Global Research Network

Variety adaptation to local conditions is paramount. DLF research stations are strategically located around the globe to develop the varieties that meet that requirement. These research stations are complemented with independent third party locations to extend the environments in which the newest product developments are trialed.

Canadian Product Development

We operate the most extensive private forage testing program in Canada. This rigourous testing gives us an unmatched level of genetic advancement and an ability to identify varieties with superior yield, persistence, faster regrowth, exceptional forage quality and superior disease resistance, specifically for Canadian conditions.

Our trials adhere to well-recognized government and university testing protocols, which require replicated testing (four plots of each variety in each trial). This thorough testing protocol ensures that only the best adapted varieties are advanced to commercial product offerings.

Canadian Performance Trials

Canadian trials ensure Canadian performance on Canadian farms. Trials with true head-to-head comparisons are imperative to show how varieties perform in the same trial, in the same harvest year.

When we report trial results for one variety compared to another, all of the data is from the same trials, the same years, the same conditions and against the same checks, providing true head-to-head comparisons.

We are the Forage Leaders.

We start with performance trials and testing programs to develop proprietary forage products. We then contract our forage seed needs with highly skilled Canadian seed growers, who work closely with our experienced field representatives to ensure our seed crops are of top quality. Our expert sales and technical staff are always ready to support and assist with forage product choices and agronomic needs.

More milk...

In forage, fibre digestibility is one of the most important quality measures. The main benefit of high fibre digestibility is an increase in milk production.

1% increase in fibre digestibility (DNDF) = + 0.25 litres milk per cow per day

The importance of high fibre digestibility is supported by independent research work that is well acknowledged throughout the world. Fibre digestibility is a key focus of the DLF global research platform.

NEW SiloSolve® MC: Bacterial Inoculant for Microbial ControlUndesirable fermentation can occur when there is a lack of oxygen. The growth of some undesirable organisms leads to the breakdown of protein and butyric acid production. Silages of this type have a strong odour and elevated pH, which can reduce palatability.

SiloSolve® MC is a silage additive containing three strains of lactic acid bacteria. One strain (L. lactis SR3.54) is patented for its ability to reduce undesirable microbial fermentation. The other two work to enhance overall fermentation.

Targeted crops are alfalfa, grass and grass/clover at 25-35 % dry matter.

NEW SiloSolve® AS: Bacterial Inoculant for Aerobic StabilityMost farmers experience heating of silage due largely to the growth of yeast and mold. Good management, including proper compaction, reduces the heat. However, some crops, such as corn, heat more often than other crops.

Yeast and mold are fungi that grow well in the presence of oxygen. Yeasts initiate the heating of silage and molds usually follow. Certain molds produce harmful mycotoxins. Mycotoxins may compromise production and health of animals.

SiloSolve® AS contains two fast growing and competitive lactic acid bacteria and a unique strain of Lactobacillus buchneri. This specific bacterial strain combination improves fermentation processes and inhibits yeast and mold growth resulting in improved aerobic stability at feed out.

Target crop for SiloSolve® AS is corn at 25-35 % dry matter.
