are expected to:
1. attend all classes except in case of illness or emergency.
2. prepare for class by completing readings and assigned work in advance.
3. actively participate in classroom activities.
4. ask questions if they do not understand.
5. submit all assignments according to instructions, complete, and on time.
6. use instructor comments and feedback to improve future work.
7. cooperate with and act respectfully toward other students and the instructor.
8. communicate with the instructor about problems or concerns as soon as possible.
9. put focused and disciplined effort into the course assignments.
Attendance:
The university expects students to attend all classes in which they are enrolled. Regular attendance is
necessary if individuals are to excel. There is a direct correlation between attendance and academic
success. Attendance is mandatory. All students must arrive on time and prepared to learn at each class
session. At the instructor’s discretion, students may be marked absent if they arrive more than 15
minutes late to any class.
Disruptive Behavior:
Disruptive behavior is an activity that interferes with learning and teaching.
Inappropriate talking during class, tardiness, cheating, use of cell phone, etc. all disrupt the learning
process. Students who are found guilty of disruptive behavior face serious consequences.
Academic honesty:
The writing students do in ENG 046 must be their own. Presenting the work of others, whether it
is used without attribution (plagiarism) or submitted by students but written by someone else (cheating),
violates the university’s policy on academic integrity. Students who are found guilty of plagiarism or
cheating face serious consequences. According to the university policy, a largely or fully plagiarized
assignment should result in a grade of F for the course.

This is an introductory course in the second semester of the preparatory program in applied track and designed to
provide basic knowledge for solving problems using computers and to impart the necessary skills for the
development of applications. This course is a one semester course which meets three hours a week. The time is
divided between lecture and hands-on work in the computer laboratory. After Successful completion of the course,
the students should be able to:
• Gain knowledge about problem solving in computers, with the help of problem organization tools .
• Understand the modular concepts in programming and develop algorithms using sequential and decision logic
structures.
• Understand and develop algorithms using various loop logic structures.
• Obtain knowledge in using various types of arrays and applying the same in searching and sorting
methodologies.
• Gain basic knowledge in handling file system in computers.

Course Description
This course, Applied Sciences Stream Level 2, is a special English language course for students at the
Preparatory Programs Deanship who studied the course of Level 1. This course focuses on accuracy and
fluency in the four language skills (Listening, speaking, reading and writing) that improve student
outcomes by integrating language instruction into real-life contexts. It maintains a strategy-based
curriculum that aims at developing the all language skills. The textbooks used for this course are
characterized by a consistent unit sequence that includes vocabulary, life stories, grammar, everyday
conversation and real-life reading. The content of each unit is carefully presented to develop learners'
other skills in vocabulary and idioms that provide learners with the tools they need to achieve civic,
workplace, life-skills and academic competencies. The course, through these textbooks, focuses on
reading, writing and vocabulary, listening and speaking, grammar, and English for Specific Purposes
(ESP).
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Use advanced knowledge of word forms, grammar, and discourse markers to follow the flow of
ideas in a written text.
2. Identify main ideas, make inferences, and locate details in a written passage.
3. Summarize information from both oral and written sources.
4. Write words in blank spaces meaningfully.

2

Course Policy
The following course policies and expectations apply to all parts of ENG 047:
The writing students do in ENG 047 must be their own.
