A Letter From The EditorsTo our KidsCo families,

KidsCo is thrilled to be opening enrollment for our fifteenth summer! We sure have come a long way since 1998. KidsCo began as just one summer camp program in the summer of 1999, with a handful of energized staff members, most of which still work for us today. Our vision was to create a summer camp experience unlike any other before and we believe that we have created that. During our first summer we started with twenty kids and by the end of summer, enrollment had tripled, and everyone involved knew that KidsCo had a good thing going.

Now fifteen years later, KidsCo has expanded to eight summer camps, two travel camps, and seventeen before and after school programs in Montgomery County. Additionally, in 2006 KidsCo’s sister company, KidsCo Jr., opened an early learning center in Damascus allowing for us to offer care to infants, toddlers, and pre-school children.

We are happy to announce that this summer KidsCo will be opening an additional summer camp location in Silver Spring at Montgomery Knolls Elementary School. This site will also offer travel camp options for kids and teens. If you are near the Silver Spring area, come join us for our inaugural summer at this wonderful location.

KidsCo is continuously growing because of all our amazing families! No matter how big it grows, how many staff members it employs, or how many children it enrolls, KidsCo will always hold true to its roots. We hope that your family will experience the KidsCo way in 2013. Come join us for a summer that you and your children will never forget!

The KidsCo Team

“We hope that your family will experience the KidsCo way in 2013. Come join us for a summer that you and your children will never forget!”

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhere is the camp?We are based at our KidsCo Jr. building on the grounds of Lois P. Rockwell Elementary School campus in Damascus. Our camp is based outdoors and days are planned around an activity rotation. Most of our events, lunches, Guests of Honor, group fitness times, and camp activities are outside in the grassy areas, tree shade, playgrounds, blacktops, and surrounding woods. Each group will rotate through our Game Room and Craft Corner which are within our air-conditioned rooms.

Who will be working with my child? Each of our team members are considered our most valuable resource and has been hand chosen to work with our campers. They are valued, appreciated, and encouraged to have input in the program, which fosters a sense of ownership. A background check and orientation training are also mandatory.

What measures are taken to keep my child safe?KidsCo Jr. has many procedures in place to ensure the safety of everyone at camp. Safety measures include monthly fire drills, CPR, and First Aid training for all staff, an identification policy for guests to pick up campers, emergency preparation, and electronically monitored entry ways.

What will my child enjoy at camp?Along with a new and exciting themes, each week is packed with activities! Water Day, Picnic Day, and a Play Day with instructors from FunFit! are scheduled around awesome activity rotations such as group games, sensory tables, tricycles, parachute time, and more. To enhance each theme we also complete art projects and host an amazing Guest of Honor each week. We bring the field trip to us!

Are there part-time options for my camper?Yes! Only the Jr. Camp offers a Half Day Option for families. Our Half Day hours are 9:00am-1:00pm, 5 days per week. Children who attend our camp for a Half Day will enjoy all of the activity time of the day and will go home right before our rest time and afternoon snack.

Trip/Water Safety & AccountabilityTo ensure that all of our children are safe and accounted for, below are some of the measures we have put in place. On Wednesday trip days, campers must wear their current KidsCo water shirt (This is the shirt that you pay for at the time of registration). You will receive your water shirt on your child’s first Wednesday at camp. We have children wear these shirts every Wednesday to help ensure safety by instant visual identification. In addition, all campers are required to wear a KidsCo wristband, color coded by camp location and marked with the Main Office phone number. We also require any child in Pre-K through first grade to wear an additional “Eyes On Me” wristband to further identify the campers who may not be strong swimmers. If you know your child is not a strong swimmer, regardless of grade level, the parent may request they wear one as well. Furthermore, on pool days we take the extra step on pool days and provide what we call a “Watcher on Duty”. These staff are strategically placed around the perimeter of the pool to provide additional support to the lifeguards on duty. Additionally, to further provide a quick visual for campers and pool staff, our team is clearly identified by their KidsCo swimsuits. Campers are overseen throughout the day by their counselors who take scheduled attendance. Our Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade groups remain together with their counselors at all times.

Our Extraordinary StaffWe know that some of our campers’ best memories are those that they share with our amazing KidsCo staff members, and that’s why we make it our top priority to hire the best of the best out there! Our Directors are seasoned veterans who are with us year after year. Their experience with children, scheduling, traveling and staff motivation is impeccable. A majority of our staff members are employed with KidsCo year round, or are college students who return to us summer after summer. Many of our staff are first aid/CPR certified, and all employees must go through a state and federal background check. KidsCo campers, get ready to meet the most dedicated and energetic team of staff members around when you step foot on the grounds of KidsCo this summer!

KidsCo is excited to offer a day trip camp that caters to campers entering third through sixth grade. Our Kids

On-The-Run day trip camp is a version of our popular Teens On-The-Run camp; we’ve just geared it towards our younger campers! It offers the fun and exciting day trips that the kids love, yet it keeps the trips more age appropriate. All of our trips boast a 10:1 or better camper to staff ratio. Our Kids On-The-Run camp is a great intro for the future Teens On-The-Run camper!

TransportationBus time is a large component of a day at camp. Keeping in mind that your child spends a portion of each day on a bus, we feel that working consistently with a bus company and its drivers is extremely important. We boast an eleven year relationship with a local bus company, which ensures that we

can openly communicate with them at all times regarding transportation of

our campers.A bus ride with Kids On-

The-Run is not your usual commute! Each ride becomes an experience in itself with daily activities

to provide entertainment and an opportunity to get to know your fellow campers and staff. Some daily activities include

“Challenge Monday” filled with puzzles and games to

challenge your skills, “Bus Color Day” to showcase your spirit,

and “Freestyle Friday” to show off your talents!

Safety & Accountability

During all trips, safety is our foremost concern. We take

precautionary and practical measures to ensure the safety of all of our On-The-Run Day Trip Camp groups.

These measures include but are not limited to:

• Each Monday a photo is taken of your child to keep on file with the Director.

• All staff members are equipped with a two way radio, providing constant contact with one another at all times.

• All camper emergency information is kept with the Director at all times.

• The Director’s mobile number is always accessible to your child via their KidsCo wristband.

• All On-The-Run Directors and Assistant Directors are first aid & CPR certified.

• Staff shirts and bathing suits are worn every day making our staff as visible as possible.

• Current trip shirts are required on all Wednesday trips, while at large theme parks and sporting events.

Teens On-The-Run (TOR) is our popular teen travel

component of KidsCo. TOR caters to older campers, 7th grade to 9th grade,

who are able to enjoy more freedom and independence. We aim to create exciting

opportunities for memorable and lasting friendships in a controlled,

safe, exciting, and adventurous environment. Bonds are created that stay with our campers and

team members for years to come.
