THE BRUTONENGLISH COURSEfor adults

Important features of the course:•k Emphasis on spoken English : many of the reading passages

are dialogues.

•A'Realistic and contemporary illustrations.

Tfc-The adventures of a group of young people of different

nationalities learning English in London link the lessons.

•£ Problems and games are used for structural work. Exercises

are not mechanical.

•^Additional material in the language laboratory drills.

•fc Detailed guidance and extra oral work in the teacher's books.

The author:J. G. BRUTON is Director of the British Institute, Madrid.

Summary of the Books:Book 1 has forty-two lessons usually in the form of dialogue,

simple narrative or letters, followed by practice with structures,

pronunciation and vocabulary. The pace is quick and stimulating.

Book 2 continues with a similar pattern to which new kinds of

work are added. There is most useful material for guided writing,

exercises based on illustrations and vocabulary practice. A

substantial revision section is included.

Book 3 presents, the remaining structural features of English.

This structural work includes more complicated verb structures

and close attention to adverbial and prepositional uses. Increasing

emphasis Is given to difficult aspects of vocabulary and meaning,

to writing and to comprehension.
