Safari Club International Continues Support of Congressional
Sportsmen’s Foundation
Congressional Sportsmen
Washington, DC --(Ammoland.com)- Safari Club International (SCI)
and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) are pleased to
announce SCI’s continued support of CSF and its programs: the
Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC), the National Assembly of
Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) and the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus
(GSC).
SCI is a founding supporter of the Congressional Sportsmen’s
Foundation with contributions exceeding $850,000 since 1989. SCI
continues to recognize the value CSF brings as organizing force for
federal and state legislation to provide bi-partisan access to pro-
sportsmen legislators to defend our hunting traditions and privileges.
“CSF and SCI have been working together over a 20 year
partnership and SCI is excited to continue our commitment
for another year,” said SCI President Dr. Larry Rudolph.
“Together we can advance our priority legislation and work
with members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus to
preserve our hunting heritage.”
SCI and its members also regularly attend CSF functions, such as the
Annual Banquet and Auction in Washington, DC, the Richard Childress
“Wine, Wheels and Wildlife,” the Congressional Shoot-Out and NASC
Annual Summit.
“There isn’t a more supportive group for our programs,
events and legislative priorities than SCI,” said CSF President
Jeff Crane. “They understand the importance of having the
sportsmen’s voice heard by government officials and the
value of having a seat at the table with access to elected
representatives.”
Safari Club Internationa
Safari Club International and its approximately 190 chapters are
contributing time, talent, and financial support to local, national, and
international hunter advocacy and conservation projects. SCI has spent
nearly $300 million on hunter advocacy and wildlife conservation since
inception. Through direct involvement and partnerships with like-
minded organizations, SCI has become a political force in Washington,
D.C. and other capitals around the world.
For over 20 years, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation has been
the voice of the American sportsmen by protecting our interests and
traditions in the halls of government. CSF is a non-partisan, non-profit
organization with decades of combined public policy and political
experience with unprecedented access to one of the largest, oldest and
most effective caucuses in the U.S. Congress – the Congressional
Sportsmen’s Caucus. In state capitols throughout the nation, nearly half
of the nation’s chief executives are part of the Governors Sportsmen’s
Caucus and nearly 2,000 state legislators make up the National
Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses.

Former Prison Guard finds Happiness, Success and Profit
Gunsmithing
An American Gunsmithing Institute Testimonial.
American Gunsmithing Institute
Napa, CA --(Ammoland.com)- Jan-Steven Merson is a successful
example of an individual with a passion for firearms wanting to make a
change.
After retiring from a career in Law Enforcement with the Department of
Corrections, Jan wanted to do something that he enjoyed and still make
money.
With an interest in firearms and firearms safety, he began the searching
online to find a gunsmith program. What he found was that most
Gunsmithing schools required a large commitment of time and expense.
They also extensively relied on textbooks as their teaching method. Jan
preferred to learn by doing and didn’t want to travel to classes or spend
the time reading volumes of information. Then he discovered the
American Gunsmith Institute. The step-by-step DVD courses they
offered were just the answer for his style of learning.
The American Gunsmithing Institute (AGI) is the World’s Premier
Gunsmithing School and through its exclusive systematic method of
video instruction has educated more Working Gunsmiths than all other
Gunsmithing Schools combined. Instruction is provided in the comfort
of the students own home, on their own time schedule and at a greatly
reduced cost from traditional classroom settings. AGI has been
transforming people and their careers for over 17 years.
Within three months, Jan had set up his business, American Firearms &
Gunsmith in Fullerton, California and began to offer a variety of
gunsmith services. Word got out and now, four years later, Jan is a very,
very busy gunsmith. He credits the AGI gunsmith program for his
competitive edge. He can reference the DVD’s again and again while in
his shop and he believes that the up-to-date information provided in the
AGI DVD’s give him the knowledge and skill set customers demand
today. It keeps them coming back for more and more services from his
shop. Because the firearms industry is ever changing, Jan continues to
invest in his Gunsmithing education by investing in new AGI courses as
they become available featuring new guns.
Jan may still be doing business in his garage, but with the addition of his
website, word-of-mouth, and a talent for gun repair, he is now earning
over $100,000.00 annually and is thinking it’s time to expand the
business to a storefront.
Jan summed up his American Gunsmithing Institute
experience by saying, “Do it. You may say I really don’t have
the money to lay out. Well, look at it as a short investment.
You can make money almost instantly while taking the course
and start paying yourself back. Think of it like this; if you put
your money away in a CD, you have to wait for a year in order
to get it back – with little interest! With AGI, you can start
getting it back almost instantly. So, you can wait a year to
make a profit or start now with AGI!”
Unlike most trade schools, the AGI program allows you to complete the
program in as little as three months, studying from home, through video
instruction which is packed with current information on the design,
function and repair of firearms. With over 108 hours of video instruction
in pistols and revolvers, rifles, shotguns, .22’s and more.
You will also receive instruction on what tools to purchase, how to set up
a shop with just a small investment and run a successful business.
Students also receive written and practical application testing during the
program and when completed, receive their certification ready to hang
on the wall and announce they are open for business.
Just as Jan Merson found out, you can make a good living at
something you love to do.
About American Gunsmithing Institute:

FL Sen. Bogdanoff Files OpenCarry Crippling AmendmentAGAINAPR 26, 2011 07:56P.M.
FL Sen. Bogdanoff Files Open Carry Crippling Amendment
AGAIN – SB 234
Florida Open Carry
Florida --(Ammoland.com)- If you have been keeping track of SB 234,
you’ll remember that Senator Ellyn Bogdanoff (R-Fort Lauderdale)
introduced an amendment to the Senate Judiciary Committee that would
have stripped out the open carry provision of the bill in favor of
subjective language that would exempt inadvertent exposure of one’s
firearm as punishable under law.
Realizing she didn’t have the votes necessary to get the amendment
adopted, Sen. Bogdanoff withdrew the amendment.
On the eve of the floor vote of SB 234, Sen. Bogdanoff has again
introduced the exact same language as a floor amendment.
The amendment only addresses inadvertent exposure, and does nothing
to improve other situations in which general open carry is the only
solution. For example, the amendment would not legalize open carry
when hiking, when entering or exiting a vehicle, when on any private
property other than one’s own residence or place of business. Most
troubling is the fact that the determination of what is “inadvertent”
would remain in the hands of law enforcement.
The Florida Sheriffs Association is walking the halls of the Senate,
lobbying heavily against the bill, saying that they cannot find any
prosecutions on the books concerning accidental exposure. This is a
small consolation to those who have been detained for hours, disarmed,
handcuffed, proned out, held at gunpoint, and booked, only to be
released when the State Attorney or District Attorney found no crime
with which to pursue prosecution.
In fact, just last week, an individual was “printing” in a Hillsborough
county restaurant and a patron called in a “suspicious person” call. The
individual was pulled over by four HCSO cruisers after leaving the
restaurant, and was removed from the vehicle, disarmed, handcuffed,
and detained while sitting on the curb AFTER PROVIDING HIS CWFL
for over a half-hour.
During this time, he was subjected to leading questions like, “What war
are you preparing for?” and “Why do you feel you need to carry a
firearm?” He was told that the only reason he was being released rather
than transported was because the caller incorrectly stated the firearm
bulge was on his right side, and his firearm was on his left side.
This is exactly the type of situation open carry would eliminate. Imagine
what would have happened had he had his children with him in the
vehicle at the time?
Please take the time to contact the Senators below, and ask them to
reject the amendment and vote on the bill based on its merits.
Feel free to use the e-mail helper below, and thank you again for your
solid support.

SUBJECT:
Reject Sen. Bogdanoff’s amendment on SB 234
Dear Senator,
Senator Bogdanoff has introduced a floor amendment to SB
234 that would cripple the bill’s multiple purpose. This
amendment was originally proposed to the Judiciary
Committee, and was subsequently withdrawn due to lack of
support.
I urge you to reject Sen. Bogdanoff’s amendment as it does
not address any rationale for open carry other than
inadvertent exposure. A licensed carrier would still be
prohibited from carrying openly while hiking, while
entering or exiting a vehicle, while visiting a neighbor’s
property despite their permission, and any other
appropriate situation. Lacking a firm definition of what is
“inadvertent”, it also places that subjective determination in
the hands of law enforcement, whose administration is set
against any expansion of 2nd Amendment rights.
Please vote favorably on the bill as it is written and resist the
temptation to take the easy way out by watering down its
effectiveness. Your response to this bill is without a doubt a
direct reflection on your view of the 1.95 million past and
present law-abiding and responsible licenseholders.
Respectfully yours,
About: Florida Open Carry is a grass roots movement of Florida

Supercharge Antler Growth And Herd Health With Rack One’s
New Xcellerator Mineral Supplement
Rack One Xcellerator Mineral Supplement
Rack one
GRAYLING, Mich. --(Ammoland.com)- After many years of extensive
research, development and real-world testing, the results are in, and
they’re unanimous.
Whitetail deer absolutely crave the new Xcellerator premium mineral
supplement from Rack One’s IGNITE Whitetail Hunting System.
Wherever it’s been used, deer have become completely addicted after as
little as one time over an Xcellerator mineral pit. More importantly,
hunters and land managers have reported amazing gains in antler
growth and overall herd health after using Xcellerator either alone or as
part of the IGNITE System.
From the moment sheds hit the ground, deer begin antler growth at the
cellular level, and that’s the perfect time to begin providing them with
the best mineral product on the market, Xcellerator. Without it, your
deer won’t maximize their potential for antler growth—and success in
this business is measured in inches.
“After you’ve taken the time to condition your deer and get
them healthy following the rut and hard winter, it’s time to
start them growing,” said Casey Keefer, co-owner at Rack
One.
“Our Grow Phase product, Xcellerator, is a high-quality,
powerful mineral product. By utilizing our Grow Phase at the
proper time of year, hunters and land managers are further
assuring that their herd is healthy.”
Antler growing and fawning seasons run concurrently. This is when
whitetails begin grazing on new green foliages, and their bodies are
taking in every single vitamin, mineral and nutrient available.
Xcellerator’s top-secret irresistible recipe provides all the vital minerals,
nutrients and vitamins in scientifically developed proportions to grow
deer. Additionally, when used in conjunction with the Condition Phase
product, Overload, Xcellerator helps aid does through lactation and fawn
rearing.
Xcellerator regulates many different aspects of the inner workings of the
deer’s system. While most whitetail deer can find many of the vitamins
and nutrients that they need in their natural surroundings, that doesn’t
always mean that they can find them in the quantities that their bodies
require. Most plants that a deer forages on during the spring and
summer months do not contain significant levels of sodium. Sodium is a
necessary nutrient in whitetails, as it helps to regulate their blood
pressure and the amount of fluid that their body is able to retain during
the “dog days” of summer. While they can find sources of sodium in
nature, those sources are rarely found in the quantities that whitetails
need.
When whitetails set out in search of what they know their bodies need, in
this case sodium, they come upon Xcellerator, which boasts a sodium
base of approximately 50 percent of the total content. This high
concentration of sodium acts as a conduit into which other minerals can
be introduced to their systems. Each and every whitetail that spends
time devouring an Xcellerator pit to get the sodium that they require is

also ingesting a very wide range of other extremely beneficial minerals at
the same time.
Most competing mineral supplements on the market are 98 percent salt
or more, and they provide deer with no other true mineral
supplementation aside from sodium.
“Think of Xcellerator as killing two birds with one stone:
you’re giving them the sodium they need while packing their
bodies full of other vital vitamins, minerals and nutrients,”
said Keefer. “While the higher sodium levels required usually
peak in bucks during the late summer and early fall, mineral
pits can offer huge advantages to early-season hunters
looking to use them as attractants. Most bucks are still in
feeding patterns, and the deer have not yet begun to act
‘spooky.’ As they unsuspectingly make their way to their
favorite Xcellerator pit, an anxiously awaiting hunter can be
there to greet them.”
Now is the time to turn your deer herd on to the amazing rack-growing
power and exceptional nutritional value of Xcellerator, the singular
product of the IGNITE Grow Phase. The suggested retail price of the 5-
pound bag of Xcellerator is $14.99. Buy it online at www.huntrack1.com,
or ask for it by name at your local sporting goods store.
About IGNITE
Rack One’s scientifically engineered IGNITE Whitetail Hunting System
provides 365 days of complete whitetail nutrition and attraction for your
herd. The IGNITE system addresses the evolving needs with a
comprehensive line of products that contain tailored levels of nutritional
supplements such as protein and fat. This system is comprised of four
specific phases—Condition, Grow, Scout, and Hunt. After the rut ends,
it’s time to rebuild your herd health in the Condition Phase with
Overload, the post-season calorie-consumption feed that helps your
bucks recover from the strenuous schedule of fighting, chasing and
breeding. As your deer herd stabilizes, the Grow Phase begins with
Xcellerator, which is packed with the minerals and nutrients that
promote herd health and growth while maximizing antler development
among the bucks. When it’s time to set out the trail cams, it’s also time to
begin the Scout Phase with the protein and fat-packed Chaos. In Hunt
Phase, you’re ready to reign in those deer with Rut Fuel and Acorn
Crush, the extremely powerful premium attractants that bring the deer
to the foot of your stand and keep them there.

OGDEN, Utah --(Ammoland.com)- The National Shooting Sports
Foundation has awarded a $50,000 challenge grant to help fund the
educational and outreach campaign created by the nonprofit Tread
Lightly! called “Respected Access is Open Access.”
This grant will help fund an important element of the campaign—the
production costs of a minimum of 250 information kiosks to be provided
to the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and state
agencies that manage America’s public lands. These important education
and information tools will be placed on public lands throughout the
nation to encourage responsible behavior in America’s great outdoors.
“Careless behavior by even a few hunters or target shooters is
damaging to the image of all,” said Chris Dolnack, senior vice
president and chief marketing officer of NSSF, the trade
association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and
shooting sports industry. “Our challenge grant of $50,000 to
Tread Lightly! furthers NSSF’s commitment to promoting
good sportsmanship. We encourage others to take up the
challenge and help fund this education initiative.”
Respected Access is Open Access was officially launched in late 2009 at
the request of the Federal Lands Hunting and Shooting Sports
Roundtable. The campaign works to improve the behavior of outdoor
recreationists on public and private land and addresses littering, careless
behavior by hunters and target shooters, illegal dumping, straying from
the trail and other issues. The ultimate goal of this movement is to
protect and enhance access and opportunities for people so they can
enjoy recreational shooting, hunting and other outdoor activities now
and in the future.
“This is a remarkable gift that will give us the ability to truly
take the campaign to the next level,” said Lori McCullough,
Tread Lightly!’s executive director. “With this grant, NSSF is
also challenging us to find matching funding from other like-
minded companies and organizations. We will be working
hard this year to accomplish this goal.”
Part of the match has already been made by Yamaha Motor Company,
which plans to award a $20,000 grant to Tread Lightly! this spring
through its OHV Access Initiative to help further advance the campaign,
especially for the OHV community.
As the trade association for the firearms industry, NSSF’s mission is to
promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed
in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 6,000 manufacturers,
distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen’s
organizations and publishers.
More information about the Respected Access is Open Access campaign
and its partners can be found at respectedaccess.org.
Tread Lightly!, Inc. is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to
promote responsible outdoor recreation through ethics education and
stewardship. Tread Lightly! is the nation’s signature ethics message for
all outdoor enthusiasts—especially those that use motorized vehicles.
The organization also offers unique training and restoration programs
strategically designed to instill an ethic of responsibility in a wide variety
of outdoor enthusiasts and the industries that serve them.

Whitetail Properties Introduces Online-Only Farm Real Estate
Auction Platform
Whitetail Properties Farm Real Estate Auction
Whitetail Properties
Pittsfield, IL -(Ammoland.com)- Whitetail Properties, a real estate listing
and auction business that unites buyers and sellers through its team of
farm and ranch land specialists, has just made it easier for those buyers
and sellers to do business.
Whitetail Properties’ new online-only auction platform will offer great
convenience to buyers who will be able to bid on tracts of land from
anywhere that has Internet connection.
Whitetail Properties auctioneers already conduct live onsite auctions but
saw the need to add an Internet-only auction, which can save the seller

both time and money as well as offer a great convenience to bidders.
Whitetail Properties will continue to offer live auctions and sealed bid
auctions in addition to the new online only land auctions.
“The National Association of Realtors says 82% of people
begin their search for real estate online,” Jason Smith,
auctioneer and land specialist, says. “Many investors are far
removed from the Midwestern Farmland and timberland
they’re considering for investment.”
Dan Perez, real estate broker, says, “We have invested heavily
in not only television and print marketing, but also Internet
marketing to capture the attention of that 82%. The new
Internet bidding system makes it possible not only to find
farm real estate on the Internet but also buy it on the
Internet.”
Sellers that want to achieve full market value need to have their property
on a nationally marketed website like whitetailpropertiesauction.com to
make sure they are getting maximum exposure with these people.
Advantages to sellers:
• No contingency cash offers.
• Reduced costs compared to live auctions, sellers can save up to
50% on marketing/event fees.
• Auctions put no cap on price like a listing does.
• Auctions create spotlight attention for the property, unlike listings
that are all lumped together.
• Auctions leave the seller in control of all aspects of the sale,
including date, time and terms.
• Auction marketing is aggressive and saturates the market while a
listing slowly “drips” the marketing to the public.
• Auctions can sell property faster and eliminate long term holding
costs — no long delays sitting on the market.
Advantages to buyers:
• Convenient to bid from anywhere that has an Internet connection
24 hours a day.
• No wasted travel time and expenses for properties you may or may
not be able to buy.
• Ability to attend many more auctions virtually.
• Extended research time.
• Easy to use bidding system.
• Whitetail Properties serves many states eliminating the need to
establish relationships with multiple brokers.
• Site has extensive documents, mapping and videos to help buyers
become as familiar with the property and details as possible.
An online real estate auction is no different than the live auctions
Whitetail Properties is already conducting. Properties are marketed
exactly the same using all of Whitetail Properties’ powerful tools, but
rather than buyers and sellers coming together for a bidding session all
at one time, the bids are placed on the website over a period of time.
Buyers can still visit the property for a showing when it is convenient for
them. All properties are well documented with High Definition video and
professionally produced videos to give buyers a good feel for every nook
and cranny of the property.
How the site works:
A potential buyer creates an account at
www.whitetailpropertiesauction.com and is then required to submit
several screening documents to participate in a phone interview with the
auctioneer. Each buyer must provide proof of funds and evidence of
financial ability, agree to the site’s Terms and Conditions and satisfy the
auctioneer they are a sound bidder. Much like E-bay’s ranking system,
the auction site has built in checks and balances.
Each buyer will be given “Purchasing Power” that cannot be exceeded. A
buyer will be approved for the Purchasing Power they qualify for to keep
buyers from overbidding properties or from bidding on multiple
properties if the combined total is above their purchasing power. The
Internet auctions will run between 30 and 60 days depending on each
situation.
“We are excited about the powerful land sales tool we have
built,” Smith says. “Sellers can take advantage of Whitetail
Properties powerhouse land marketing system to find the
perfect buyer for their property without having to leave their
property on the market for a lengthy listing period.
Perez says, “The new system is especially good at handling
large farm multi-parcel auctions where a seller desires to
divide a large farm into smaller tracts to increase their return
on the property. It’s a very exciting development not only for
our company, but also for those using our real estate
marketing services”

Bulk Smokeless Gun Powder
Ballistic Solutions, Inc
Torrance, CA --(Ammoland.com)- Ballistic Solutions, Inc is having a
special offering for 50 caliber re-loaders and is offering smokeless
powder in bulk pallets at up to 60%+ off the average retail price for
comparable powders, IE Hodgdon H870.
The powder we have available was originally manufactured for
Winchester by St. Marks.
* WC 872 or WC 867 Powder (2 – 30lb bags per box) (36
boxes per pallet) total weight per pallet is 2,160 lbs
The powder was demilled by a military contractor, is palletted and ready
for shipping. It’s military surplus, pulled-down by automated machine
press with vacuum extraction. This is a critical process as there are no
contaminants and no moisture as is common with other pull-down
methods, so the powder does not need to be filtered.
These particular powders have multiple applications. The burn charts
show them to be ideal for 50 caliber reloading, as they are in the same
range as H860, H870, 5010 & 50 BMG (872 is replacing 5010 by many
reloaders.)
It can be loaded as small as 338. Other uses include: testing, explosives,
pyrotechnics, movie & TV special effects, etc.
Our price for the remaining powder is $2.00/lb. Minimum order is one
pallet. The powder is classified as 1.3 Hazard. The cost does not include
shipping. Shipping cost is estimated to be about $.25 a pound.

Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors
Wichita, KS --(Ammoland.com)- The Mule Deer Foundation hunting
and conservation membership organization today unveiled another
element in its new education initiative by teaming up with Pass It On –
Outdoor Mentors, a leading national mentoring organization.
Together, they intend to greatly increase the number of youngsters
pulling triggers safely at the range and on mentored hunts, according to
MDF CEO Miles Moretti.
He said, “This will help our chapters and volunteers reach
more of the right kids and channel them into proven
programs of our partners, including Big Brothers, Big Sisters,
Scouts, 4-H, Salvation Army Outdoors, FFA and others. And
it fits with our other partners, like the Youth Shooting Sports
Alliance.”
The Mule Deer Foundation’s relationship with Pass It On – Outdoor
Mentors compliments its new M.U.L.E.Y. program (Mindful,
Understanding, Legal and Ethical Youth), funded in part by
MidwayUSA, and designed to introduce youth to the shooting sports.
MDF COO Eric Tycksen, who oversees the initiative, said it is
one more way Mule Deer Foundation is promoting safe
hunting, shooting and conservation. He said the initiative
focuses on reaching youth who probably would not otherwise
be introduced to the shooting sports or contribute to wildlife
restoration.
“Our goal is to build an Outdoor Mentoring Alliance,
consisting of youth organizations, conservation organizations
and state fish and wildlife agencies,” said Michael
Christensen, President and CEO of Pass It On-Outdoor
Mentors. “We are proud to have the Mule Deer Foundation
join us in our efforts to focus on giving children who would be
the least likely to have the opportunity to go hunting and
fishing the chance to do that with a caring mentor who will
share their passion for the outdoors with that child.”
About the Mule Deer Foundation
With members in about 100 chapters nationwide, Mule Deer
Foundation’s mission is to enhance conservation of mule deer and black-
tailed deer and their habitat. For more information about the Mule Deer
Foundation, please visit www.muledeer.org.

Guns Save Lives BillboardTruck To Be In PittsburghAPR 26, 2011 11:07A.M.
CCRKBA ‘Guns Save Lives’ Billboard Truck To Be In
Pittsburgh
CCRKBA.org
BELLEVUE, WA – -(Ammoland.com)- The Citizens Committee for the
Right to Keep and Bear Arms mobile “Guns Save Lives” billboard truck is
visiting Pittsburgh, PA during the National Rifle Association’s annual
convention in that city.
The Guns Save Lives campaign is CCRKBA’s response to anti-gun Mayor
Michael Bloomberg and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, who have sent a
moving billboard truck around the country claiming that 34 Americans
are “murdered with guns every day.”
CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb said Bloomberg’s campaign “tells
less than half of a story, so we’re setting the record straight in the
Keystone State.”
“We’re answering Bloomberg’s flash with genuine substance,”
he explained. “We’re telling people what Bloomberg
isn’t telling them. Guns save between 800,000 and 2.5
million lives annually. That’s 2,100 to 6,800 people every day
who successfully use firearms to defend themselves, or
prevent a criminal attack. In the majority of those incidents,
no shots are fired, and nobody is injured or killed. In some
cases where shots are fired by armed citizens, several lives are
saved.”
CCRKBA has teamed up with the Second Amendment
Foundation, which is producing educational materials on
firearms rights, the number of lives saved and the Second
Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Last year, SAF won
a landmark Supreme Court victory in McDonald v. City of
Chicago, ending that city’s handgun ban.
“While Bloomberg is shooting blanks,” Gottlieb explained,
“CCRKBA is hitting the bull’s eye with information Americans
need to protect their civil rights. What better place to do that
than in Pittsburgh when tens of thousands of gun rights
activists will be in town?”
“Bloomberg’s campaign is a smokescreen,” he continued.
“America needs to look behind the facade to see that his
ultimate goal is to convince Congress to implement New
York-style gun control laws, ban most semiautomatic
firearms, stretch background checks out to between six and
nine months, and to put gun shows out of business.
“No mayor, regardless how wealthy he is, should dictate to
Congress, the citizens of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia or
anywhere else the terms of their civil rights,” Gottlieb said.
“Michael Bloomberg is spreading hysteria about gun rights.
We’re spreading the truth.”

NSSF Awards $480,552 to StateAgencies for Hunting ProjectsAPR 26, 2011 11:01A.M.
NSSF Awards $480,552 to State Agencies for Hunting Projects
Focus on research, e-marketing and developing lifelong hunters.
National Shooting Sports Foundation
NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- Nine state wildlife agencies
and one regional organization have been awarded $480,552 in grants by
the National Shooting Sports Foundation to fund programs that will
work to expand hunting opportunities for all ages.
Since NSSF began the Hunting Heritage Partnership grant program nine
years ago, more than $4.3 million has been provided via 109 grants to 38
state agencies and one regional agency covering all Western states.
“These grants support sorely needed programs that might
never have gotten off the ground because agencies are so
strapped for funding,” said Chris Dolnack, senior vice
president and chief marketing officer of NSSF, the trade
association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and
shooting sports industry.
“Hunting Heritage Partnership grants are making a
difference. After decades of decline, hunting license sales
have stabilized, and in 2009 thirty states reported increases
in license sales.”
Notable among this year’s awards are Kentucky earning its first grant
and Florida receiving funding for two projects. Three new grants will
have an effect on multiple states. The Western Association of Fish &
Wildlife Agencies received funding for a programs-evaluation project
that will benefit all states in its region. Two proposals–Virginia’s and
Georgia’s–will focus on research related to apprentice hunters that will
benefit five Southeastern states.
“We encouraged submission of these broader plans to
encourage states to work together on recruitment-and-
retention issues they are all dealing with,” said Melissa
Schilling, NSSF’s recruitment and retention manager. “We
have high hopes for this approach.”
NSSF developed the Hunting Heritage Partnership grant program to
respond to significant challenges that hunters face in an increasingly
urbanized and mobile society. Helping hunters locate land on which to
hunt and to easily access state hunting information plus encouraging
newcomers to get started and then continue hunting are issues state
agencies are grappling with nationwide.
This year’s 11 grant recipients are as follows:
• Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation
Commission–$46,560
• Project: The agency plans to evaluate its apprentice hunting license
program to identify trends and then use an integrated marketing
approach to motivate apprentices to complete a hunter-education
course and purchase a hunting license.
• Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation
Commission–$16,992
• Project: The agency plans to increase the amount of hunting
activity with current and lapsed hunters by using email, social
media and Internet-distributed public service announcements
promoting public lands and quota- hunt opportunities. The goal is
to reach more hunters with these less-expensive, new-media
strategies.
• Georgia Department of Natural Resources–$55,000
• Project: This multi-state project with Georgia, Alabama and
Kentucky will assess the best ways to encourage and assist hunter-
education graduates to become regular hunters and license
purchasers. The project will focus on using data combined with
hunter education surveys to develop “next step” guidance for
hunter-education graduates.
• Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife
Restoration–$75,000
• Project: A comprehensive advertising promotion to increase
hunting participation will focus on electronic outreach to males in
their 20s and 30s. A promotion related to apprentice-hunter
opportunities will include “next steps” to creating lifelong hunters.
In addition, the agency will launch an effort to expand partnerships
with shooting ranges.
• Maryland Department of Natural Resources–$39,000
• Project: Mentored youth hunts will be offered in each region of the
state to provide a positive hunting experience and allow youth to
interact with wildlife managers and conservation officers. The
importance of mentoring will be impressed on parents, relatives
and guardians. The goal is to increase the number of youth who
annually purchase a hunting license and to develop lifelong

hunters.
• Michigan Department of Natural Resources–$25,000
• Project: The agency’s Mi-Hunt public hunting interactive website
will be enhanced to deliver quality information on nine million
acres of land open to public hunting. Features include new data on
vegetation and game species and more detailed maps of habitat. At
the same time, the agency will advertise Mi-HUNT on social media
sites.
• Oklahoma Department of Wildlife
Conservation–$40,000
• Project: The agency plans to certify 4,000 to 5,000 students via
teacher-led, in-school hunter education courses and recruit up to
1,000 students to participate in hunting.
• Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife–$25,000
• Project: The agency plans to train adults from groups such as the
Boy Scouts, 4-H and Outdoor Schools to become certified hunter-
education instructors and incorporate hunter education into their
group’s activities.
• South Carolina Department of Natural
Resources–$38,000
• Project: The agency will utilize its email database to mount an
electronic media campaign to increase hunting license sales and
highlight regional hunting opportunities. The agency hopes to
reactivate lapsed hunters and encourage active license holders to
hunt more. Secondary efforts focus on recruiting new hunters
through Facebook.
• Virginia Department of Game & Inland
Fisheries–$75,000
• Project: This multiple-state project includes Virginia, Alabama,
Kentucky, Georgia and South Carolina and will use research to
determine apprentice hunting license holders’ motivations for
obtaining a first-time license, their expectations related to hunting
and their satisfaction with their hunting experiences. Such
information can be used to encourage apprentice license holders to
become regular hunters.
• Western Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies–$45,000
• Project: The purpose is to develop tools that state agency members
of this regional organization can use to evaluate recruitment-and-
retention programs so that project coordinators are provided
important feedback and assessments.
