A Vision of RevivalBy Bryan Baysinger, State Evangelist

In Ezekiel the 37 chapter we see one ofth

the most beautiful restoration and revivalpromises in the Bible. This prophecy wasgiven by Ezekiel concerning the House ofIsrael (37:11). The House of Israel wasthe Northern Kingdom or the 10-tribedKingdom. This Kingdom was destroyedby the Assyrians and never returned, as awhole, to the land. However, the prophetis shown a vision of hope for this people.

Even though this prophecy is concerningthe House of Israel, which is still to havecompletion in the future, we can learnmuch and apply it to our day and hour.“The hand of the Lord was upon me“(37:1) O, to have the favor andsanctioning of God that His hand is uponyou. His signature of approval! We arechosen by God to fulfill His purpose inthe Kingdom, just like Ezekiel. To bechosen by God means to have the favor ofGod. His called out ones! If we are goingto have revival we must operate in the willof God. He must have His hand upon us,anointing us and guiding our paths.

Ezekiel goes on to say that, “He broughtme out by the Spirit”. Yahweh hadsomething of importance to show to thisprophet. This was a spiritual bringing out;not a physical bringing out. We shoulddesire to be transported into the realm ofthe supernatural. We must see withspiritual sight and understanding. TheApostle Paul relates to having seen thethird heaven, in the Spirit. We must get tothe place in God where we are able todiscern things in the Spirit. This type ofsupernatural power is what will set usapart from the world. God will still leadand show us the way if we are willingvessels; having our lives consecrated toHim. We were created by God to see andexperience the dimensions of thesupernatural.

We must be led by the Roach Hakodesh(Holy Spirit). Without Him we cannotpeer into the realm of spiritual things. Thenatural man is not allowed on this journeybecause he cannot see and understand theoperation of the Sprit. Many things in lifecome only through spiritual discernment.

If there has ever been a time in thehistory of Christianity that we need tosee through the eyes and mind of the

Spirit it is now. What an awesomeprivilege to see through the eyes of God.To see through His eyes means that wemust take on a whole new perspective. The Lord wanted Ezekiel to have a newoutlook and vision for the House of Israelinstead of the one that was true for the dayin which he lived. He wanted him to knowwhat the future held in store. The propervision is important. If we are going tohave true revival we must haveenlightenment. We cannot look at the waythings seem to be (valley of dry bones)but we must see the potential with God.

“He caused me to pass by them allaround” (37:2) Have you ever been to alarge graveyard? What kind of thoughtswould run through your mind as youwalked around in the city of the dead? Mymind often wonders about the lives of thepeople who once lived. Likewise,Ezekiel’s mind was wondering who thesepeople had been. God made Ezekiel passback and forth amongst them. God wantedhim to see the full scope of what wasgoing on in this vision of death.

Ezekiel would eventually find out whothese dry bones represented and howsignificant they were to the Lord;although at first he could only see deathwith no hope of life. This vision had moreto do with a spiritual death than withphysical death. The House of Israel stilllived, scattered by captivity, but it hadfallen into a deep, deep spiritual deathwhen it chose idol worship over theworship of the one true God. When welook around our world do we see thisspiritual death surrounding us? Weshould! In the natural, mankind appears tobe somewhat ok. Yet, from a spiritualperspective dry bones are everywhere. Ifwe cannot see these dry bonessurrounding us then something is wrongwith our spiritual eyesight.

As we view our world from the spiritualprospective it may look very grim. Nodoubt things looked pretty grim to Ezekielin his valley. On the other hand can werespond to God the way that Ezekiel didwhen asked, “Can these bones live?” His

response was, “O sovereign Lord, Youalone know.” Mankind may look prettydesperate but our God is still a miracleworking God. He can still make dry boneslive, even in this day and hour.

Then Ezekiel was told to speak to thebones so that they would live. He was tospeak the Word of the Lord over them.Have you ever heard of having aconversation with the dead? If not, thenyou should try it sometimes. We need torecognize the power of the spoken Word.In order to have revival we must choose tospeak in the power of the Word. His Wordstill brings conviction to the life of thespiritually dead. It still brings life! Wemust make a declaration over those whoneed reviving. We need to speak life to adying and lost world on a daily basis.

Notice that the dry bones in Ezekiel’svision was to the House of Israel. It wasnot to a pagan nation that had never heardof Yahweh before. How many of ourbrothers and sisters in the Lord havewondered away from the sheepfold andneed someone to speak life over them andbring them back to the ways of the Lord?

Ezekiel prophesied as commanded and bythe time his vision had ended, the wholevalley of dry bones had become a mightyarmy. Many times God’s people get to thethreshold of breakthrough and they stop. We cannot and must not give up, give out,or give in to the enemy. Our mighty armymay be just over the horizon.

Can you see the dry bones? Speak theWords of life! Press On! A mighty armyis coming!

Church Ministry

What is Church Ministry and the purpose of Church Ministry? Christian ministry is the activity and responsibility of the localchurch in the fulfillment of its biblically defined mandate inthe world. The ministry of the church can be defined in severalways:

1. The Great Commandment says “You should love the Lordwith all your heart, soul and mind. And, you should love yourneighbour as yourself” (Matt. 22:37, 39).2. And in the Great Commission Jesus told us to “go into allthe world and make disciples, teaching them the ways of God”(Matt. 28:19-20).

The early church was a model of Church Ministry: teachingthe apostles’ doctrine, engaging in fellowship, commemoratingthe breaking of bread, praying together, caring for one another, worshiping God, and actively evangelizing the community(Acts 2:42-47). This continues to be the standard for abiblical, balanced ministry today.

From these scriptures, it is evident that Christian/ChurchMinistry has as its priority the worship of God, followed byservice for God in declaring the Gospel and edifying theSaints. God has laid out for us in Scripture what the ministryof the church is. We don’t decide why the church exits (itspurpose) nor what it is supposed to do (its mission). God hasalready done that because the church is His institution on earthnot ours! Our responsibility is to determine how to mosteffectively and appropriately achieve our biblical “GreatCommission” in our local community at our time in history.

The early church knew exactly why they existed and wherethey were going and all their activity was focused on achievingthose ends. Ministry is a vocation in which it is very easy toget caught up with activities that are not necessary or part ofthe church’s program (Commission) on earth. We need tokeep on course in our own ministry, doing what God has calledus and directed us to do. Below are some areas of ChurchMinistry:

The foundation for Church Ministry is the accurate andrelevant teaching and preaching of God’s Word. It is theresponsibility of the pastor to instruct God’s people in thewhole counsel of God (Acts 20:27). This provides God’speople with the spiritual nourishment that they need to “growin grace and the knowledge of our Lord; equips the saints forthe work of the ministry and builds up the body of Christ tocome into the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Sonof God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of thefulness of Christ ((Eph. 4:7-16). It is also done by smallgroups, individual mentoring and discipleship and pulpitministry. The most supreme importance is that the Word ispreached and taught accurately and relevantly. The Bibletruths are Spirit-empowered proclaiming of God’s Word, accurately, clearly, authoritatively and practically, with theSpirit transforming a response in the listeners.

Church Ministry in Prayer. An active and powerful prayer

ministry is necessary for sustaining and growth of believers. Prayer should be part of the life of the church on a consistentbasis and must begin with the example of the church leaders. Prayer Ministry is in the forms of small groups, prayer teams, prayer partners, corporate prayer, and individual prayer. Prayer is survival to a church.

Church Ministry has to been empowered by the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, “after that the Holy Ghostis come upon you: and “ye shall be witnesses....”. The HolySpirit can and does make the ministry of the church effectiveand powerful. He alone convicts sinners and changes(transforms) people’s lives so they can walk in the will of Godand in the image of God’s Son. The Holy Spirit gives uspower to live holy, godly lives, and above sin. He helpsminister God’s Word with power and shines light to us that wemight understand God’s Word.

Church Ministry is made up of United Believers. Whenbelievers are interconnected through authentic, lovingrelationships, they form a unity that provides strength andstability to the church. This is shown by caring for each otherphysically, emotionally, economically, and spiritually. Thesebelievers support each other in various tasks, in prayer, andlove.

An expression of Church Ministry is passionate worship.Worship is showing honor and great worth to our Creator. Vibrant and dynamic worship is necessary to the life andhealth of a church as a body and its members personally. Itmust be a daily practice for all believers individually in orderfor corporate worship to be effective and meaningful. Besidesour private worship, our public worship includes singingpraises to God, reading Scripture, praying together, andpreaching God’s Word. We worship from our heart becauseof the gratitude of who God is and what God has done for us.

Church Ministry cares for the Lost. Church Ministries carefor their own believers but they reach out to the unbelievers. Itproclaims the goodness of God in the gospel to reach lostpeople. The gospel (good news) should be preached and thepeople should be trained and motivated to tell others the wayof salvation. Thus, they become a light for God in theircommunity. It is the job of church leaders to train members inpersonal outreach, and motivate participation in worldoutreach.

Church Ministry is not to “do” church but we are to “be” thechurch. It is not a ritual religion but a living relationship withGod. It is not altogether about numbers but spiritual growth. Not about programs, but about people focused on God,powerfully filled with the Spirit, that exalt Christ, openlyperform works of faith, teach the truth, boldly declare thegospel and depends on prayer.

Excerpts from Dr. Roger Pascoe, President -The Institute for BiblicalPreaching ; “What is Church Ministry”

SOPAS 2012 ReportAlabama CGP Sept. 12-15, 2012

There is something enriching about family getting togetherfor any reason. Isaiah 52:7 states it perfectly: How beautifulon the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaimsalvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (NIV). Of coursewhen “family” has like-minded faith and purpose, atranscending element of love and spirit-bonding occurs thatisn’t evident anywhere in secular events. Such love andspirit was the hallmark of the September 2012 SOPASclasses in Alabama.

From the moment attendees entered Camp Boothe’s gate, there was a sense of “something special” in the air. We couldall feel it, but not necessarily explain this anticipation. Wewere sure that we would not be disappointed here and aswe fellowshipped together, our confidence increased.Attitudes were positive as we connected with each other and

with the Spirit.

Then we entered the Chapel and class began. The Holy Spirit’s anointing was evident upon our StateOverseer and the CBL staff who superbly challenged us with knowledge and understanding. Bishop Dr.Hector Ortiz, Bishop Mark Menke and Bishop Adrian L. Varlack submitted themselves to the Spirit and wewere challenged to climb to a higher level of leadership excellence.

Despite important family and CGP responsibilities, Bishop L. V. Jones did a superb job of directing thiscrucial training school for members, ministers, and pastors. We, the ministers and members of theChurch of God of Prophecy in Alabama, sincerely esteem him highly and respect his leadership example.

In his Theology Perspectives class, Dr. Ortiz took us out in the depths of theological waters; beyond theankles, beyond the knees, beyond the waist; out where swimming is necessary. And in some cases, that isexactly what our heads were doing – swimming – because the concepts are so profoundly precious theymust be meditated upon at length in an unhurried manner. Dr. Ortiz unveiled the hermeneutical circle, which finds its center in the Triune God. Then he highlighted the differences between the Kingdom of Godand the Church. Since Dr. Ortiz had to leave early, Bishop Menke finished his class for him, instructing usto be more discerning in our ministries.

Bishop Menke’s class on Ministerial Formation built on the sound footing Dr. Ortiz had laid. Hehighlighted the various aspects of pastoral mentoring. This class superbly supported the Alabama CGP’scurrent effort to implement the internship program. Once or twice Bishop Menke eased over into thepreaching mode and the Spirit of God moved across the congregation of students in waves of glory. Hedid a spectacular job of unpacking the concepts of Ministerial Formation, Discipleship and Mentoring.Like Dr. Ortiz, he took us to depths of consideration that require careful meditation and reflection inorder to synthesize it with our ministry.

Finally, but with just as much anointed gusto, Bishop Varlack taught and preached on the subject ofEcclesial Formation, delving into the underlying spiritual and historical contexts of the Church. He

Page 5: Alabama Update November 2012

SOPAS 2012 ReportAlabama CGP Sept. 12-15, 2012

inspired us with our mission as he deftly explained the practical operations of the Church in its “catholic”context. He challenged us to climb to a higher level of understanding as he described the Church of God ofProphecy’s place in that wider context. He issued a challenge for us – the CGP – “to recover our mission”in the world. Bishop Varlack also encouraged us to guard ourselves and those we serve “against beingsucked into the vortex of this world’s tornadic deterioration.” He properly asserted that in thecontemporary atmosphere of increasing anti-Christ sentiment, we need “the strength of Bible-believing,Christ-honoring churches.” He ended his class with the exhortation to be loyal and faithful to the Churchof God of Prophecy because she is “Christ-centered, biblically-based, depending on God and proclaims theGospel.”

The school wasn’t all serious study. We had fun too! (Not to infer that the study wasn’t fun). Our State Bishop’s humor always came at the right moment to accentuate the serious points we wereconsidering in class. The “humor” he shared was usually at the beginning of a “break” or just after we hadfinished one. But the levity was always refreshing. Thank God for a leader who can laugh with us andinstigate fun.

It was a great honor and pleasure to have the CGP Overseer of Arizona-Nevada, Bishop Jose Riveravisiting with us. We were blessed by his wise comments at appropriate moments in the classes. Hisinsight and examples provided a real hands-on flavor to the discussion.

As always the Camp Boothe cooks provided excellent food. They were jovial and kind, encouraging us toeat and be nourished. They were punctual with preparation and even ahead of schedule at times. Ourheartfelt gratitude for their sacrificial service cannot be adequately expressed with words. We pray God’sreward will be great for each of them.

And of course our mutual fellowship . . . WOW! This aspect of the SOPAS school cannot be overstated. It issuch an essential element of discipleship and spiritual maturity that we cannot afford to hold trainingclasses bereft of fellowship. It was a great place and venue to share ourselves with one another.

We were all blessed! I spoke with several people personally and overheard other conversations and allthe accolades were similar. In addition, I asked other members of the Leadership DevelopmentCommittee for any student responses they had heard. Here is a common sampling of student remarks:

“We learned a lot. The instructors were great. They stayed onpoint. Of course, the breaks could have been a little longer.”Someone said, “the breaks could have come sooner because it ishard to concentrate when the backside or kidneys need a break.”

“I was blessed. It’s a lot to grasp in such a short time. Man, I havebeen challenged. It was great! I’ll be telling others to come nexttime.”

Looking forward to the Sept. 2013 class.

Respectfully,Sylvester Smith, DMin.

Let me share with you our news.

On September 20, 2012 we held quarterlyinterchurch conference in Berezino city. That conference was attended by peoplefrom five different churches. The main

purpose of this event was to bring peoplecloser to God. And we all had realencounter with God!

There were different speakers and twoworship teams. And of course we all hadvery good fellowship time. I understandthat is very important that people frommany churches can get together andencourage one another. Also thisconference was dedicated to celebrate 19years of our ministry. 19 years ago me withmy wife came to unknown to us city and

planted there a church.

On the next week we continued tocelebrate at our Minsk church. 8 years agoin the same time of the year we planted achurch in Minsk. My family and I movedfrom Berezino to that city with the visionto work with students. It was a greatSunday service! After that the wholechurch had a lunch together and everybodywas served with free cup of cappuccino.

Starting from October our church startedBible Reading plan. I was surprised by theresponses in the home groups and Fridaynight prayers. People everywhere sharetheir revelations from Genesis. It inspiredme to share about this with other churches.I really believe that the church andespecially new believers should learn toread the Bible every day.

In the next two weeks we plan to hold twospecial services: for youth and families. The church make all what we can to invitenon believers. We use Facebook, personalinvitation and cards. Because the mainpurpose of these events is to evangelizeour community.

Please pray for our city that the people beopen to receive Jesus Christ into theirlives.

With love,

Gena
