Pro Gun Activists Outbid Police in Gun Buy Back
Activists to Counter APD “Guns for Groceries” by Offering Cash
Alternative and Encouraging Community Philanthropy.
Texans for Accountable Government
Austin, TX --(Ammoland.com)- This Saturday February 26th from
9AM to 1PM the Austin Police Department will be hosting their second
“Guns for Groceries” buyback program.
The goal of the program is to take guns off of the streets in exchange for
grocery gift cards.
In response to this event local Austin activists will be holding their own
“Guns for Cash” counter program. Activists will be at the Meadow
Baptist Church at 6905 South I-35 from 9AM to 1PM to offer those
trading in their working firearms a cash option instead.
Instead of destroying the firearms like APD plans to do, Austin activists
will be giving some of them to local Texans in need. Those receiving the
firearms will be asked to volunteer for community philanthropy projects
so we can make our city a more safe and enjoyable place to live.
We have already raised close to $2,000 and are looking for more funds
to compete with APD who will have $30,000 worth of grocery cards.
$110 will buy a working handgun or rifle, and $220 will buy a working
sporting rifle.

United States Army Marksmanship Unit
FORT BENNING, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- More than 300 Soldiers
from across the Army formation descended on Fort Benning March 19-
28 to take part in the 2011 U.S. Army Small Arms Championship, the
‘All-Army,’ the preeminent marksmanship training and competition
event the military has to offer.
Army Reservist Sgt. 1st Class Russell Moore, 91st Small Arms Readiness
Group, Camp Bullis, Texas, won the overall individual championship, his
third championship in a row. Winning the title is a significant
accomplishment but the ultimate goal of the event is to raise the overall
combat readiness of the Army.
“The All-Army Small Arms Championship not only provides
the training every Soldier needs to excel in marksmanship, it
also provides a means in which to test it among their peers as
well as some of the best shooters in the world,” said Moore.
“When we all signed up to be a Soldier we volunteered to take
on innumerable challenges and new experiences. The All-
Army should be one of those experiences for every Soldier.
Come out with a desire to learn and do your best and it will be
a great time.”
Hosted by the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, Soldiers competed in rifle,
pistol, and combined arms matches. The long-range championship was
held after the conclusion of the rifle/pistol week and competitors shot at
targets 800-1,000 yards downrange. The training and competition is like
no other Soldiers receive in the military, said Lt. Col. Daniel Hodne,
commander, USAMU.
“Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s words, ‘Upon the fields of
friendly strife are sewn the seeds that on other fields, on
other days, will bear the fruits of victory,’ put this one-of-a-
kind training event in the proper context,” Hodne said. “The
seeds have been sewn here at the All-Army; the responsibility
now lies with those Soldiers who took part, to incorporate
what they learned into the training of their units. Their
efforts will bear the fruits of victory in Afghanistan, Iraq, or
wherever the requirements of national security may take us.”
The field of Soldiers was the highest in 18 years. Superb weather
welcomed Soldiers from Alaska, Guam, South Dakota, Florida and
everywhere in between. While a number of wily All-Army veterans such
as Moore found their way back to Fort Benning, a large contingent of
first-timers embraced the challenges and uniqueness of the
championship.
“This is the best thing in the Army,” said Sgt. 1st Class Daniel
Byler, 1-335th Infantry Brigade, Division East-First Army,
Camp Atterbury, Ind. “Marksmanship is a perishable skill.
Soldiers should really make it a point to come here for this
event. It’s great.”
Byler came with seven others from his unit on their first trip to the All-
Army. They spent two weeks on Fort Benning late last year taking part in
a Close Quarters Squad Designated Marksman course conducted by the
USAMU. Between the advanced training they received at the course and
competing here all week, they are more confident than ever in their
marksmanship ability.
“I prefer service rifle but it’s cool to shoot some pistol, and
the run-and-gun stuff is an absolute blast,” said Byler, an 18-
year Army veteran. “You don’t get to do that anywhere in the
Army. We made a lot of good friends here and got a lot of
good pointers on shooting from guys who have been here
before. We’ll definitely be bringing the team back again next
year.”
Soldiers were split into four main categories: novice, open, pro and
cadet. Winners received plaques, coins, guns and had their names
permanently engraved on trophies. The overall high novice shooter for
the week was awarded a Secretary of the Army M1 Garand Trophy Rifle
and the top pistol shooter won a Secretary of the Army pistol built by the
gunsmiths of the USAMU Custom Firearms Shop.
Five Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadets earned scholarship money
provided by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. A new award was
added to the program this year-the Lt. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley award,
given to the cadet with the highest aggregate score of the two Excellence
in Competition matches. Cadet Matthew Ray of the U.S. Military
Academy earned the distinction as being the first cadet to earn the
trophy.
The Col. (Ret.) Ralph Puckett Excellence in Marksmanship award, given
to the Soldier in the novice class who achieved the highest aggregate
score of the two EIC matches, was won by Staff Sgt. Matthew Waechter,
132nd Fighter Wing, Iowa Air National Guard.

“The competition is designed to test the entire depth of a
Soldiers shooting ability,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Chris
Hardy, Maneuver Center of Excellence. “No matter where you
ended up, participation in this event makes the Army that
much stronger. For a competitive marksman, consistently
applying the fundamentals and achieving success on the
range translate to achieving success on anything that you do,
whether on the battlefield or other walks of life.”

Defensive Ammunition Check –It Might Save Your LifeMAR 29, 2011 06:50P.M.
Defensive Ammunition Check – It Might Save Your Life
Defensive Ammunition Check - It Might Save Your Life
SIG SAUER Academy
EPPING, NH --(Ammoland.com)- There is always talk, and always will
be, about what is the best duty or defensive ammunition out on the
market today.
We could spend hours, if not days, on what caliber is best and how it
should perform in a multitude of different scenarios.
What is usually not covered is how the ammunition will function in your
defensive firearm and how to inspect the ammunition that might save
your life.
After choosing the manufacturer, caliber, load type and bullet type, it is
important to inspect the ammunition.
1. Remove the plastic tray containing the ammunition from
the box and set the tray on a flat surface. Conduct a visual
inspection of each cartridge.
Here is an inspection list:
• Overall length of the cartridge… Are all of the cartridges
the same height?
• Condition and height of the primer… Do the primers
appear damaged or discolored? Are any of the primers
raised?
2. Remove each cartridge from the tray and inspect for the
following:
• Condition of the cartridge case… Are any of the cases
discolored, corroded or damaged?
• Condition of the bullet… Is the bullet properly seated in
the case? Is it tight inside the case? Is the bullet
deformed, inverted or is there any visible damage to the
jacket or core? Make sure that you always check the
depth of the bullet in the case.
3. With the pistol disassembled and the barrel out of the
weapon, drop each cartridge into the chamber, making sure
that it drops in easily and fully seats. Then invert the barrel
allowing the cartridge to drop from the chamber into the
hand. This proves proper fit of each cartridge into the
chamber of the pistol that it will be used in.
4. Understand continuous loading and unloading the same
cartridge into your firearm may cause the bullet to work loose
from or recess into the cartridge case. This may result in an
unintentional stoppage in the cycle of operation.
5. Lastly, test fire a sample of the selected defensive
ammunition in the firearm to confirm that it feeds, cambers

2011 Weaver Scope MountsDeliver Utility & Precision Madein the U.S.A.MAR 29, 2011 06:30P.M.
2011 Weaver Mounts Deliver Utility & Precision Made in the
U.S.A.
Weaver continues to celebrate over 80 years of excellence by announcing
performance-changing rings, bases and mounts for 2011. New top-
mount steel rings and bases provide shooters, hunters and
muzzleloaders with more precision mounting options and are made in
the U.S.A. Shooters can upgrade their rifle, shotgun or other firearm
setups to accept a Weaver scope or dot sight with new mounting options.
Weaver Optics
ONALASKA, Wis. --(Ammoland.com)- Weaver Optics introduces new
mounting systems for 2011. These mounts and base pairs feature gun
and caliber-specific engineering and are made in the U.S.A. Mounts are
precision machined and constructed using aircraft-grade aluminum for
absolute precision.
New rings, bases and mounting options are now available.
Built to Perform
Hunters go to great lengths in pursuit of their quarry. Weaver designed
these products to perform in all the elements. Construction using super-
light aircraft-grade aluminum achieves greater strength, positive weight
reduction and rugged performance. View Weaver’s new mounting
options online, at www.weaveroptics.com/rings_bases/.
Many Options for Improved Sights
New .22 see-thru Dovetail rings accommodate open sight or scoped
firearms to give shooters the ability to place shots with excellent
precision. And T-22 base pairs allow for a variety of scope mount
configurations, so hunters can have the ideal sight for any situation.
Ahead of the Action
Due to the mechanics and quick-operating nature of certain rifles, if
hunters want to mount a scope, it needs to be mounted upfront–forward
of action–and out of the way. Weaver designed new bases specifically for
three such rifles: Marlin models 1894, 1985 and 336. Each easy-to-install
base delivers legendary Weaver holding power and allows hunters to
increase their odds of success.
“These new mounts and bases from Weaver are built tough,”
said Brand Director Raluca Simian. “They’re proven to
perform, and we’re very proud to have moved our
manufacturing operations back to the U.S.A.”

and moved to the applicant’s next choice for all drawing passes.
Hunters are reminded, that while there are no pronghorn antelope
permit-tags allocated for Unit 19B, the unit remains open for all other
hunting seasons; however, access, and areas to hunt may be limited due
to the closure of the Chino Grande Ranch.

Hunting and angling are the cornerstones of the North American Model
of Wildlife Conservation. These activities continue to be the primary
source of funding for conservation efforts in North America. Through a
self-imposed excise tax on hunting, angling and shooting sports
equipment, hunters and anglers have generated more than $10 billion
toward wildlife conservation since 1939. The Arizona Game and Fish
Department does not receive any of the state’s general funds to operate.

Washington Conservation Projects Earn RMEF Funding
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
MISSOULA, Mont. --(Ammoland.com)- —Elk research at Mt. St.
Helens and habitat improvements on four national forests and other
public lands in Washington headline a slate of projects selected for 2011
grants from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
The new RMEF grants total $156,380 and affect Asotin, Cowlitz,
Columbia, Garfield, Jefferson, Kittitas, Lewis, Pend Oreille, Skamania,
and Stevens counties.
“Along with research on elk population densities and forage use at Mt.
St. Helens, we’re also funding habitat projects like prescribe burns, forest
thinning, weed treatments and guzzler installations. These projects could
add well over 25,000 acres to the 391,805 acres that we’ve already
helped to conserve or enhance for wildlife in Washington,” said David
Allen, RMEF president and CEO.
Nationally, RMEF hopes to impact about 100,000 acres in 2011 to reach
the 6 million-acre lifetime mark in lands conserved or enhanced for elk
and other wildlife.
Allen thanked RMEF volunteers and fundraiser attendees for building
the organization’s grant coffers, saying, “Because of their amazing
passion and generous support, a major conservation milestone is within
reach.”

Todd Vandermyde: Yep.
Cam Edwards: So, Todd, what’s your reaction to this?
Todd Vandermyde: Well, the Attorney General seems to
think that gun owners in Illinois are equivalent to sex
offenders and that our names are to be published out there
and to be vilified, scorned, or made targets of. I, you know,
really not sure what her thinking is, we’ve been unable to get
an answer out of her office, or the State Police have been
unable to get an answer as to why she wants to undo prior
precedent. But, the Tribune and the Associated Press have
put in Freedom of Information Act requests for the Firearm
Owner Identification Card List. She said parts of it have to be
turned over. So, we were anticipating this. And the State
Police were doing a yeoman’s job of holding off on moving
anything and fighting this every step of the way.
So, we’ve got bills in the hopper to undo this. And one of
them House Bill Seven, will be up for a hearing tomorrow
morning at 8:30 in the Judiciary Civil Committee. So …
Cam Edwards: Now was that planned or did this get
expedited as a result of the Attorney General’s statement
today?
Todd Vandermyde: No, we had had, when the State Police
came to us with their concerns about what was going on, I
asked them, I said, “Guys, how long can you drag this out?
Because if you can get us the session, I’ll have bills in the
hopper.” And so, we wrote the bills, filed, pre-filed them back
in December, and it just so happens that they were assigned
to committee a week ago and we’re going to move on this one
this week. It’s up for a hearing tomorrow and we’re going to
go after it. And we think we’ve got the votes to get it out of
committee.
The sponsor, Ron Stevens, called me a little while ago, said
he’d been calling Judiciary members, and their phones are
already starting to ring because of this. A lot of people, who
may be gun owners, who don’t think about their Second
Amendment rights every day, are really taking this to heart.
They don’t want their names published out there.
I mean, the argument is that you just handed out crooks a
target list of homes to case, and you’ve got a chance that
there’s going to be, you know, firearms, which are easily
fencible, highly prized by criminals, and places to go
burglarize. Or, conversely, you now have ideas where you
may not want to go burglarize, because you may run into an
armed homeowner.
Cam Edwards: Yeah, and that’s the thing. We pointed that
out. Not only does this hurt gun owners out there, but it hurts
non gun owners out there. It affects everybody.
Todd Vandermyde: It does. And so, when the reps that
I’ve talked to about this, they’ve inquired, and the AD’s office
being, or having unanswered so far, …
Cam Edwards: Mm-hm.
Todd Vandermyde: … maybe they’ll be in committee
tomorrow, and maybe they’ll have something answered. And,
if there answer is, “Well, we think that’s what the Freedom of
Information Act says,” we think they’re wrong because there’s
a clear exemption in there for personal information. And, I
think that there is the idea that they’re exercising a
fundamental Constitutional right, and the nature of the
property that you convey, that it is personal information.
So, we’ll see. But, we’re also hearing that the city of Chicago
has their gun bills in the same committee, and they’re going
to try to make a run at them tomorrow, as well. So, looks like
we’re going to have a busy morning tomorrow.
And then, we’re just going to keep plugging along, going
towards our right to carry hearing next week and IGOLD’s on
the 10th.
Cam Edwards: Yeah, and I got to tell you Todd, boy, if the
Illinois gun owners’ lobby day did not just gain new
importance here. I mean, what an opportunity for gun
owners around the state to show their support for each other
and show their support for pro-Second Amendment
legislation. It seems to me like they’ve got an excellent
opportunity to raise some eyebrows by getting a big turnout.
Todd Vandermyde: Well, and another rep told me that
people who aren’t gun owners, people who don’t look at the
fight the way we do, this just gets them at a level of privacy
and personal invasion that starts to get them to cock their
heads and think about things. And the AG may have done us
a favor here and kicked over a hornets’ nest that a lot of
people weren’t thinking about. If they can do this, what else
can they do?
Cam Edwards: Mm-hm.
Todd Vandermyde: So, yeah. I think IGOLD is timed right
this year. You were playing, last night, the mayor’s hissy fit
that he had.
Cam Edwards: [laughs] Yes.
Todd Vandermyde: You know, I mean, he’s really
becoming irrelevant. I think that question that they had up
there, “Why don’t you ask me a question about guns?”
Because the Supreme Court has made it kind of moot, Mr.
Mayor, and we hear your rantings every three to five months
about this stuff. I talked to somebody that was at that press

conference and said he eventually just turned his back and
walked away, wouldn’t talk to the press, because they
wouldn’t talk to him about what he wanted to talk about.
Cam Edwards: Yeah, I know. I loved that. Yeah. Well,
Todd, I mean things are certainly heating up. It’s not going to
be a quiet rest of the Session, I know that.
Todd Vandermyde: Oh, no, we are loaded for bear and the
best thing that gun owners can do is: One, start calling your
rep, start calling your senator. Tell them, “No to the Chicago
agenda. No to the Attorney General’s agenda. Yes to Right to
Carry and Otis MacDonald.” And just keep pounding that.
And we’re hoping that we’ll figure out what some movement
might look like in the Senate here pretty quick. And if not,
show up on Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day. Come down and
hold your rep accountable, hold your senator accountable. If
they happen to be Democrats and have been supporting the
anti-gun leadership, then it looks like it’s getting time to hold
them accountable for those decisions, as well.
Cam Edwards: All right. Mr. Vandermyde. sir, glad you
could join us tonight, and we’ll talk to you again soon.

Obama on Gun Control – Afraid to Step into the Cross Hairs
By Chuck Norris
AmmoLand Gun News
Dallas, TX - -(Ammoland.com)- Loyal readers will recall that I warned
last year of the perfect storm approaching on gun control.
Now, with the Tucson, Ariz., tragedy as a steppingstone and with eyes
firmly focused on his re-election, President Barack Obama has opened a
campaign to appease his base on the polarizing issue.
Let me completely disclose my position: I am a strong Second
Amendment advocate. I believe in protecting our fundamental rights,
including our Second Amendment rights, through the political process.
To that end, I serve as honorary chairman of the “Trigger The Vote” voter
registration campaign.
That campaign is funded by the National Rifle Association’s Freedom
Action Foundation. We work in every election cycle to register gun
owners and hunters to vote and add them to the ranks of millions of
grass-roots voters who have established Second Amendment issues as
the new “third rail” of American politics. Those voters and the newly
registered voters we can add to their ranks between now and November
2012 will have their job cut out for them in the next election cycle.
The 2012 election now looms large for this administration. Even while
the president’s top aides are deserting the White House to staff up his
campaign office, those left behind seem to be working from a mandate to
begin patrolling the divided Democratic base.
Up until now, the Obama White House had given a wide berth to the gun
control debate, abandoning campaign promises to pursue new
restrictions on our gun rights. This avoidance does not reflect any shift in
position; it is merely recognition of the political reality that most
members of his party have no interest in having yet another political
loser of an issue crammed down their throats.
At the same time, those in Obama’s liberal base have grown restless and
rancorous over his first two years in office because he hasn’t done
everything they’ve wanted, at least regarding more restrictions on our
Second Amendment rights. They resent the president’s avoidance of

20
fulfilling his campaign rhetoric.
Gun control groups have thrown tantrums for months that Obama
wouldn’t champion their agenda, with one group resentfully awarding
him an F.
So only now is Obama sticking his toes into the swirling
currents of the Second Amendment debate.
His campaign kicked off in the Arizona Daily Star, with a subtle op-ed
that was intentionally vague.
The words could be read as a broad endorsement of proposed gun
control measures; they also could be read as embracing the NRA mantra
that enforcement of current laws is what’s needed. But Obama’s attempt
to place himself at the center of an ideological divide over guns is pure
political positioning, and it comes with the rank odor of cold, crass
calculation. One can almost hear the tearing of another page from the
Clinton playbook.
One thing he definitely got wrong, however, was his arrogant statement
that he had “expanded” the rights of gun owners. The Bill of Rights is
guaranteed and can’t be “expanded” by government, as it contains
fundamental natural rights. Those rights can, however, be restricted by
illegitimate government fiat, which is why the clear language of the
Second Amendment prohibits even “infringement” upon it. But
infringement is clearly on the agenda, despite Obama’s rhetorical
vacillations.
Implementation of the goals set out in his article came via phone calls
from Justice Department operatives seeking to arrange a series of “active
listening” meetings for groups on both sides of the gun control debate, as
well as industry companies and groups. The proposed meetings were
intended to develop an agenda of new legislative and regulatory
proposals for the White House to embrace and push in Congress.
Let’s tally the results thus far.
First, my friends Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox at the NRA not only
declined the invitation but did so in the form of a strong letter that gave
lie to many of the article’s core assertions.
Second, gun control groups eagerly attended their meeting, reporting on
the process in glowing tones, which must have brought a rosy glow to the
White House operatives assigned to the realignment of the political base.
They continue their private muttering about a “lack of leadership” from
the White House.
Third, the media panned the Obama strategy and operation. The White
House must have been particularly stung by criticism from the editorial
board of the Arizona Daily Star itself.
The meetings with other groups will continue. You can bet that we
haven’t heard the last of this issue.
But so far, all that Obama has proved is this old political
adage: The only thing accomplished by sitting in the middle
of the road is that you can be hit from both sides.

Ontario Knife Company Rhoen Knife
Ontario Knife Company
Franklinville, NY --(Ammoland.com)- The Ontario Knife Company —
a leading provider of cutting-edge knives and high-performance
American-made cutlery for the U.S. military and Armed Forces since
WWI, has upgraded its offerings with the introduction of the Rhoen I,
Rhoen II and Keiler IV knives.
These will be displayed at the IWA & Outdoor Classics Show in
Nürnberg, Germany (Helmut Hofmann booth: Hall 4, 4-08, 4-10)
www.iwa.info/de/default.ashx.
Ontario Knife Company specifically teamed with Helmut Hofmann —
long-time international distributor of some of the largest brands in the
industry — and former military veteran Justin Gingrich to build these
innovative knives.
The Rhoen I measures 8.965 inches overall with 3.75 inches of cutting
edge. The canvas Micarta handle provides a sure grip in any weather
condition or circumstance, especially when outdoors, where rain, blood,
mud and sand can all become impediments to a secure grasp. The Rhoen
II is bigger and heavier than its little brother, boasting a full 10.5 inches
in length. Both Rhoen models are crafted with 154 CM steel blades, sport
a stealthy satin finish and are hardened to an ultra-desirable Rc 53-55
for easy sharpening in the field. The orange-and-green handles are
constructed using canvas Micarta and secured with nickel-silver rivets.
Setting apart these models from knives of the past are the glow inserts in
each handle, making it a snap to locate a misplaced or dropped knife in
the dark or when fishing through your pack. The Rhoen II was also
designed with a slot in the pommel, ideal for attaching a tether or for use
in lashing the knife to another object.
Fans of The Ontario Knife Company’s Afghan model are sure to become
quick devotees of the Keiler IV. The Keiler IV tapes out just under 10
inches and uses a nearly identical handle as the Rhoen models, including
the glow insert, but it follows a black-and-orange color scheme. The
Keiler IV is all business. When it comes to cutting, the Keiler IV offers
4.3 inches of finely sharpened 154CM steel with serrations on the
backbone, which allow your thumb a solid purchase during fine cutting
or skinning operations.
“These lightweight hunting blades look as good as they are
tough,” said Justin Gingrich, designer of the Ontario Knife
Ranger series. “Each one is crafted from high-end materials
ensuring incredible form and function in the field.”
