A merry Christmas

• In Ukraine people prepare for Christmas on the second of January. Before Christmas people try to do all their important work. Also housewives clean the house, buy new things and tablecloth. By the way, people cook 12 meatless dishes. For example: kytia, beans, mushrooms, patties with cabbage, vareniki, holubtsi…

• There is a small custom. All memebers of the family must be at home. If somebody is absent, people put two plates on the

table

• After it, people always sings Christmas carols, some of them, especially people from Volyn, Podillya, Galichina spend divination. And next day they go to the church. So Ukrainian people love to celebrate Christmas.

St. Nicholas Day

• This holiday is celebrated on nineteenth of December. This day children look for presents under their pillows. This holiday got it name from Saint Mycola, who helped poor people and did it in a secret. So children always look forward this holiday.
