ANNUAL REPORT OF EIRC (2019-2020)

The Eastern India Regional Council (EIRC) of The Institute of Chartered

Accountants of India (ICAI) takes pleasure in presenting its Annual Report for the period from 1st April 2019 to 31st March 2020.

1] MEMBERS

The EIRC was privileged to serve 26124 members in the Eastern Region (as on

26th Feb, 2020).

2] ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS- 2019-20 (2nd year of 23rd EIRC)

At the fifth meeting of the 23rd EIRC of ICAI held on 18th February, 2020 the

following office-bearers were elected for the year 2020-21:

3] ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The 67th Annual General Meeting of the Eastern Region was duly held on Friday,

19th July 2019 at R Singhi Hall of ICAI Bhawan, 7 Russell Street, Kolkata-700071.

During the period from 1st April, 2019 to 31st March 2020 the 23rd EIRC met 4

times i.e. on 26th April 2019, 19th June 2019, 14th November 2019, 18th February 2020.

5] LECTURE MEETINGS, SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS & CONFERENCES ETC.

During the period from 1st April, 2019 to 31st March, 2020 EIRC of ICAI organised several Seminars, Workshops & Conferences to further the cause of professional and technical development of its members and students. These

learning initiatives included subjects and issues relating to the CA profession. The relevant information pertaining to the same were also disseminated to the

members and students from time to time and were also published in the monthly newsletters of EIRC. A summary of the month wise CPE Hours generated and the important programs organized is given in Annexure I.

6] SPECIAL EVENTS

a) 44th Regional Conference - EIRC

d) Independence Day Celebrations

Independence Day was celebrated by Hoisting of the National Flag at ICAI Bhawan, 7 Russell Street, Kolkata-700 071.

e) Republic Day Celebrations

Republic Day was celebrated by Hoisting of the National Flag at at ICAI Bhawan, 7 Russell Street, Kolkata-700 071.

f) S Vaidyanath Aiyar Memorial Lecture

EIRC organised S Vaidyanath Aiyar Memorial Lecture on 14th August 2019 at

EIRC Premises. The speaker was Mr. Lal Bhatia, Author of “Indicting Goliath” and CA A C Chakrabortti, Past President, ICAI.

EIRC organised its Two day 44th Regional Conference of EIRC in Kolkata on 20th

and 21st December 2019 at Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata. The

theme of the Conference was “CA – The Profession with a WOW”. The Chief

Guest was Dr. M S Sahoo, Chairperson, IBBI and Guest of Honour was Mr.

Sagar Daryani, Founder WOW Momo. The Conference was inaugurated in the

presence of Central Council and Regional Council Members from the Eastern

Region. The Conference hosted various topics on contemporary issues

deliberated by eminent speakers. Almost 2600 members & students and other

professionals participated in this mega 2 Day Conference.

b) All India / National Conference/ Regional (Two Days Events)

EIRC organized Two Day National Conference on 30th and 31st December 2019 under the aegis of Professional Development Committee of ICAI. The

Conference had speakers like CA Shubham Khaitan, CA Ankit Kanodia, CA Arup Dasgupta, CA Manoj Tiwari, CA Mayur Agarwal and CA Debayan Patra.

c) CA Day Celebrations

Chartered Accountants’ Day was celebrated on 1st July 2019. The following activities were performed:

i. Hoisting of ICAI Flag (ICAI Bhawan – Russell Street)

ii. Blood Donation Camp powered by Project Life Force and supported by

EICASA, B B D Bag CA Study Circle and Lions Club of Kolkata, Mother Teresa Sarani (ICAI Bhawan – Russell Street)

iii. Tree Plantation of 100 Saplings supported by VIP Road CA Study Circle

(ICAI Bhawan – Prantik Pally, Kasba)

iv. Awareness Programme on Organ Donation powered by SAKSHAM and

supported by Vitta Salahkar CA Study Circle of EIRC (ICAI Bhawan – Russell Street)

v. Swaach Bharat Abhiyan – a cleanliness drive, Go Green Drive.

g) World Yoga Day

World Yoga Day was organized on 21st June 2019. It was powered by Art of Living and supported by ACAE, B B D Bag, Central Kolkata, Views Exchange,

VIP Road & Vitta Salahkar being all Chartered Accountants Study Circle of EIRC.

h) EIRC Awards 2019

EIRC Awards distribution ceremony was organised on 18th February 2020 at EIRC Premises, 7 Russell Street, Kolkata – 700 071.

7] GREEN INITIATIVE

EIRC in its initiative to save the environment will not be circulating print copies of its Annual Reports and Accounts to its members but instead will make the

same available in its website (www.eirc-icai.org).

8] ENHANCING CAPACITY OF THE PROFESSION AND PR ACTIVITIES

Eastern India Regional Council has taken various steps for enhancing the capacity of the professional members. Besides its continuous learning

initiatives for members and students who attended the programs, the deliberations of speakers were also recorded and uploaded on the website of

EIRC for the benefit of members and students who could not attend the said programs.

The EIRC also submitted representations on involving of professional expertise of CAs for strengthening the State economy and facilitating better governance.

With this objective EIRC organized an Interactive Meet with Mr. Anurag Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Govt. of

India. The Hon’ble Minister visited the EIRC Premises at Russell Street and took part in an Interaction with the members and students.

9] ORAL CLASSES AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL

The EIRC organised Lecture Meetings, Mock Tests for CPT, IPCC and Final

Students. Crash Courses on Advanced Management Accounting, Information Technology, Strategic Management, and Audit were also organised at the

Branch level.

The details of the Awards Conferred by ICAI, Delhi to the Eastern Region for

the year 2019 is as follows:

Best Regional Council (2nd Prize) was awarded to EIRC for the year 2019. The Award was jointly won with SIRC.

Best Students’ Association (2nd Prize) was awarded to EICASA of EIRC for the

year 2019.

22] ACCOUNTS

The Annual Accounts of the Eastern India Regional Council for the year 2019-

20 ended on 31st March 2020 is appended to this Report as per Annexure VIII.

23] ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
