  • IntroductionA little over twenty-two years ago the author of this

    booklet was declared "incurable" of Bright's Diseaseby orthodox medical physicians.

    After four years of exacting study and dangerous ex-perimenting on his own bodyfor many times hebrought himself almost to the brink of deathhe dis-covered the following truth: Disease is Nature's effortto rid the body of disease matters and eliminate wastefrom the system.

    The Internal Uncleanliness of ManChronic constipation is the worst and most common

    crime against life and mankinda crime unconsciouslycommitted,and one whose full enormity is not yet fullyrealized. It stands accused of being one of the principalcausative factors of all physical and mental diseases. Iknow as a fact, from my practical experience withthousands of chronically diseased, that the life of man,and the extent of his mental and spiritual capabilities arelargely influenced by the condition of the alimentarytract. It is certainly very important that the brain andnerves of man are supplied with pure blood, and are notdependent on blood, polluted with impurities, arisingfrom an unclean alimentary canal. "Unclean" is toomild a word, when we are dealing with the worst kind ofa filthy condition.

    It is a fact that man, the product of the present"civilized" society of this much vaunted "advanced"twentieth century. is born unhealthy, because hismother, during pregnancy, is almost invariably suffer-ing from constipation. And I say further, that while inthis state, she usually eats two to three times as much asis necessary. This causes the so-called normal, more orless healthy man, to be somewhat encumbered frominfancy. And to a much greater extent, is theconstipated onewho is loaded with such a mass ofinternal filth, that it can only be called "indescribable."

  • His alimentary tract, reaching up from the mouth of theanus to his throat, is filled with a morbid mucusundi-gested, decayed and retained food-substances, all ofwhich are in a state of fermentation and putrefaction.His intestines have never had a perfect cleansing duringhis entire life. At the conclusion of each discharge, theanus must be artificially cleansed, which shows that theinternal walls of the intestines must also retain, aftereach passage, quantities of this same filth.

    A physician of Berlin, whose life work was theperforming of autopsies, stated that 60 per cent of allthe corpses contained in the alimentary canal variousforeign matterworms and putrefied fecesand hefurther stated that in nearly all cases the walls of theintestines and colon were lined with a crust of hardenedfeces, making it evident that these organs haddegenerated to a state of utter inefficiency. ProgressiveAmerican physicians are rapidly awakening to the factthat retained fecal matter is one of the chief causes ofdisease. Autopsies are constantly revealing indescri-bable filthy astounding conditions. One physicianpublishes the following:

    "I have found a prototype of the cause of all diseasesof the human body, the foundation of premature oldage and death. Surprising as it may seem, out of twohundred and eighty-four cases of autopsy held, buttwenty-eight colons were found to be free fromhardened feces and in a normal and healthy state. Theothers, as described above, were to a more or less extentincrusted with hardened, rotten, rejected food material.Many were distended to twice their natural sizethroughout their whole length with a small hole throughthe center and almost universally these last cases

  • mentioned had regular bowel evacuations daily. Someof them contained large worms from four to six inchesin length.

    "My experience from day to day developed startlingdiscoveries in the form of worms and nests of eggs, thatwe daily get from patients, accompanied by blood andpus. As I stood looking at the colon and reservoir ofdeath, I expressed myself in wonder that any one canlive a week, much less for years, with such a cesspool ofdeath and contagion always with him. The absorptionof the deadly poison back into the circulation cannothelp but cause all the contagious diseases. The recenttreatment of hemorrhage of the bowels in typhoid feverhas shown it to be caused by maggots and worms eatinginto the sensitive membrane and tapping a vein orartery. In fact, my experience during the past ten yearshas proven, by the rapid recovery of all diseases afterthe colon was cleansed, that in the colon itself lies thebasic cause of almost all human ailments."

    That this revolting and indescribable condition arisesfrom the almost universal ignorance of right selection offood, reveals why the "Mucusless Diet Healing System"is such an important discovery and development for theregeneration of mankind.

    On the outside, the man of today is carefullygroomed, perhaps unnecessarily and over carefullyclean; while inside he is dirtier than the dirtiestanimalwhose anus is as clean as its mouth, providedsaid animal has not been "domesticated" by "civilized"man.

    Long ago Naturopathy proved, that in every diseasethere is a constitutional encumbrance of foreign matter,

  • a clogging-up of the system. That statement of fact isnot sufficiently explicit. The encumbering matters,substances which would become dangerous if they wereforeign to the body, and of no use to the system, consistof masses df accumulated feces, undigested food,morbid mucus, and retained superfluous water, all in astate of fermentation and decomposition. Truly,chronically constipated man constantly carries in hisintestines a veritable cesspool, by which the bloodstream is continually polluted and poisoned, a factwhich only a skilled observer can at once detect by facialdiagnosis. Official medical science and the inexpertlayman do not suspect "constipation" when theindividual consumes from three to five meals a day,while he is having one so-called, good bowel movement.Man imagines that his "comfortable fatted" body is asign of health; at the same time he is as much in fear of acold wind and "germs" as he is of the devil. When sucha "well-fed" man who is usually constipated, takes afast or is put on a "mucus-less diet"as I have advisedhundreds as their last resorthe will discharge massesof putrescent filth, fetid urine loaded with mucus, salt,uric acid, fat, drugs, albumen and pus, according to hisdisease.

    The most surprising effect of these treatments is theimmense quantity of the discharged feces and the fetidexhalation from both the mouth and skin. But the mostimportant "discharge" is the elimination through thecirculation into the urine. The urine of everybody willthen show a sediment of mucus as soon as he fasts alittle or reduces the quantity of his food, or makes achange toward natural, mucusless foods. Doctors call it"disease" and it is in fact a self-cleansing process of thebody.

  • This self-elimination through the circulation is thebody's most wonderful healing work of every disease.To control this process by food and food quantities isthe only true, natural and most perfect therapeutic artof healing and is in no other "treatment" sosuccessfully accomplished as in the "Mucusless DietHealing System."

    This eliminationespecially that of the sick manafter a long period of misery, suffering and unsuccessfulmedical treatmentis man's "greatest event." He nowrealizes what he had never thought ofand what only afew physicians in the world have ever understood as Idid, through thousands of cases-7that mostly allcivilized men are walking, living cesspools, due tochronic constipation.

    All his former unsuccessful treatments now appear tohim in a tragic-comical light. He now knows exactlywhere the source of his suffering is to be found, nomatter what the name of the disease may be. He nowunderstands that he was wrongly and ignorantly treatedby the doctors who "suppressed the disease," withouteliminating the filth, which was retained in his entiresystem, especially in his alimentary canal, sincechildhood, and which condition constituted theprincipal causative factor of the disease.

    The Effect of LaxativesI believe that neither physicians nor laymen really

    know or understand how and why the body performsthe laxative effect of these different remedies. Officialmedical science knows very little about the "why" ofthe drugs. Their application is based upon theexperience only that each one has "a special effect."

  • All laxatives contain more or less poisons, that is,to enter the circulation in a concentrated form. Theprotective instinct of the body reacts instantly by agreater water supply into the stomach from the blood inorder to dissolve and weaken the dangerous substance;the intestines are stimulated for increased andquickened activity, and so the "solution" is discharged,only taking parts of the feces along. This is thephysiological explanation, and you can see that theeffect is an abnormal stimulation of vitality in general,and of the intestinal nerves in particular. It is an opensecret that all laxatives finally fail, because theconstantly overloaded intestines are being over-stimu-lated by the laxatives and thereby slowly paralyzed. Tocontinually increase the laxatives year after year, insteadof changing the diet, means SUICIDEslow, but sure.

    The Real and Deeper Causeof Constipation

    Constipation itself is a disease, and a really "severe"one, at that, because in severe cases it burdens thesystem with a heavy load of filth, sometimes weighing asmuch as ten pounds or more. Disease as such is anabnormal, unnatural condition; even "orthodox"physicians agree on that. We should expire slowly andpainlessly, when vitality is exhausted, had we not livedwith disease and suffering. That cases of "naturaldeath" are becoming more infrequent nowadays isfurther proof of the depths we have sunken into in the"swamps of civilization."

    Constipationthis most common diseasehas not

  • decreased or improved in spite of thousands of remediesfor sale on the market, and in spite of so-called medicalscience; simply, because the "diet of civilizatIon" isunnatural. The human intestines are not organized at allfor this unnatural food to either digest it perfectly, or toexpel the unused residue.

    Very little is known about foods that are constipating,and those of the opposite kind. What I wrote andproved in my book, "Rational Fasting and Regener-ation Diet," regarding the fundamental causativefactors of all diseases, constitutes the deepest insightknown into the nature of chronic constipation.

    Don't you know that bookbinder's paste is made offine white flour, rice or potatoes? That glue is madefrom flesh, gristle and bones? Don't you know howsticky these substances are? Don't you know thatskimmed milk, buttermilk and cream are the bestingredients to furnish sticky base for colors forpainting? That the white of eggs will stick paper orcloths so perfectly that it resists dissolution in water?Every housewife and cook knows how oils and fats stickto the sides of a pan. At least 90 per cent of the "diet ofcivilization" contains these sticky foods and man stuffshimself daily with awful mixtures of them. Thus thedigestive tract is not only clogged up throughconstipation, but literally glued together with stickymucus and feces.

    Herewith the "mystery" of chronic constipation isunveiled and the story told of the fundamental causativefactor of all diseases. Disease is but internal uncleanli-nessthis simply states a true but woeful fact. Fruits,green leaf and starchless vegetables do not contain thesepasty, gluey mucus substances and are natural

  • foodsyet little credit has been given them by doctorsor laymen. I will lift the veil and show why they fail tounderstand. Fruit acids and mineral-rich vegetablejuices dissolve the pasty mucus encumbrances. Fruitsugar causes and develops their fermentation and formsgases. This so greatly feared fermentation of the insidefilth is another necessary stirring up "process" toprepare them for elimination. Acid and fermentedstarch and glue lose their sticky ability as soon as theyferment. If an average meat eater or a child fed mostlyon starchy foods accidentally eats too freely of good,sweet fruits, a "revolution" in the alimentary canal,with diarrhea usually sets in, and fever is causedthrough the increased fermentation.In severe cases, if a doctor stops the diarrhea and

    feeds, as is usually the procedure, the patient dies,because Nature was kept from accomplishing thecleansing process. The partly dissolved poisons remainin the system, causing death.

    The patient literally suffocates in his own mire offilth, accumulated during his life from wrong foodmaterial and over-eating. If he does not die, his caseordinarily becomes chronic, which means: Nature iscontinually trying to expel poisonous mucus and gases,in spite of all obstructions and counteracting remedies.The constipation merely aggravates the process. Insteadof eating less, and then only loosening foods, thechronic patient stuffs himself more and more withwrong foods, becomes fatter every day and even takespleasure in his increased weight. In fact, thisover-weight, called health by the misguided ones, ismostly accumulated feceswaterand various kinds offilth. In most cases of tuberculosis, these conditions are

  • typical. Five to six meals a day and one bowelmovement or even lessno wonder he takes on weight,looks "full of vigor"but can never be cured,

    Nourishing and Curing LaxativesNo advance physician will deny the relation between

    any disease and constipation. But today people are faraway from Nature and the truth, and they are kept moreand more in darknesswhen taken sick they do just theopposite of what they should do. The slightestindisposition, a little headache or cold, which is theresult of insufficient bowel movement, is treated withmore, and so-called better eatingin spite of adecreased appetite. This is the main reason whyInfluenza, the "flu," became a fatal disease. Formerly"flu" was as easy to cure as the harmless "Grippe"aself-cleansing process of the body, mostly prevalent inspringtime. Knowing nothing of "scientific medicine,"germs, etc., the patient instinctively followed his lack ofappetite, took a mild laxative and very rapidlyrecovered; usually he felt much better after than beforethe "healing" disease. Today, he is falsely taught that agerm is responsibleand not his dangerous unhygienichabits. He eats too much, which is against the law ofNature, instead of fasting the way every ailing animalcures itself. But the amount of internal impurities andauto-toxins of man exceed those of any diseased animal.A long fast, therefore, would kill the majority of sickmen; however, they would not die by starvation, butwould become suffocated from their own poisonousfilth. As an authority in fasting I know full well the

  • reason why a fast is so feared by most people, and that ithas been misapplied by laymen. It is a crime to advise aconstipated patient to fast until his tongue is clean,before removing the "deposits of poisons" from hisintestines. I could only succeed in curing very old, severecases of chronic constipation by relatively long fasts.Man, in regard to health, is more degenerated than anykind of animal. He lost his reason, so to say, aboutmatters of which he thinks the animal has none at all.Yet! his intelligence places him far above the animal andenables him to assist Nature to overcome obstructionsand difficulties that could become dangerous. That isthe philosophical sense of the Art of Naturopathy.

    Therefore, if you want to cure chronic constipationperfectly and without any harm, you must change yourdiet, and instead of using foods which produce diseaseand constipation, eat really nourishing foods whichloosen up, dissolve and cure. But people are ignorantregarding this truth just as they are about fasting, andthey try to do things without previous experience orknowledge, and failure is ususally the result. What I call"Mucusless Diet" consists of fresh, ripe fruits andstarchless vegetables, for they are the ideal foods, andthe fundamental remedies for all diseases. Of course,the application must be intelligently advised by apractitioner graduated from my school of the MucuslessDiet Healing System, or a personal knowledge can bereceived through the study of my book, the "MucuslessDiet Healing System."

    It is an "eating-your-way-to-health" treatment, andconsequently the most reasonable method of curing,because wrong eating is the causative factor in alldiseases.

  • These mucusless, nourishing and "laxative," that isdissolving foods, form new blood; the best blood thathas ever run through your veinsand at once start theso-called constitutional cure of the body. The circula-tion of the new blood, permeating every part of thesystem, dissolves and eliminates the morbid mucus,which is clogging up the entire human organism; itespecially loosens the deep-seated impurities in theintestines and renovates the whole system. This, then isthe great enlightening factwhy constipation not onlycan be perfectly cured, but why the "Mucusless Diet"cures when all other treatments have failed.

    In severe cases of chronic constipation it is advisablein the beginning, to use as a help, a harmless laxative, toremove the solid obstructions of feces in the intestines;in other words, to eject the worst filth out of aclogged-up pipe system. Enemas consisting of clear,warm water are also a good help in the beginning.

    Among numerous laxatives on the market those ofbotanical origin are the least harmful. After many yearsof experience, I have prepared a "special mixture" ofthis kind. It has the advantage of removing the old,solid feces, obstructions and mucus, from the intestines,without causing the usual diarrhea and constipation asan after effect. It is to be used in the beginning only, asan aid, and will not have to be used continually. As soonas the intestines are cleansed from the retained massesof feces and other obstructions and the mucusless ormucus-lean diet is taken up, you will realize the truth ofthe previously stated facts. You will then perceive withboth your eyes and with your nose that I have notexaggerated. And you will become convinced that thestate of obstruction was not only localized in your

  • intestines, but that all passages of your entire systemwere obstructed and constipated with mucus, from yourhead to your toes.

    You wilt then experience the formerly unbelievablefactthat any kind of diseaseeven those consideredincurable by all doctorsunder my treatment soonbegin to improve and are finally cured, if a cure is at allpossible, simply because the source of poisoning of thesystemthe chronic constipationis eliminated. Thenthe new blood, derived from natural food, circulates"unpoisoned" through the entire system and dissolvesand eliminates every local symptom, even in the mostdeep-seated cases; and it removes the impurities of theentire system, which were mainly supplied from thedeposits of poisons and morbid mucus in the intestines,which condition is called Chronic Constipation.

    Conclusion"Life is a tragedy of nutrition" is a statement I made

    many years ago. Everyone knows we dig our graves withour teeth, but the saddest of all is the present-daysuperstition of 99 per cent of the peoplethe mosthighly educated and the ignorantthe healthy as well assickthe rich and the poorthat we must eat moreconcentrated food when weak or sick. Concentratedfood, high protein and starchy foods are the mostconstipating which, as shown in this booklet, accumu-late in the form of waste in the alimentary canal. Theso-called "good stool" daily is in reality constipationand you may now see that constipation is the mainsource of every disease and that the average personsuffering from constipation can only be healed perfectly

  • by a diet, free from STICKYGLUEYPASTYproperties and that is a MUCUSLESS DIET.

    You may improve your elimination temporarilythrough laxative remediesspecial physical exer-cisesvibration, massages and various other methods,but you cannot clean out the old obstructions from thealimentary canal and regenerate and cleanse the wholesystem as long as you eat the same mucus andtoxic-forming foods which have caused and continuecausing your constipation and all other ailments of thehuman body.

  • Overcoming ConstipationNaturally

    Neither time nor money has been spared by the besttalents known to the Medical profession in an attemptto unravel the mystery of constipation, its causes andcure. No drug has as yet been compounded capable ofpermanently overcoming intestinal stasis. The problemof constipation remains a "problem" after thousandsof years!

    Arnold Ehret in his book "Mucusless Diet HealingSystem" describes it "Constipation results from acongestion of the capillary circulation brought aboutthrough excessive mucus and impurities (foreign wastematter) clogging up the blood stream and tissue system,to the extent that circulation is impeded causinginability to discharge the natural flow of fecal matternormally." In other words, loss of proper peristalticmovement of the intestines causes failure of the bowelsto evacuate the un-wanted waste fecal matter normally.

    It would almost appear repetitive to further describejust what constipation isor how in so many differentways it can harmfully affect the human body, but onlythrough constant reiteration will full enlightenmentbring the necessary knowledge of this most importantsubject. The various painful afflictions resulting fromconstipation have been given many "scientific names"descriptive of the actual organ or particular part of thebody affected. Constipation is a blocking-up of thehuman "sewerage system" and makes of man a"walking cesspool!" Can you think of anything morerepulsive than forced retention within the body of

  • putrid, decaying, germ-laden "sewerage?" Would youwillingly reside beside an open cesspool? Most certainlyNOT! And yet this is exactly what the constipatedindividual is doing. We use perfumed soaps tocounteract body odors and resort to a "mouth-wash" to"kill" bad breath. Just so long as the type of food youeats starts decaying and putrefying if allowed to remainimpacted between the teeth, then "Brush your teethafter every meal" is a must. It seems unbelievable thatwe persist in eating these very foods in the unmistakablyfalse belief that they are essential to life! What furtherproof is needed that they are the direct cause of ourailments!

    Within this wonderful body of ours is contained anatural, miraculous ability to overcome intestinalsluggishness and the many other various ailments towhich man is prey. All that is necessary on your part isto provide the proper kind of food Nature demands torestore normal bowel activity. The method of correctionis extremely simple, but neglect through ignorance orotherwise, to heed Nature's warning will eventuallyresult in a complete "breakdown." There can be nocompromise; you have violated Nature's laws and a pleaof "innocent" is unacceptable; you must now pay thepenalty. Either prompt removal of all "surplusgarbage" or else! The bowels are overloaded, and this"blockage" cannot be tolerated. The necessary vitalityneeded to carry on, is lacking.

    A complete cessation of the causes is the only possiblehope. Stimulating bowel action through use of violentpurgatives is equal to attempting to spur on an alreadyexhausted horse to further effort! Only throughcomplete cooperation can you hope for a "pardon."

    There is only one disease, although its manifestationsare various, and there is but one cause, and that isretention of waste matters.

Your acquired"taste-buds" will soon be replaced with natural desiresand you will soon find yourself enjoying pleasure ineating as formerly. Social activities might change butnew friends will be found to take the place of those whomight misunderstand. Your desire to remain young,energetic and vivaciously healthy must prevail. Whenthis takes place vital forces are restored to a normalbalance and mental and physical alertness returns.Every mouthful of food is delicious to the taste, and lifetakes on an entirely new meaning of joyful activity.Physical Exercises

    Strengthening your flaccid abdominal muscles is mostimportant since proper bowel function requires strongabdominal muscular ability. Use of the "slantingboard" is particularly helpful in building abdominalmuscular strength without overtaxing your strength. Lieflat on your back and with hands clasped behind thehead try and bring the body to a sitting position. Youmay at first find it necessary to have your legs and feet

Avoid eating be-tween meals.

    2)Avoid drinking any liquids with meals. Thisincludes water, tea, milk, coffee, fruit juices and evensoups. Wait at least fifteen minutes after drinkingbefore you start eating solid foods. And wait at least thesame length of time after eating solids before you drinkliquids. Liquids interfere with digestion of your foodwhen taken together.

    3)Avoid all harsh condiments and spices. Thisincludes salt, pepper, mustard, catsup, vinegar, pickles,etc. They may stimulate jaded appetites but digestion isretarded.

    4)Avoid using butter, margarine and most cookingoils. Use pure olive oil where necessary to preventsticking to baking dish. Starchy vegetables should beboiled until soft enough to insert fork easily, then bakedfor a least thirty minutes or until thoroughlydextrinized. You will find that the flavor has beenincreased through baking and the food becomes moreeasily digestible.

    5)Avoid all denatured and over-processed foodssuch as white flour and ready to use cake mixes.Prepared frozen dinners should also be avoided.All nourishing content has been dissipated through theprocessor's use of food preservatives and chemicaladditives. A more nutritional meal would consist of asalad of fresh greens, cottage-cheese, tomatoes and one

    6)Avoid constipating foods such as mashedpotatoes with gravy, hot buns, cakes and pastries andcereals of all kinds and dairy productseggs, milk,cheese and butter. They are constipating and form toxicwaste poisons in the body.

Prune juice is always available and is an excellent"laxative" and fresh coconut juice can be mixed withfresh (not canned) carrot juice for a delicious tasty drinkwith laxative qualities. Both the fresh orange andgrapefruit juice have definite cleansing ability. Remain-ing on a fruit and vegetable juice diet for three to fivedays is not difficult, since there is no limitation to thequantity you may drink. Drink as much pure water asyou care to, and by adding a few drops of fresh lemonjuice to each glassful of distilled water the lost mineralsare replaced. This could be considered a Fast since nosolid foods are eaten. When completing the experimentmake sure that the first meal is a "laxative" one.
